Okay, I've posted two problems here on my 2-week old gun (slidelock and mag catch) and my feeble attempts to correct them. Well whatever you do, DO NOT be honest with Kahr customer service (yes, even the esteemed Eoin).

Long story short, I called, talked with Eoin, explained EXACTLY what was happening and what I tried to correct it. Because I had "touched" the slidelick & mag catch and done "MAJOR gunsmithing" by some minor filing and polishing to correct THEIR problem, my factory warranty is now VOID?! I said "WTF? That's for my slidelock and mag catch only, right? I'll buy new ones." The answer was "no, your ENTIRE GUN is now voided"! Because they "can't tell what else I've done to the gun". Isn't that the case with ANY gun? Can they tell I hacked the whole gun up, sight unseen, by a little filing and polishing?

To me, this it TOTALLY unacceptable. Sure they should make me buy a new slidelock and mag catch (but even that is BS since the damn gun was crap out of the box). Maybe make me pay for shipping to look at it until the verify the rest of the gun is untouched, etc. But to outright say FU, that's not our gun anymore is TOTAL BS.

I've got a mind to sell this POS and buy back my P3AT which I had ZERO problems with over 3+ years.

Well it wasn't Eoin himself that dreamed this up I think. After I explained the situation he got off the phone and talked with one of their 'smiths. Then when he got back on he gave the the line about "major gunsmithing". It must have been someone else who told him to give me the heave ho. I'm betting a crotchety old gunsmith.

Before I call them again, waiting on response to an email I sent to Eoin with the pic of my followers asking what caused the gouging. Told him it appeared the gun did "major gunsmithing" to itself by firing it!

Feel for you, man. I've got a CW9 in there for hopefully warranty work. Waiting to hear back after 3 weeks with a verdict.

There's an old saying - Treat a customer right and they'll tell 3 people, treat them poorly and they'll tell 20....

How is this ending up, anyway?

The WTF? factor for your problem is pretty high.
If they told me that my warranty was void I'd understand. In your case I don't. All's not lost because Kahr supplies parts at very resonable prices. Check out their website. It may be easier and cheaper for you to install new parts than hassling with shipments. When you fix it then the pistol is very likely to stay fixed. Personally, I want a pistol that works, not a warranty.
Don't take the next statement wrong, I just gotta say it. (disclaimer)
I've seen people do amazing things when they put their mind to it but don't make any repairs that are over your head or dangerous.

FWIW, I have sent "gunsmithed" handguns to S&W a few times, and they alkways came back repaired at no charge under their lifetime warranty. They are pleasant and professional. Once they even sent me a free mag back with a gun because it took longer than they said it would. It's just good business.

I've told the story of the MK9 that was recovered from the bottom of Puget Sound after 45 days in salt water. It came back in a new factory box, with paperwork and new mags and pretty as the day it was born. In about 10 days. No Charge!
Couldn't hit a paper plate at 3 yards with it, so I ordered a new barrel thinking the rifling was corroded. They wouldn't sell me one but sent a new one for free. Now it's a tack driver and the guys here fight over it. Kind of a dept mascot.
Kahr customer service doesn't take a back seat to anyone in my book.

I don't usually complain about customer service because I don't experience poor service often. And it always bugs me when I read petty complaints from impatient people.

But I've never had such bad luck with reaching KAHR customer service as today. Maybe they're short handed and/or very busy today because they've always answered promptly in the past.

I ordered new springs for my P9 on Nov 22nd and still have not received them (MA to AZ). The order should have been shipped prior to the Thanksgiving holiday rush. So I called to find out if they were even shipped, when they were shipped, how they were shipped, to what address they were shipped and hopefully get a tracking number.

Five times I waited for several minutes (15 minutes?) listening to the "muzak" and repetitive "we are still busy please hold someone will be with you shortly" messages every few seconds. The speaker phone must have been invented for such frustration. Five times a male recorded voice finally came on and said to e-mail or leave a voice mail for best manner of contact, then I get cut off and removed from que. Then the customer must dial all over again including all of "press 1-2-3" etc.

I'm still waiting for a return reply from last week to technical service about a problem I'm having with the P9 that I hope the springs will remedy...

I've sent an e-mail requesting the information but so far gotten only an automated response that they'll be in touch. Anyone know Mr. Moon's cell number?

KAHR, are you listening? There's got to be a better way...:phone::(

**UPDATE 11/30/10** I still couldn't get through to customer service (after five frustrating attempts by phone) before KAHR closed for the day and I have not received a reply back from a 2nd e-mail. But I just received the parts ordered late this afternoon via FEDEX ground. I think USPS even on its worst day probably could have done better in the delivery time frame of Nov 22nd to Nov 30th (and probably cheaper as well) even with the holiday. Asking about manner of shipping should be kept in mind.

The bad news is the stainless guide rod was almost 1/4" longer than the oem. The package says "NYPD K9/late P9" but I could not install it into my (late version/dimpled slide) P9 because of the extended length/angle. Even if I could have installed the extra length rod, it would have protruded out the front of the slide by a like amount.

I wasn't about to wait another two weeks to return it and wait for KAHR/FEDEX ground again, so I machined it down to the oem steel rod length. I told the sales rep several times the rod was for a late version (dimpled slide) P9. Somewhere that critical information got lost between the rep and the shipping department. Or maybe KAHR expects customers to DIY modify springs and guide rods now (referring to the recent new tapered slide PM9 recoil spring thread by another member).

The recoil spring appears to be three coils (approx. 1 1/2") longer than the oem spring. I'll contribute that to it being new and the oem spring being used/compressed so its hard to compare apples to apples. I installed it and it dry functions fine, so a range test will tell me for certain. Six new magazine springs were also installed. If these parts correct the problem, this will all seem trivial in a couple of days, but I'll keep it in mind if/when I have to deal with KAHR customer service in the future. And again, this is not like my past experience with KAHR customer service...
