Hey guys,

New Kahr owner here, with a new in box CW9 that has about 150 rounds through it. It has worked extremely well for me so far, except for two things:

when loaded 7+1, it will release the magazine 1/2" unexpectedly. I have tested this over and over, and I am convinced I am not hitting the mag release. This is a real issue for me in a carry weapon, and I am hoping it can be quickly resolved.
When I do release my magazine intentionally to reload, it does not drop free. I really would like the mags to drop free. Hoping there is a quick fix for this they can apply too.

Other than that, the pistol shoots great, no FTF or FTE issues with 150+ rounds of Federal 115gr through it.

I talked to Ian at Kahr about this, he recommends sending the pistol up to them. What is Kahr's track record making repairs like this? Can I be pretty confident when it comes back, my problems will be resolved? How fast is their turnaround?

I was thinking I might have them put on a set of Trijicon night sights while it is there, and save me the expense of sending the slide up alone on another trip. Just hoping that I don't discover other problems upon getting it back.

Thanks, appreciate any thoughts, feedback or advice.

I had a p9 with the same magazine issue. I would fire 2 rounds and it would drop halfway out. I had over 500 rounds through it and it didn't happen during the break in period it just sort of developed. I sent in the p9 and they replaced the magazine release along with changing the slide and trigger from stainless to black and I had it back in about 10 days. Jay is a friendly knowledgable person to speak with there. I have not had any magazine issues in 2 range trips since but they definitely don't just drop out I have to tug to extract them, which isn't perfect but it's better than falling out prematurely.

Have them put the sights in while it's there-you'll love them and they're awesome!

I hope you have them sending FedEx to pick it up. You should not pay for shipping on warranty work. Request it. It's a new weapon and needs repair because it's not reliable for defensive use..

Yes. They offered to email me a prepaid FedEx shipping label and I took them up on that.

It seems like they don't always offer it, but they should pay for warranty work. It's expensive for the required methods of shipping firearms.
I hate to see money wasted and the last time, I sent my P380 back along with my PM45 for its 4th return to the mothership.

I have a P9 and it or I dropped the mag twice at the 150 round mark. I called Kahr on Wed. and spoke to Jay, he told me to try a different mag. I shoot again today ( 100 rounds ) using the same mag and didn't have it drop out any today. I don't fell confident carrying it now. Do they make a mag release that doesn't protrude as far? If it's me I don't trust that I will not hit the mag release again in a stressful moment.

sounds to me like it is your grip position that might be causing it. You might be hitting the mag release. You can file it down if you feel the need to do so and at the worst you wll only ruin the mag release which is a 5 minute replacement, or change your grip position. More than likely you mag release might have had a slight burr on it and that is why it caused the couple of releases. When kahr states a 200 rounds breakin, actually it is to let all metal surfaces mate properly and that even goes with the magazines and the mag release working themselves in properly.

99.995% of all kahr shooters have no issues with the mag release button, so if your accidentley hitting it with your thumb , then change position but my guess is that the gun is now starting to shoot itself in properly. I would not loose confidence in it for what you stated doing only twice. Course that is your call to make, not mine.

I agree. I would try having someone else shoot the gun and see if they have the issue. If two people dont have the same issue, its shooter error. If you find it is your hand hitting the mag release you could try a aftermarket grip to add some bulk. My friend had the same issue with his kahr CW9, after I tried it and didnt have an issue he got an aftermarket grip which took care of it.

I had the same issue the other day when shooting. I crossed the 200 round mark and think I was hitting the mag release. I had a fail to feed, slide jammed open. I found that the mag had dropped just a fraction. I locked back the slide and dropped the mag. fully inserted it again and I didn't have the problem again. I also noticed that when holding a full 7 rounds that I do have to tap the bottom of the mag firmly to make sure that it seats properly and is just not held in place by friction.

I've also had the same thing happen with a pocket pistol.

Hope it all works out for you.

Got my CW9 back from Kahr yesterday.

From the work summary, it looks like they replaced the mag catch, polished the feed ramp and polished the frame (mag well?).

It now drops the magazine free when I want it to.

I will have to get it out to the range and see if it still drops the magazine when I don't want it to, i.e. after the first shot when loaded 7+1.

Oh, and I had them install the Trijicon night sights while it was there. That saves me the cost of sending the slide up separately in the future. Looks sweet and I like the three dot sight picture.

Keeping my fingers crossed it all works properly now, cause I do really like the CW9.

My fingers are crosses as well but I'm optomistic it'll work just fine for ya now. Good move on the night sights too.

Took the CW9 to the range last night. Good news! I confirmed that Kahr did indeed take care of all my issues with the CW9. Mags drop free when I want it to, and they do not pop out after the first shot when loaded 7+1 anymore. Sweet!

Next, I want to purchase some spare mags. My thought is the extended K920G magazine. I was planning to carry the factory 7 shot mag in the pistol for minimal profile, with at least one 8 shot K920G mag as a spare. Any thoughts or advice on that, feel free!
