View Full Version : PM9 periodic feeding issues

I have been lurking here for a while and wanted to thank everyone for all the good information. I recently purchased a Kahr PM9 through Kahr's very gracious instructor discount program. Although I carry Glocks on and off duty primarily, I wanted something a little smaller than the Glock 27 occasionally for off duty use. After shooting about 600 rounds I am very pleased with the PM9 and am confident it is reliable. I did have some occasional failures to feed after the recommended 200 round break in period when using the larger 8 round magazines that I ordered for range use. After some emails back and forth with a gunsmith at Kahr I was told the 8 round magazines are not made for the PM9 and they could not be exchanged for the smaller magazines. The website does say the 8 round mags fit the PM9 so I was a little surprised by this He did offer to have me send the weapon back but I am reluctant to do this since the problem is only with the larger mags. I had several other instructors shoot the weapon and every 4-6 mags would result in a round failing to feed since it was nose down on the feed ramp. Just wanting some feedback on this. Its not a big problem since the 6 and 7 round mags are functioning without any issues.

screw those 8 round magazines. They will fit in the PM9 but doesn't mean they will work. alot hanging out the bottom of that grip and I do think it will give issues as u suggested. Guys even swear at the 7 round mag that comes witht he Pm9. They seem to sometimes give issues. the flush fits work great. I guess my feelings is that you bought a small ass gun, so why stick a long magazine in it, even for range use, as u know to that those long magazines when they work will give u a better grip position that hte 6 round flush fit.

I would not send it back but I would return the 8 round magazine and get some 6 round flush fits and stick with it. If your 7 rounder is doing Ok then screw that 8 rounder, let kahr have it back. I have never had one issue with my 7 rounder in my PM9 but I truly hate that magazine. butt ugly at best so there fore it is never used. I would trade it in a heart beat to anyone for a flush fit 6 rounder. hint, hint, hint.

PS. no need to lurk here either, we don't bit, we do try to help and some guys here really do know their sh-t. Like our Master Bawanna He is the grand poo-bah so to speak..

Don't lay that pooh bay master title on this ole dog. I'm just trying to learn new tricks. That was an always will be your title along with the target on your back that goes with it.
I hang hang out here for theraputical stress relief. I enjoy reading about Wynn going after stuff with his Dremel Like Tool, and Dietrich do the greased prison fence shuttle.
Dang I love this place.

grand poo-WHAT? Does Bawanna having 1,000 more posts than Jocko qualify for "Grand-Poo-Bah"?

jocko, thanks for the reply. Since they told me they will not exchange the 8 round mags for smaller capacity mags, I will see if I can return them

Not sure about that but it sure qualifies me for spending way too much time here and not having a life. Maybe this is my life?

Well I am a little surprised and disappointed. I was told by Kahr I cannot exchange the 8 round mags for 6 or 7 round mags. And I was told I would be charged a 25% restocking fee to return the 8 round mags which do do function correctly in my weapon. After emailing the L.E. sales rep and the gunsmith they will not budge on this.

That should say the 8 round mags that do NOT function correctly?

I can't believe even the LE rep didn't go to bat for you on this one. If they don't work they should exchange. Several here have done it before. Some even swapped the larger capacity for shorter ones that work best.

You've been on the phone as well? Maybe our man Ian. Wynn knows him intimately with all his recent issues, or perhaps Jocko.

This ain't right.

+1

I have six 6 round mags and they all work perfectly. The one 7 rounder that came with my PM9 is the only one that gives me problems. It occasionally fails to lock back after the last round and will also cause rounds to nosedive HARD completely under the feed ramp.

I suspect this might be because of the longer grip. There is a small amount of fore/aft play when the 7 rounder is inserted. When you grip the mag as part of the grip, you put reward "pinky" pressure on that bottom part, which causes it to tilt forward at the top. I'm convinced this is definitely an issue contributing to my nosedives, but I haven't taken the time to verify this with extensive "pinky extended ala British tea drinkers" shooting.

From past exerienece and googling the internets, service@kahr.com has always worked for me.

Guys even swear at the 7 round mag

Yep. The problems I have had recently (nose dive and slide locking back on a loaded mag) was from the 7 rd.

Seahawk60 thanks for the suggestion. I have already tried that. I was hoping to plead my case one last time by phone with someone at Kahr and wanted a name of someone at Kahr that someone here had dealt with and had favorable results.

My opinion, if you truly feel you need the 7 runder to function perfectly, then indeed get with kahr, if you feel u just want it to work perfectly because it came with the gun but have no real intentions of carying it, then I would just pass on it I do think seahawk had a point about the pressure being somewhat awkward on the 7 round magazines where as the 6 round flush fits does not get that pressure, and no doubt we all do put different pressures on that extended magazien, there fore, some have no issues and some have some.

I have no use for my 7 rounder, it works but I never use it, my spare back up is a 6 rounder for I totally trust the 6 rounders....

this is just my opinion and as you know Juan Williams gave his the other day on TV and got fired for it.

Agreed. I am ready to count it as another lesson learned and drive on.

Wouldn't the new Ian be a good guy to call on this. I'd just like to see terrymo get a magazine that works, a flush 6 rounder that works beats a 7 that don't.
I can't remember the spelling of the new Ian and I don't have his direct email but somebody here had it awhile back.
Maybe just call Kahr and ask for Ian, see how it goes. Nothing to lose and only a tiny bit to gain, but worth a shot.

No problemo...

I just mentioned service@kahr.com first because that's what I've always used in the past. My question/problem gets forwarded to someone else from there and several different people have helped me in the past. Jay was the last one and I just happened to still have an email from him.

I'm surprised the generic "service" email didn't work for you. I've always received prompt service using it first.
