I feel like a moron after just now discovering that 5 of the 10 unidentified magazines that came with the used P9 I bought a few months ago are actually extended length 8 round mags. The other 5 mags hold the normal 7 rounds. Call me Mr. Observant! :blushing: I still don't know who makes these mags; Pro Mag, Triple K or Brand X??
Here's a pic of the black extended base mag compared to the other factory mags that also came with the P9. As you can see the finger rest is a bit larger to allow the mag tube to be a bit longer. Overall the mag is 1/4" longer. I've used these mystery mags a few times and they've always worked, but with only 7 rounds. I'm going to load them up with 8 rounds and see if they might be "carry worthy".

something about that follower just don't look right. Does the mag release work properly with these magazines of unknown origin?

Yes, the follower is different, but they still feed reliably, hold the slide open on the last round and the release catch is just the same as factory mags, (it just isn't visible in the picture). The difference is that the finger rest feels a little bit odd due to a difference in shape, and the follower all but eliminated that angle change or gap between the top round and the one below it.

By any chance does this mystery mag still have the same problem as the factory mags when it comes to loosing rounds when carrying a spare mag?

I can't say totally accurately. I don't carry an extra mag normally. I do have a mag carrier on a shoulder holster and when I rip the mystery mag from the Cobra Tuffskin mag holder I do not lose the top round. I pulled the mag out every way I could, fast, slow, left, right, etc., and did not dislodge a round. This particular model accepts the mag oriented in one direction only...maybe that helps.

I would think that would help immensely. Kind of like that added piece posted earlier, it creates that angle so the follower and top round are fully supported.
I wouldn't think that follower would help the top loose round problem as it is the mag lips that are letting them loose.
As long as they work it's all good. It looks like they just didn't round off that forward edge like the Kahr. Heck maybe that would help on second thought, more support to the front, bullet couldn't tip down quite as easy, could happen.

As a "control test" I just loaded up a factory Kahr mag and proceeded to rip it out of the mag carrier, the same as I did for the mystery mag. No rounds popped off the factory mag either. The Kahr mag fits this particular carrier quite snuggly, and it takes quite the effort to remove a mag fast. No matter at whatever angle I pulled, the complete load emerged ready to go into the gun.
Maybe Cobra ia a brand some of you that carry extra mags would want to try.

It looks like a Promag to me.
I bought a couple of used ones before just to try, mine worked fine with fmj but didn't care for hollowpoints very much.
