View Full Version : P380 reassembly issue

I got a new to me P380, and after field stripping it, I ran into an issue during reassembly. When putting the slide back on, the rear of the slide contacts the disconnector, and stops. On my other Kahrs (currently a CW9 and CW45) the slide easily rides over the disconnector.
If I try to push the slide past, the disconnector gets pushed to the outside of the slide. I had to use a piece of plastic to push the disconnector down to get the slide to ride over it.
Has anyone had this issue? Any ideas on how to fix it?

I just work the trigger a bit as the back of the slide approaches that half-moon part of the trigger bar... never had a problem. Sometimes the slide just goes all the way with no problem and other times I can pull the trigger just a little bit or until the slide slips over that thing. On some occasions, I have to pull the trigger all the way and then start to pull it again while pulling the slide to the rear... just keeping backward pressure on the slide until it moves.
I always watch that thing to make sure it drops and doesn't pop outside the slide... not good. If that's a consistent problem, your side plate may need replacing... which seems to be the Kahr Customer Service cure.

I've not had that issue with my P380 and I don't work the trigger when assembling.
I'd send it back.

I have the same issue on occasion, just be mindful of how you're pushing the slide on, any sideways force can cause it to do that. If I'm careful and push straight back it normally doesn't do it.

mine does that too, the first time I put the pistol back together it freaked me out.
My proedure for putting on the slide is to slide the slide untill it contacts the circular tab, pull the triger in and out (i dont pull it all the way) while pushing lightly on the slide. eventual it will all fall in to place.

Mighty helpful group we have here. Hope these great replies help your situation out Phred - if not, make sure to holler and more help will be on its way.
I'm going to disagree with some of the statements here. Page 21 of the Kahr P380 manuals states the re-assembly procedure and it doesn't require any manipulation of the trigger.
http://kahr.com/DL/kahrmanual.pdf
It also specifically states on Page 22,
"If the slide will not go smoothly onto the frame, do not force it as this could cause damage and may void the warranty".
Now you can do whatever you wish, but I would send it back.

Yeah, mine does that too-the only way I can get it back together is to push down on the disconnector to get the slide to clear. The side plate doesn't seem to sit as "tight' as it does on my two other Kahrs. Guess I need to send it back to the mother ship.

This has also come up before and several people were told by the techs at Kahr to manipulate the trigger just a bit. They said they were going to change the manual as they found that information was not correct. As I recall some of the manuals specifically stated not to touch the trigger when reinstalling the slide. Mine sometimes go back together real nice and now and then I figure I'm gonna have to send Kahr a bag of parts. I always get it, things just have to be right.

Yes and they still say that.
A little trigger manipulation shouldn't hurt, but if you have to do to get it assembled, I feel something is probably amiss, especially if it get pushed outside the slide.

Personal experience of mine is Bawanna is correct. I think I was one of the posters way back when that raised the question. I was told by the group to manipulate the trigger and then told the same by Kahr. This has worked and I have had zero issues. All I do is pull the trigger as the rear, right corner of the slide comes in contact with the upper/exposed portion of the trigger bar that is right above the top of the slide panel.
