View Full Version : Best Single Clip, Minimalist, Cheap-O IWB

I really got my PM9 for pocket carry...will usually go with my bigger and heavier XD40 subcompact for anything else. But I wouldn't mind a very minimalist, single clip IWB for wearing tucked in polos.

Since the Kahr is really light and small, I feel it's overkill for a full two clip IWB rig with backing, and would like a suggestion for a cheap, single clip that is really as small as possible. I like this DeSantis but don't even want the extra fabric of the spare mag holder:

http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/9766/sides002.jpg

I like the look of the Galco but it seems to sit really high, which I don't want, as I think it would print a lot more on thin polo shirts.

http://www.usgalco.com/Catalog/large/STOW_NGO.jpg

And I've heard bad things about Klydex, such as the wear marks it leaves on your gun after awhile, and just imagine that the hard material would leave all sorts of printing bumps under my shirt and would be much more noticeable than something soft?

http://www.granitearms.com/Library/Bladetech-UCH.jpg

I've also heard bad thinks about the types of clips that tuck under the belt and grab it from below. People have posted that these put too much weight on the waistline of pants, making them more noticeable and less stable.

Another forum had a 5 page thread extolling the virtues of the Remora clip less, and I'll be looking into buying one of those as soon as I can get to a retailer.

The holster is sold here (http://www.remoraholsters.com/Home_Page.html)

The other forum discussion is here (http://www.defensivecarry.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?113350-Remora-No-Clip-Holster-I-am-now-a-believer!!&highlight=Remora)

Biggie, that was an eye opening post! Thank you! I am VERY interested in the Remora...seems almost too good to be true. You can find thread after thread on all sorts of gun sites singing its praises. I emailed the owner to ask which model the PM9 fits. Did this late last night and this morning first thing, I had his response in my inbox. Sounds interesting.

Here's what the owner, Alan Bogdan emailed me:

"For the PM9, you would need the #4. The #4A is if you have any accessories on the gun like a laser. Pics should be up for the S.S (sweat shield version) this coming week. The original holster covers most of the gun, only exposing the body to the rear sites up and the grip. The sweat shield is an additional tab that will cover these as well and is series #4 S.S. It is not in our store or cart as of now, but it should be on the store by next week.

The sweat shield verison is not ambidextrous so don't forget draw side, firearm make and model and sweat shield in your order. The base price of the holster is $24.95. The sweat shield addition is $5.00 for a total of $29.95, plus a fixed rate on shipping of $4.95. $34.90."

Thanks Riccardo,
I'm running out of excuses for not ordering one.
I like that re-enforced top on that other model too.

I have a kholster now that fits both the CW9/PM9 but is a lot of holster for iddy-biddy guns and a pain getting on and off.

That linked thread showed a pocket holster with a clip added that looked workable too.
I'm trying not to end up with a closet full of holsters...again.

Thanks again,
Tilos

Hey Tilos...Just found an even cheaper resource for the Remora. It's free shipping on Ebay from seller gotstuff_net. He is an 'authorized' reseller for Remora and his free shipping deal is only supposed to last a short time longer. I'm getting mine now:

How does it stay on your waist with no clip?

Don't know yet! Just put in my order and I will unfortunately be traveling when it arrives. Hopefully I'll have a report before Thanksgiving.

Here's a horror story I heard. Someone I know has one but stopped using it. Why, you ask? Well he carried it at the small of his back for a few days. He and his wife went to an Indian casino and he has to go to the bathroom. Well he steps up the the row of urinals which is packed and unzips, forgetting about the pistol at his back. As soon as the waistband pressure is released, it falls out and bangs loudly against the ground. The bathroom is filled with the typical low lives and seniors you see at casinos, and everyone is staring.

My friend grabs his gun and some of the other guys are looking scared. He grabs his wife at the slot machine and pulls her out of the casino. As they are driving out of the parking structure with his wife still thinking he is overreacting, 6 tribal police cars are screaming up to the front of the building with sirens blazing.

He goes home paranoid that they picked him up on facial recognition cameras or more likely, by pairing him with his wife and the players card she had stuck into her slot machine. But luckily nothing happened. He calls and finds out that the tribe has a very strict LAW...yes, they make their own laws, enforced federally, against firearms. So he feels he dodged a major bullet.

I absolutely LOVE my Don Hume for IWB, so much so I bought another for my M&P .40. Not mine^^^ but is the same color (love it), Also it stays open with no gun so it allows for re-holstering. As far as that other holster, I have heard even worse things about Nylon holsters wearing down finishes even faster than Kydex. Nothing but leather for my guns.

I just received my Remora this weekend, and I really like it. I have it covered with a tucked in t-shirt, and it's virtually invisible and not moving anywhere. It was a little tricky to get a shirt tucked in over it and have it stay in place, but with practice that will work out too.

Well after two days of trying to wear the Remora with a shirt tucked over it, I've come to the conclusion that this is not the best method to wear this holster.

