Since our gun season here in Missouri opened this past Saturday, and I killed the biggest deer of my life, I figured we should have a show and tell for those of us that hunt.
I shot this guy opening morning, about 1 minute into my hunt (I had just sat my milk crate down to sit on it when I saw him looking at me) with a Remington 700 30-06 at about 40 yards.
This is by far the biggest buck I have ever killed. He weighed a bit over 200 pounds and a very nice rack, especially for the area I hunt in.
Enough bragging on myself, what did you guys get?

Thats a hell of a nice rack there Justin. You folks count points different than out here. I was at a cousins hunting cabin back there many many years ago and about came unraveled. They'd written their names, years and how many points and there was like 18 pts and 27 points, figured they was talking porcupines not deer. Some nice heads back there. My cousin leaves an old scrapped out porta potty out in a field near his place. Just walks out there and sits inside looking out the little shooting ports. Guess they get used to seeing it and it don't bother em none. The porta potty's all gutted out, I told him I'd a left it intact. When you gotta go you gotta go ya know. Hope you can get that blood stain off the driveway. Something happens in your neighborhood and the CSI folks show up it could get downright interesting.
I nearly got a couple pheasant this year, drive thru a release site everyday on the way to work. Stupid birds walk right down the road. I had the window down and the 45 drawn but it was close to a ditch and I figgered if I killed the thing I wouldn't be able to get to it. Have to stop somebody with legs to fetch me dinner.
Almost got a nice buck too, same deal but it was in a guys driveway and I might of hit the garage door. Would have been awkward ya know, ringing the bell and asking if they'd help me load the deer I shot in your driveway. Didn't want to take the chance.

I haven't seen a thing yet. I missed this past weekend but apparently was a good thing I did. We live on the county line and our road is the boundary. Lets say one side allows dog hunting, the side we are on not. And lets just say they say over 20 dogs Friday through Sunday. There might be a few less if that keeps up... Worst part is that it isn't the dogs fault and the owners don't care. We usually end up with 2 or 3 dead ones found yearly that are left behind by the owners because they can't find them or won't bother to put in the effort to retrieve them and they die of malnutrition on the land. Darn shame.

Wish I had time and place to go, but that's life. I'll get it all together in three more semesters.

If you lived in NC, you'd have a place to hunt for free!!

Not as big as the OP's deer, but here's my opening day buck. Got him around 2:30 - 3:00 in the afternoon after I'd passed up a smaller one early in the morning. This one was just big enough to have a good amount of meat but still be nice and tender. I went out a little early for the evening hunt to check out an area where I had seen some does bedded down/grazing in the morning. When I got set up behind a fallen tree, this guy peeked out at me from about 20 yards away to my left. As I swung my rifle around, he turned calmly and headed down a trail away from me. I knew where the trail dumped out, about 100 yards away, so I moved down to the other end of the tree and waited for him to come out. As he came out, he turned toward me and kept coming closer and closer. I had him in the crosshairs the whole time. When he got to about 50 yards away I couldn't wait any longer and put one just (his) left of center in his chest as he faced me. He limped about 20 yards and dropped. Broken shoulder and heart shot. Minimal meat damage!
Now I just need to get my doe.

I did for a little while, but that didn't work out. I didn't even get a tag for the year where I moved back. I knew a bunch of tobacco farmers and such, but there was a bunch more going on than would let me hunt. That was not a good time for me or mine.

Northeastern Nebraska.
Looks like some nice pretty open country, what little tiny bit I can see in the picture.

It's my little corner of the world so I like it. "Open" is relative, I guess. There are open areas and treed areas. Next door (the next quarter section to the east) is in the CRP program so there's plenty of tall grass and small trees for the deer to bed down in. My place is like a pass-through on the way to a pond that's on the place to the east. A great place for an ambush.

Its wide open compared to the west side of the cascades here in washington. There's many areas where a 30 yard shot would be impossible. Occasional clearings but alot of thick and green.
Get to the east side and its much more like your area looks. More grass, trees further apart and way more open.
Back in my bow hunting days I've had huge elk on one side of the bushes and me on the other 15ft apart and couldn't get an arrow thru. Challenging to say the least.

Its a little slow and boring around here this morning. Lets see some more great hunter pictures, even not so great hunter pictures will work.
Great hunter standing next to empty meat pole. I got alot of those.
For those maybe camera challenged like myself maybe even a good hunter story will get things going. Lets try to stay at least 30% truthful, a little credibility never hurt nobody.

To me around here the title Newbie is rather refreshing. An talking about not being the same, I'm no where near the same as I was when I hunted. Not many animals succumbed to my efforts but I enjoyed every single minute I was in the woods. I still see the woods, just getting out to the less traveled areas is alot trickier.
There was that one miserable cold wet trip but I try to keep that in the back of my head.
