Kahr does this quite abit,, If u see the U you have a factory refurbished gun. not necessarily a "test writers" gun but a gun that at first did not make the grade to be shipped out , or a gun that was tested in house etc. Normally they are just like new to, but you don't have a warranty with these "U" guns Idon't buy the pick of the liter stuff that writers get to pick teir gun. They do not, The gun makers send the guns to them for the testing, now to me it would make good sense to send this writer the best of the best but as we know some of the gun tests we read are not bery good for the gun being tested.

I would think if I was going to send one of my guns to a test writer that I would have first shot thegun in house for a few thousand rounds to get it broken it, tnen recleaned and lubed it and then shiped it tothe writer. Not the case..

A kahr that did not pass visual inpsection such as light stamping area, possable more machine marks etc, is commonly sold with a U on it also. A new gun, never sold never tested but blemished but not worth destroying..

The Kahr web site also explains the "U" guns in the FAQ section.

I'd also mention the "Blemished" guns that Kahr sells. These come with a label clearly marked BLEM. These guns have some cosmetic flaw and are sold at a reduced price, and with both mags. My blemished K9 has been great and is one purchase that I consider as one of my all time best buys. The blemished guns however do not carry the "U" marking, but rather have a "B" stamped on the frame.

edit; I have pics of the blemished K9 in my album. If anyone can find the flaw... I'll give them a cookie.

Well it's news to me, and thanks for the clarifications.

It's good to bring up stuff like this for us Kahr newbs, even though it's common knowledge to the Kahr divoted.
