Hello all.

Does anyone know the official answer as to whether polymer frame Kahrs have magazines that are designed to be 'drop free?'

My CW does not fully eject magazines. The magazine drops about 1/2 to 1 inch, and must be manually pulled from the magazine well.

Thanks for any replies.

that is all y PM9 ever did, Can't really say it bothers me. Some have send their magazines back to kahr and received new ones that worked OK. YMMV.

The 7-round mag for my new PM9 drops free, but the 6-round only drops about 3/8". I got two new 6-round mags today that also stick. I just sent the 6-round mags back to Kahr for replacement. If that doesn't work, the gun has to go back.

I measured the mags. The 6-round mags are just slightly larger both side-to-side and front-to-rear, probably just enough to make a difference.

I've noted similar incidences both on this forum and elsewhere, and have read the responses about whether or not it is important. Admittedly I do own other pocket pistols that do the same thing (i.e. Seecamp). I don't mind it on a back-up gun, but a main carry gun should allow you to facilitate combat mag changes by dropping the unloaded mag to the ground.

As part of their carry packages, Cylinder & Slide reworks the mag well so the mags drop free, so I know it can be done.

Otherwise I do have to reaffirm that I really like my PM9. It seems of great quality, shoots well, moderates recoil, it's mechanisms are ingenious, and it really doesn't take any longer to reload than my trusty J-frame back-up.

I wonder why we see so many mag well cut outs in other guns, if the magazines dropped freely. I would think there would be no need for the cut outs. I took my trusty dremel and put cutouts in my PM9. I really don't feel I am any slower than other people but again I don't carry a spare mag either, so it is a mute point with me and IMO more of a personal preference. I do think any issues are mag related over the gun itself and it seems hit and miss for mags to work or not to work. Unless kahr picks up the send back which I am not sure they will under those circumstances, it is very expensive fix.

No tdefending kahr on this either as some do drop and some do not but no where in the manual does it state a magazine should drop freely, actually it states in there that when you hit the mag rlease button, then pull the magazine out of the gun.

I personaly am happy with a partial mag extraction as any accidental hit of the mag release button doesn't send my magazine all over hells half acre. Course a good ol choclate mile shake also makes me happy to.

Never have problems with my PM40 or P45, they drop free!

Out of 4 mags for my CW9 C only 1 would drop free. I took stickyback 320 grit sandpapper and stuck it to one side and ran it in and out a few times then switched it to the other side and did the same. All mags now drop free. You're not taking much off but just a little relief.

On my P380, the pressure from the mag catch kind of holds the mag in place when partially inserted. Are you releasing the button right away or keeping it pressed? The magwells are polymer with no extra wear strips, so I think I'd accept the initial tightness hoping they wear in as you go.

When I got my PM9 the 7 round mag dropped free but the 6'er would only pop out about an inch and get stuck. I sent it back to Kahr and they replaced it. When I first got it I tried it out and it only came out about an inch too. I decided to take it to the range and shoot anyway and after one magazine it slid all the way out when I pressed the release button. Shocked me at first because I wasn't expecting it. Still working well for me. Thanks Kahr!
