I am new to Kahr talks please bear with me if this question has been dealt with ad naseaum. I live in northern ca and am picking up my ccw soon. I am looking at Kahr as I am quite impressed with those that I have seen. I am looking at the 9mm series so that I only have to squirrel away one caliber. I am leaning towards the p9 for it's weight but I would like to get a feel on the general opinions floating around about the different pistols. P9, cw9, t9! Thanks T3

Welcome. Before we get to the gist of your question and I'm sure we'll get some super good stuff for you to think about I just gotta ask.
Just how big an ole boy are you?

Well assuming you are somewhere between 3 feet and 7 feet tall, you can conceal carry anything Kahr makes. It all depends on what you feel comfortable carrying. I'm partial to my K9 for IWB in a silent thunder holster. If you want a little less weight then the P9 would be good too. If you want to carry in your pocket, any of the PM series 9mm would work. Assuming pocket size limitations won't eliminate the PM45, lots of people here pocket carry that also. BTW, welcome to Kahrtalk.

The P9 and CW9 are basically the same gun. Personally, I prefer the P9 over the CW9 because of the polygonal barrel, the available black slide and choice in Night Sights. The CW line lack these features. If those factors aren't important to you, then the CW9 will do.

The T9, and it's polymer brother TP9, are also excellent choices provided you don't mind the extra size or weight. A large person may prefer the larger grip of these pistols. Holsters are a little harder to find for these guns. One drawback of the T9 is the lack of grip choices for this model. The TP9 has become one of my favorites. If it came in black, I'd probably carry it instead of the P9.

The CW9 and P 9 are both good pistols and essentially the same gun. The CW just doesn't have all the fancy frills for $200.00 less money. The rifled barrel vs the polygonal barrel won't make any difference at normal defense distances. You or the unwilling recipient won't know the difference. You can also shoot lead bullets in the CW. The frames on both pistols are the same and the slide differences are mostly cosmetic. Get a CW and a set of sights from Dawson Precision and you are still less money than a P series gun. As with any Kahr, keep it lubed and do the 200 round breakin.

Thanks for the responses, to start off with I'm 6'6" and 200 lbs, I live in northern ca and the bay area. I generally wear shorts and light shirts nothing too tight. My leaning towards the p9 is for the weight. I was thinking about durability of the polymer frame but in retrospect, we are not really talking about new technology here now are we. I also tend to prefer the p9 over the cw9 as the with respect to the aftermarket sights there is more to choose from. And as I have both a glock 27 and a hk p7 both having polygonal barrels, I like the technology.

I love my CW, it was in my price range. So that is what I went with. I used to carry an all steel comact that was the same size, but it weighed so much more. I now carry all of the time, because it is much easier to do.

I just picked up a CW 9 on last Wednesday, looked at all the stickies, joined the forum, asked questions, racked the slide at least 500 times (lost count after 400), cleaned on Friday, shot 200 trouble free rounds on Saturday, cleaned on Sunday and its riding IWB at the present time. (It will fit in my jeans and cargo pants pockets - better in the cargo pants [shorts])

This is my first Kahr but not my first DA pistol. I went with the CW 9 as I reload and wanted the "regular" barrel so that I could shoot my reloads through without having to buy FMJ bullets.

I like mine.

Welcome from not as tall 6'1 180lbs.

I love my CW9. price was excellent and shoots fantastic. no fingers dangling from the bottom of the grip. That said the PM9 sounds good from a compact pocket stand point but I can IWB carry the CW9 at 2 oclock no problem, no printing, light and comfortable.

You'll enjoy whatever you get.

I prefer the P9 to the CW, primarily for cosmetic reasons. Since I got my K9, I tend to carry it more than my P9. Any of the Kahr line conceal well in part because they are so flat and smooth. Weight does not usually affect my choice unless it is summer and I am wearing shorts. The P9 can be pocket carried in a large cargo pocket, and is light enough that it will not pull your pants down. :D

I went with the cw9 and spent the difference on a Crimson Trace laser. I have carried it in my front jean pocket in a Desantis Nemesis holster. I also have a cw45 that I carry owb in a High Noon holster. By the way welcome. There is a lot of Kahr wisdom on this sight.

Dusty...I noticed pic's of the Silent Thunder Holster and was concern to see exposed threads on retention screw facing body side of holster...Can you shed some light...thoughts on this for me? I'm considering purchase for my PM9

I live in MA and have been carrying the compliant pm9 for almost a year. I cant picture a much better carry pistol. Its a great shooter that is easy to conceal & carry many different ways. i carry iwb & sometimes front pocket although not too often because i prefer my wallet in my right front pocket. dont think you can go wrong with any of the kahrs but the pm9 is def gonna be the most versatile carry. polymer is very rugged and more comfortable if against skin & wont rust too. good luck, like i said i dont think you can go wrong with the kahrs.

The threads on the bodyside of the silent thunder retention screws are recessed and not in touch with body. I like my silent thiunder because of the ability to adjust the cant of the gun on your belt, doesn't absorb sweat and with leather lining is quiet.
