Well new mg42/53 arrived today. Took her to the range with her ground mount. Spent more time talking to people and answering question from people oogling the old warmachine, than actually shooting it. will try again this weekend and get better pics/video.

Dang! I see that you sleep with your "toys", too... as Bawanna' does? :D If you're married, does that go between the two of you... or on your outside... or do you have to sleep with it alone in another room.... Inquiring minds and all.... :D
That's a beauty. I always wanted an M-60 (the full rock and roll model), but they've gotten too expensive and I got married along the way... again... and quite happily. I was seriously in the market for a SMG after my divorce in '82 and before getting orders to Germany for early in '83.
Watch out for getting oil and other "secretions" on the bed sheets.... :D

Thanks for the laugh... all warm and flushed now... and not all of that is my bit of wine. Dang! It's time for wifey to warn... er, let me know she's leaving work. I have her trained... for HER safety. :D

Now that's a Man toy!!! Thats' the beauty of guns, I don't know diddly about that thing but I love it as much as a man can love a piece of metal. I've got a little chubby and some drool coming out of my mouth.
Wife says try some Shout or similar detergent directly on the grease spot. Funny she never comes up with these life saving ideas when I'm in trouble.
Shsh, I've used Goof Off on such marks before with good success too.
If it's truely oil or grease another tactic is oven cleaner.
I wish you luck. It looks a bit heavy, perhaps too heavy for your wife to wield as a club.

That Goop hand cleaner (under $2 at Wally World) works on grease and oil... so it says. Bawanna' has to keep his toys oiled up to keep the slobber from causing rust... and I don't think all of those "secretions" are from the gun.:boink:
Man, Wifey got here before I got out of my chair... even forgot to take her salad and leftover steak out of the fridge for her... didn't make up the bed from my nap... Dang!
She's very forgiving, though. I just feel so "Andy Capp". She hates that I post a lot of Andy Capp cartoons on the fridge.

Haha. Weighs 26 pounds as pictured, and if locked on its ground field tripod weighs over 80 pounds, so either was cant use it as a club, BUT she has access to the 1897 trenchgun...:(
Basicly was one of germanys most feared weapons of WWII with rate of fire of 1200 rpm

Somehow I knew it was German, how is beyond me. So what caliber is that thing?
I absolutely love 97's. It would be a crime to use a trench version as a club. I'd cry and cry when I woke up from the hit.
Another fine gun whose price went thru the roof due to the cowboys.

I always like the exposed hammer... and the bayonet is pretty intimidating, too, if you're a BG trying to break into a house and the owner confronts you... talking about the '97, of course.
Wasn't the "buzzsaw" an 8mm?? 7.92mm... close enough:

so that you don't want to look dumb, look in a mirror when you do a dumb thing to see what you look like and then when you do a "wise" thing, look again in a mirror and if the look is the same as the "dumb" look, my friend YOU HAVE SOME BIG PROBLEMS:yo:

The only issue is its a semi auto converted gun made of 80% original german parts and new rear receiver. Wife would have killed me if i morgaged the house to buy a $35,000 toy. Shes still mad i spent 3,000. Very easy to simulate f/a on tripod as it bumpfires as easy as a ar15.
Why the 97 is my home defense gun. The bayonet is a great backup incase of jam/out of ammo/failure to fire, or for that "oh s%#t i give up" effect.

Yeah...sure...blame it on the gun. :o
A little excited, were we??
:D
Very cool. I suspect it will attract a crowd every time you take it out to a range. The MG42 having a rate of fire of 1200 rpm is impressive. Were you aware that the Browning M2 is capable of a whopping 1500 rpm? I can't imagine holding on to one doing that.
Enjoy your new toy.

Wow that seems like a bargain to me. I figured at least twice that much. How hard is it to get ammo for that thing?

surplus 8mm is cheap and plentiful. Issue is finding people willing to ship to mass. Everyones under assumption its illegal which isnt, provided supply copy of fid ltc ect when you buy it. Luckily i got 8k rounds of it shipped to me for under 500 bucks :)
Gun cost 2200, ground mount with optics 400, spare barrel, few wwii 50 round belts and drum holders 300

Wow! That was a deal... about 6 cents a round, delivered!
I must have spent over 4 times that in the last year and got about half as many bullets... .380, 9mm, and .45. It sure adds up.

That is a thing of beauty.
So the 7.8 or whatever designation is really 8mm. I gotta 8mm mauser, makes sense to have that machine as a room mate. Someday.

How cool is that? That smile on your face at the end is priceless. Wicked cool that is.
Whats the pool table ball racker triangle on the front for? Hope this isn't a completely stupid question that any 3rd grader should know the answer too. Maybe I should say preschooler cause I'm sure some 3rd graders got a jump on me.

LOL took me a second to figure out what you meant. It is the sling. I detatch from the rear grip to mount to the mg3 lafette mount, and just clip to front hoot just to get it out of the way so it isnt flopping everywhere.

Ha if they allowed rifles for hunting in this state, id def set it up with a 5 round belt to take down a deer that crossed its path.

They don't allow hunting with rifles in the whole state of Mass?

Well I just scratched out hunting rifle sales in Mass of my list of business possiblities. So far sucking out septic tanks with a straw is at the top of the list. I was really hoping to knock that one down a few notches. I think the hula hoop trend is about dead as disco so it's not looking real good.
I hunted archery for years and love black powder too but a guy just has to have a dozen or so hunting rifles too.
Kind of sad.
At least you got that wicked cool toy and obviously several others to play with so that should help make it all ok.

Centerfire rifles are allowed in MA for hunting bear, coyote, fox, bobcat, but not deer.
