I just bought a used MK9 on gunbroker.com. I think I got a pretty good deal. From the pictures it looks in great shape. I paid $410.00 for it. What do you think?

I'm keeping that offer on file. Like I said I haven't received it yet. So I may have to take you up on that offer. I'll post pics when I get it. Really looking forward to shooting it.

I can't see it from the pics and maybe you're right, I guess I'll find out when I get it.

The first pic almost looks phillips but the others look allen head to me. LIke with the light reflecting off them funny.
Guess we'll see when it gets here. It looks good and I'll bet we can make it work no matter how it shows up.

I agree, they do look like allen heads.
Though it wasn't enough for definitive use in this thread, an excellent "add on" for Firefox is Image Zoom:
Image Zoom - Version 0.4.4 (http://imagezoom.yellowgorilla.net/archives/version_044.php)
It allows you to scroll zoom images with the right mouse button and mouse wheel.

I talked to the seller today and he confirmed that they are hex head screws. He said the gun had them on it when he bought it from the original owner. He wasn't aware of any problem with the grips.....maybe the original owner liked them better? He told me he was selling the gun because he's been out of work and needs the money. He's also including a stainless guide rod which he hasn't installed yet.

This just gets better and better. Many just like the looks of the allen screws and lots of people are out of work so could all be true.
I guess my eyes are ok after all.

hmmmmm....that could indicate bad news, or really good news....I'm betting it's the good news
The bad side of the equation is that the seller may have shot the crap out of the gun and was just too lazy, or hygenically apathetic to do proper cleaning and lube....which would make installation of the guide rod a zero effort.
The good side would be that the guy shot it very little, never really quite figured out how to field strip it, so hasn't gone through all the major effort it would take to gunsmith the installation of a guide rod (hopefully this is the case)
If it turns out to be the latter (good), then what ever would have caused him to acquire a new stainless guide rod anyway?
For a bit over $400, I'd bet anything that could possibly need replacing (other than a damaged frame) could still keep the cost down to under $550, if it does in fact need parts. The fact that he has a new stainless guide rod thrown into the deal still makes me a bit cautious.
I'm hoping it's perfect on arrival. I love to hear about happy endings, or beginnings:)

My read on this deal is the guy wasn't a real gun guy. Probably hardly shot it. Didn't know enough to install the guide rod but bought one cause he heard they were the thing to do. Desparate for cash, looking for a fast sell. Hard to tell on the original owners actions since he apparently installed the aftermarket grip screws he might have shot it.
It looks pretty clean in the pictures.
Just like you say, even if theres a few issues I think the deal is still good.

yeah... I'm just envious :D
I had my heart set on an MK9 a couple of years ago, but just couldn't part with the $700 to order one (best deal I could find at the time)... besides I had never handled one, nor even seen one. Now, after a year+ of carrying my CW9, I still really want the MK. The CW9 has been, and is a perfect ccw, and flawless for over 800 rounds (low round count for me), but I just love stainless bodies with black accents.

I have a hankering for an MK also. I just wish they made one in 45. We have an MK9 floating around the dept for all to enjoy from time to time, I get for fitting handles now and then. Its a dandy size sweet little gun.
Maybe we can get a 2 fer discount or something.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.....The guy sounded sincere. There's always a chance of a problem when you buy used, but I'm with surveyor, I didn't want to spend the money needed to buy new. I also think he wasn't sure how to replace the guide rod, I think he thought it would be cool to have it in the gun.
