So, I just got out of the Army a few months ago. My first purchase was a carry weapon. I almost bought a Walther PPS. I decided not to due to the fact that it only had 1 magazine grip extension on a set of three and extra magazines are very expensive. Without the grip extension, my hand did not fit comfortably at all. When I picked up the CW45 it not only fit my hand perfectly, it pointed naturally and was chambered for my most reloaded cartridge. I immediantly orderd a spare magazine for it. Been with me a few months now and I must say im very impressed and satisfied. BTW, this is my first polymer framed handgun. So far, I am very very happy with this gun. I am nowhere near new with handguns or firearms in general, so I find my experience speaks for itself. Upon reloading cartridges I came across functionality problems which resulted in simply seating bullets deeper. However a steady diet of 230 Grn FMJ is what seems to keep it happy! Only two things that I do not find appealing about this gun is:

1. Polymer sights. I prefer metal sights period.
2. The checkering on the front and back. When shooting full house loads it tends to bite just a wee bit.
3. My thumb rests very close to the magazine release and during my first field exercise with the misses in the country my thumb actually hit the mag release button, causing a no-feed due to an unseated magazine. I changed my grip slightly, but the smooth sides bother me.

However, I find it to be very pleasant to shoot and so easy to disassemble I can do it blindfolded. Hey, I knew officers that couldn't take apart their M9's :D.

Sonofodin, first thanks for your service in the army. You can't hear that enough.
Glad your CW45 is what you dreamed of and got something good right off the bat.
Theres more and more aftermarket sights available for the CW's so you might be able to toss the plastic.
Slip a Hogue Handall Jr on the grip and the bit will be gone and the grip will feel better too. I just used an old innertube for quite awhile and it worked fine too but the guys here kept ribbing me about being cheap so I shelled out the 7 bucks (all at once) an put the Hogues on there.
I too just last week experience the have to seat the bullets a tad deeper. They grew just enough that I actually locked the gun up tight at the range. Had to bring it home and use the dowel and vise trick to get the slide back. Little shorter bullets next time for sure.
Welcome, you'll like it here.

Thanks so much. I just read the post about modifying officers 1911 mags to fit flush in a CW45. Thinkin it might be project time, but I think someone should write a letter to Kahr about making them. If I might make a suggestion about the lock up issue you had....

I feed check all the rounds before I even leave the bench. If they stick too much or are too hard to extract I use a caliper to measure them, set them about .10 of an inch deeper and try manual extraction again until they feed without too much hassle. I have some 200 Grain XTP's loaded with just below max charge of unique ready to test. I not only seated them deep enough, but I also crimped them as much as possible. If you want the specs, drop me a msg and I'll shoot it off to you. Also if you could link me to the modification parts you mentioned I would appreciate it. Thanks again for the quick welcome!

I throw the caliper on all my reloads and have shot lots thru my PM45. This batch was some 185 gr Hornady XTP's that I got free with my press. They were right at book spec 1.230 as I recall, I think my seating die just wasn't staying and they grew just a tad. I've since put em deeper and did just what you suggested. Chambered a few to make sure they fly.
I gotta get out and shoot these and if they fly load a bunch more.
Those Hogue Handall Jrs are probably in just about any gun shop you enter so easy to find or failing that the innertube out of the neighbor kids bike works great.

I had the same problem with my seating die sometimes wanting to back out a bit. Frustrating because i started measuring every 5 rounds....Funny you should mention the neighbors kids bike. He's a 24 y/o thug that acts 17 and is a criminal. His brother came home from the core and woke him up DI style with a beatin for loosing his bike. Imagine the drama if I just stole the tires!

Let's hope the Marine beat some sense into him.

Well, I guess I am cheap too, Bawanna45cal, because since I work part time at a local sports store that sells bicycle parts(sells guns too) I bought a bicycle inner tube, and cut the appropriate size piece, and it fits like a tight fitting glove, on my PM9. The Hogue looks a little bulky. That is why I got the inner tube. Feels great now, and no recoil bite.

Thank you for your service to our country, and welcome to the forum!

I have a Hogue Jr. slip on on my CW9 it does take the bite out of shooting 150 rounds or more at a range session. I recently removed the slip on and shot several IDPA stages with no abrasion, but put the Hogue grip back on because it felt better. I shot the same stages and had a slight improvement in time and score.

To each his own! What I don't like about the Hogue is it tends to rotate around on the grip after several magazines shot and I am forced to reposition the thing. Other than that no complaints. The CW series are great pistols. Good shooting!

Its done in a big 3D tattoo on my right shoulder with the battle flag of the 69th irish brigade underneath with gaelic fraises. Rarely leave the house without wearing one around my neck either!
