Friend and I just got our new PM4544s. As anticipated, tough to rack the slides due to recoil spring. Feels like the last 1/4 inch or so is toughest.
I have two K9098s - replaced the factory 20# with Wolff 18#. Also have MK9 - replaced the factory 20.5# with Wolff 18.5#. Helped racking on all those and have not found any problems due to lighter recoil springs.
For PMs - will recoil spring loosen up with shooting and does it help to let it sit with slide locked back ?
I do not see lighter recoil springs for PM45 on Wolff site. If it does not loosen up, I'm considering cutting off one coil at a time on outer spring till slide racks easier and testing function each time.
Has anyone cut coils ? If so, did it help, did it work ?
If I mess up, KAHR shop has
Recoil Spring Guide Assembly with Recoil Spring
$23.10
Thanks, tax

No different recoil springs are available yet for the PM45. I would sure in hell not advise cutting off any coil or coils, just to accomadate the fact that your are having a hard time racking the slide. everyone else seems to adjust to it and in time you will to. Also more rounds down racnge will lighten up the springs u hav ein there now but not alot either...If kahr wante them shorter, they would have made them shorter.
When wolffs does come out with different springs for the PM45, it will not be lighter springs but heavier poundage springs. My PM9 was stout at first but after I got used to the gun and did some racking techniques, I have no issue and I actually have the next heavier recoil poundage springs in my PM9 even.
Stick with it, u will get used to it but IMO do not shorten the factory springs. It might make it easier to rack but it can also cause slide damage to.., let alone maybe some functioning issues..

I hit the submit button same time as Jocko again. He speaketh the truth.
The recoil spring will definitely loosen up shooting. Mine was very hard to rack at first and many unknowing people had recommened against the PM45 because it was so hard to rack. Mine is not easy but it's way easier to rack and didn't take all that much shooting either. I suspect wearing in a bit as well as the new spring breaking in all contributed.
Wolfe doesn't offer much for the PM45 yet but I suspect they will before long.
I would not personally cut coils myself, the folks at Kahr designed that spring length and strength for a reason and got alot more study in it than I ever will. I would not hesitate to cut a spring that I knew had too many coils and was told where to cut.
Just my opinion.

Agree Jocko. Any semi with such a short travel will have to have a strong spring to be reliable. When I sent mine back for a warranty cosmetic repair, they replaced the assy even though it had never been shot. I now have close to 500 rounds without a hiccup of any kind. Evidently they want the spring to remain stiff, although I've never had a problem racking it.

Although not Kahr related ... I had a P238 that seemed extremely stiff from the get go.
I kept it racked for about 24 hrs, then closed the slide. Loosened it up quite a bit.
If its a bit stiff, give that a shot :)

The spring will loosen up with shooting, and Wolfe does not offer the springs for the PM45 yet. I called them before ordering from Kahr. I was told they hope to get some development work done early next year, but for now they are covered up filling orders.
