View Full Version : My relationship with Kahr so far

I bought it new about 6 months ago. Generally I'm liking it quite a bit, with a few exceptions. Out of the box, one of the rear night sights lights was out, so I sent it back for repair/replacement which they did fairly quickly. A few hundred rounds into it it was rarely (maybe one in twenty mags) holding the slide open on last round, as well as a half dozen FTE, so I sent it back again. They said the fitted this and adjusted that, and passed their 3 mag test afterwards. A half dozen mags by me had no FTE, but still no slide hold either. After reading threads about the later I'm gonna try a heavier mag spring and watch my thumb placement better.

After reading threads about "problem serial number/batches" for this model I began wondering, just when was my P380 built? I sent an email to Kahr asking just that, telling them my model and serial number. I also read somewhere that Kahr isn't to keen on email communications, so I called them directly and asked the same question, to which they gave me a date of 1/2/23 that it was manufactured. Then about a week later they replied to my email and said 11/17/22 was the born on date. I'm tempted to call and ask them again, and see if they give me a third different date, only to confirm that they're just BSing anyone that question.... WTH?

So yea, at this point in time I'm not getting the warm fuzzies about the company. I still think that they make a quality product, but starting to have reservations.

If you think the slide hold open issue is operator error, have someone else shoot it and see if that makes a difference. If it happens to everyone, send it back again. As I get older and weaker, the fact that I don't have to wrestle that slide open myself becomes more important to me.

Well I don't necessarily think it's operator error, but I'm open to considering that possibility. In threads talking about it not holding open, this was an often assumed or determined cause, so who knows. Lord knows I'll be watching my thumb and if too close to the slide release button next session- probably tomorrow.
Regarding the serial number and born on date, we'll see too when I check in again. I'd like to think it was an error by one individual or another...
And thanks for the input Slowburn- always nice to hear another perspective.

Do you have the same problem with all of the mags? It could be the lip of the follower that pushes the lever up to engauge the slide.

I'd be looking at this. A small adjustment might cure it. Be careful as the screw is into plastic. Easy to strip.