I've managed to keep the shirt tucked in, but I think that when my outer shirt wants to ride up it pulls the holster with it. If I keep the holster tucked into the waistband, outside of all shirts, it works just like they say it does.

Good 2nd report. I wondered about that very thing. The holster naturally would want to stick to your shirt. If you went to rip your shirt out of the way for a draw it would have to rip the holster out with it.
Outside the shirt with another untucked shirt over it seems like it would work well.
Seems like they had a model with a sweat guard that might work with no shirt between it and the skin but you'd still have to leave the shirt untucked.

I did buy the sweat guard model, and I'm glad I did, it also keeps the gun from poking you in the side.

And you are correct ... tucked, with an untucked shirt over it, would be the best way to use this holster. And wearing it like that this is a really good little, inexpensive (I try to never say 'cheap', and this holster certainly isn't cheap quality) holster.

I started a thread about the Remora about ten days ago when I received mine. I wasn't expecting much when I ordered it, but was pleasantly surprised that it works quite well. In fact, it's the only IWB holster that I will wear and I have a drawer full of them. I have eight 45's ranging from the P220 down to the PM45. I ordered the Style 11 to fit the larger guns, and found that they will all fit in the holster. They PM45 is so small that it's a bit hard to dig out, but the holster will carry it securely and comfortably. I don't usually carry an extra mag, but they sent me a mag carrier along with the holster. I've found that it works great for my cell phone, and I don't keep banging it into everything like before.

As some others, I don't like a gun against my skin, so I wear it outside a tucked shirt with another shirt or jacket outside.

I bought the remora without the sweat guard because I #1 like the ambidextrous option as it allows my wife (righty) to possibly use the holster if she ever decided to IWB. I also liked that it was small, comparable to the DeSantis superfly, and was worried that the sweat shield version would be too large. Can you post a pic or give us some idea of the demensions of your Remora?

OK, so what about the serious problems with Remora and wearing it with a tucked shirt? This seems like a no-go for this type of holster. When you try to untuck a shirt in a emergency, odds are the gun & holster will come out with it, possibly falling to the floor since the Remora is clinging to the shirt....right?

That would be my prediction and pretty much what was determined earlier. I think an untucked shirt over it would be the only way for it to work well. Excellent concept but with some limitations.

Hi all,I am new to this forum as I have bought back my CW9 from a friend,I have carried for 2 years using a high noon split decision tuckable IWB,I just picked up two Remora's at a LGS.One for me and one for my wife, they are by far the most comfortable IWB for sure.More coverage on the gun to skin factor and you can adjust it up and down as there is no clip.Seems it may get a bit sweaty in the summer but my high noon does too. They are cheap enough.I am glad to have the CW9 back the glock 26 will have to sit in the safe for now.M

Also, reholstering would be difficult at best.

I hear this alot. Remora came out with a reinforced holster to solve this problem. But my question is how fast do you need to reholster a gun? Comfort, ease of draw, functionality would all be way more important to me.

I'd like to get this thread back to the original question. What holster would work best with PM9, and be:

- IWB
- single-clip
- riding low (but not so low that it'd be hard to obtain a grip -- which seems to be the case with the ACE I'm currently using)
- canted or cantable
- tuckable

Given my choice of holster for Glock, RM LowRider comes very close to answering all of this criteria -- except it isn't tuckable, which is pretty important for me when it comes to PM9 (the Glock rides in MTAC when I need the shirt tucked; and MTAC seems like an overkill with a small and light gun like PM9).

Oh, and -- pictures would be much appreciated :-) Thanks everyone!

You can not beat a High Noon Holsters "Mr. Softy" for minimalist ItW concealment.
Its the thinest ItW you can get, perfectly fitted for the pistol, made of quality leather(that will last, trust me) with a metal clip and its ~$26 :)

I used to have this same exact holster for G26 at one point, and IMO the clip failed to keep the holster in place (too wide for the 1.5" belt), while the stitching was starting to separate. The gun retention was also worse compared to my other holsters.

While the stitching could've been fixed, the other problems really turned me off this particular line of holsters.

+1 Pain. I carry a G26 with one AIWB and love it. The clip is a beefy reverse J clip that will stay on the belt when you draw the gun. A holster best buy IMO.

For the original poster...you will have to decide how you want to carry, we are all built different and have various needs when it comes to how we carry, The past year I have been carrying an M&P9c in a tuckable High Noon Split Decision...it is a quality made, thin cowhide holster that stays put and doesn't have any chance of coming out when you draw. It is a great value, I had one for my CW40 first and plan on getting a High Noon for my recent purchase a CW9.

I've pretty much settled on using Mika's holster for pocket carry or Comp-Tac MTAC for when I need a tuckable holster. I've also just ordered an RM Lowrider, as it is by far my favorite for Glock 26; unfortunately it isn't tuckable.

I really wanted to like High Noon holsters, but I guess reverse J-clip just isn't my thing.
