So, I'd like to bring to light a mistake I made awhile back when I first got my Kahr CW45. The reason I am sharing this is not for criticism or to hear what a dum dum I am. I'm sharing this as a tutorial lesson for people newer to shooting sports and firearms. The first opportunity I got to shoot my CW45 I was stoked and excited. I felt like Jeff on an episode of gunblast.com. This was also the first opportunity I had to let the misses shoot guns after being told durin her rasin' that it weren't fit for her to learn. So, a box of WWB FMJ and 2 magazines AND my Remington Express 12 gauge w/extended tube (9+1 for 2 3/4 in) and some field loads I set off. After a nice drive through the country listinin to country I found a spot set back in the woods with a large, natural berm of dirt and rock that was the ideal place for a free shoot. Off the road but such a large berm that safety was assured. I even remembered ear pro for the both of us. The first few magazines through at about 75yrds and I was VERY impressed with accuracy, recoil and overall performance. Rock bustin sure was fun. I then let the misses shoot it for her first time which resulted in alot of coaxes not to be afraid of it goin off and keep hands on it etc. After her 4th or so shot I noticed the guide rod sticking out of the front. WAIT A SECOND! Upon closer inspection I realized that one end of the spring is open and the other closed, to which I had reversed them. Silly ole hillbilly! Needless to say it was an easy fix. The misses could barely hold that huge 12 gauge up so I got her to firing from the hip. Wish I had a video! Anyways, Always be extra careful that you reassemble your firearms correctly. I made a rushed, novice mistake and noticed it in time to correct it without trouble or damage!

Yup, not catastrophic, all is forgiven. I had an officer clean his Beretta back when we carried Beretta's. In the process he knocked out his trigger bar spring. Didn't know it, put it back together and carried it fortunately only about a week before he had a range day. Got one shot and then of course nothing.
Simple little thing that turns a duty gun into a paperweight. I function check the heck out of everything I touch now in memory of that snafu.

I once had to teach the S-6 commo officer how to work his Beretta up at the command post. 1st LT type. Top got a kick out of it for sure heh......

sometimes when we admit a mistake on this forum, it sure goes a long way towards helping others to not do what you did. being able to laugh at yourself is also a good thing. we are not faultless on this forum. I made a mistake once back in 1964, I think it was!!!!!!

Oh here we go! :D. I had to walk to the mess hall up and down hill both ways in the blazing heat/cold under constant sniper and artillery fire and my boots had holes in them and my rifle was permanently jammed shut......:p. Ima kiddin. Thanks for the support tho Jocko. I only walked to the chow hall once under arty fire. (im serious). I had midnight munchies on duty and raided the cook's ultra secret stash of reese's peices, pudding, fruit cups and other goodies. Hey! I shared with Top and the Major!

I used to love getting a new staffer or ossifer come into my armory and want me to teach them the Berreta in five minutes or less. I loved the look on their faces when I seemed to look at that pistol and had all the pieces on the table in front of them. I'll tell you why I'm not a big fan of the midnight muchies raids on the chow hall later though.

I got deployed to a little hostile area called Bosnia and being under Clinton's rules well you get the idea of how much fun it really was. We had a ******* from I think it was West By God, that thought he could throw a knife and stick it. What I haven't mentioned yet was the fact that we had a path 20" or so wide that was well marked. This path led from the barracks to the chow hall and to the head. If you looked off that path you could see these little three pronged devices sticking up all over the place. There was a piece of plywood that had been propped up in this mine field, and our intrepid moron finally got close enough to it without anyone close enough to talk him out of doing something stupid like throwing his bayonet. Well he did and it didn't stick. That blade bounced out into the mine field and set off a few of them. Fortunately, the worst injury sustained was a piece of shrapnel in the butt. If you have never seen an anti personnel mine go off then (it was a bouncing betty type that went first) then you haven't lived. Most of us decided then and there that straying off that little path was a real bad idea.

Oh yes we got our point across to that moron. I'm all about learning the old ways to do things like knife and hawk throwing, but I realize that 1 I can't throw anything to save my life, 2 I know when and where a good time to try that is, and it's not in the middle of a mine field in a hostile land, 3 the old ways are still valid and may indeed save your butt sometime (despite what those who out rank you might think, another story for another time though) 4 just because some one had more rank than I did doesn't mean they know WTF. Sorry for that rant, my time in Bosnia has made me harsh and cold.

Thank you for your service guys. You have made us proud. It is because of you that we still have our liberty and our rights, not the least of which is the right to bear arms.
