Well, I've finally done it, I bought a PM40 tonight! It's a new to me used PM40 with serial WAxxxx. Pictures to follow. I went to my LGS after finding out that they have a couple of used Kahr PM40s listed in their used gun list. I asked if I could take a look at the used PM40s and found that there was one that was DLC coated and regular matte stainless. The DLC was $599 and matte stainless was $499.
They both looked to be in great shape. I'm more of a fan of the look of stainless so I looked more closely to the matte model. I was pleasantly surprised. It looked as if there wasn't many rounds(less than 400?) run through the gun. There weren't many rubbing marks on the barrel or guide rod. The inner plunger of the guide rod assembly was still wet with lube. The slide felt smooth when racking it and the trigger reset as it should. I asked the guy helping me if I could field strip it to see the internals and he said yes. Upon take down, I noticed that the guide rod assembly was the half inch version :D which made me very happy since I knew there was a good chance that it is a 2009-2010 model year gun.
The PM40 seemed flawless, as it didn't show any abnormal wear marks or peeking of the barrel. The slide stop lever was actually a tight fit(my P40s slide stop lever is easily removable from it's hole in the frame) and I had a bit of difficulty taking taking it out. I actually got my jacket sleeve stuck between the slide and frame haha. So after checking it out, I told him Ill take it. They wouldn't go down in price but I think I still got a good deal on it. The new ones go for $739 new and I had tried to get him to bring it down. He wouldn't. I then filled out the paperwork for the used matte stainless PM40. Thirty or so minutes later, I had my new to me PM40 in my hands and out the door :) they gave me a case, although not the original(that's ok) and a free trigger lock. The gun came with both the flush five round and ext grip six round magazines. Both eject under their own weight easily.
So far, I'm very happy with my purchase. I can't wait to take it to the range for the first time. I may go this upcoming thursday since it's concealed carry permit day and I get the range fee waived so that I can save $8. Ammunition there is $22.95 a box and you have to use their's.
I'll post up a range report and target pictures when I go. It may be this week or next month, I don't know for sure yet. They do have some cool zombie targets there. I shot up one during the last visit. I'll post it up when I get a chance. I'll also report how much of a difference there is in felt recoil in comparison to the bigger P40 as I'll be bringing both with me. I'm sure I'll be ok though. I've already switched over the CT laser grip. Now the grip looks even smaller :2eek:

One more thing, it has standard sights. I plan on going with either meprolight night sights or XS standard or big dot. Does anyone have issues with the big dot snagging when using a crossbreed super or mini tuck? I have the mini version. Thanks!

used and maybe broken in OK, you might want to look at these two great threads. The Kahr lube chart and the Propper prepping of your new kahr. Both will help any gun run right. both in the kahrh tech section
Nice gun, give us a good report and remember this is one recoiling little pocket rocket so keep a good grip and don't over due your first range session as one gets tired and doesn't know it and then things start to happen that is not the guns fault.
forget agbout the sight stuff until you yourself have a few hundred flawless rounds down range, then go to um. I like the big dots and can't see why they should snag either...

Congrats on your purchase of a PM40. I love mine. I have the night sights and CTL....love them too. I carry it and dry fire practice with it for at least 5 minutes every day. If you dry fire practice, the recoil or flip will be nothing, so don't let the guys convince you otherwise. It is a real pleasure to shoot. Get used to it by fondling it....see the Daily 5 Minute Dry Fire Practice thread and work with it routinely. I have no experience with the holsters or sights you referred to. You are going to be happy you got the 40.

Jocko: Thanks! I'll do the prep and lubing either tonight or tomorrow depending on it i have time. I'll let everyone now how the first range visit goes. I'll try my best to hold on!
garyb: Thanks! I did enjoy the nights sights and CT lasergrip on my P40. I've decided to go with the big dot and send the slide in to Kahr for a proper install. I've read many horror stories about people trying to domit themselves and end up costng them more in the end due to slide cracking. I do have to tools to do it, but I haven't done a sight install before. There aren't many shops close by that are willing to install sights on a Kahr since they're a bit of a pain. I've started doing the dry fire practice today and enjoyed doing the exercises :D In regards tomthe holster and snagging, I've read a thread or two that said that there's an issue with snagging while holstering it in a CrossBreed super or mini tuck. Which holster do you have by the way?
Dietrich: Thanks! I was hoping that I bought it for a good price. I love the PM series as well and love mine so far. I've carried it in my minituck to see how it feels and the difference between the P40 and PM40 is pretty noticeable. It feels alot lighter and is more easily concealed on me. I wear it at the 3:30 positin and it doesnt print much at all in a slightly loose fitting t-shirt. I'm happy about that. I cant't wait to try pocket carry.

This video on YouTube sold me on getting another 40. You'll see why. I know, shot placement matters the most, but I do like having the extra fire power. The best thing that I can do is train, train, and train some more.

A zombie target that I shot during my last range visit two Thursdays ago. It was with my P40. Some of the shots were rapid fire using the CT laser and some were decent speed shots using the Meprolight sights.

Looks a bit like my mother in law, may she rest in peace anywhere but around me.
I can't believe I wrote that, I'm going down for that one for sure. I just know it.
Listen to garyb too, that recoil ain't nothing to get worked up about. I suggest wearing a welders glove with a ski glove over the top, a full face shield, and a helmet if you got one, kevlar is your friend. It's hardly noticeable really.
I sometimes have to check and see if my K40 went off or not, don't want to stack bullets in the barrel after a squib ya know.
If you believe any of this (except the part about the mother in law, thats true) you haven't been around here long enough yet.

Went to the range today and fired about 115 rounds with some mishaps. First, the slide failed to lock back on the last round of the flush five round mag. Then, the five round mag started stove piping the Winchester PDX-1s that I retired from my carry mags. During loading of the five rd mag the third or so time I noticed that the follower was cracked. I assumed that this is what was causing the sudden stove pipes. I also noticed that the striker marks on the primers were a tear drop shape(see pics) but I did research here when I got home and saw that it's normal.
I then took apart the ext grip six rd mag and swapped the followers. Swapping them helped with the stove pipes but I still had an issue with the slide not locking back with the five rd mag. The slide locked back ok with the six rd. The LGS that I bought it from has a 30 day warranty on their used guns so I figured that I would take it there after having some fun and quality time with my PM40. 70 or so rounds later, I left and went to the LGS after confirming that they'll help me out and take a look at it when I arrive.
Around 8:17(I thought some would like to know specifics haha) I brought my unloaded PM40 in for them to take a look. I explained the situation to him and showed him what it was doing. He went to the back to find his manager and about five minutes later, he comes back with a new ext grip mag :D and tells me that that is all he's able to give me for the mag problem and also let me choose a free box of ammo! I grabbed a box of Federal American Eagle 165 Gr FMJ(same as what I used at the range). He told me to try the mag out and see how it does and if it still gives me issues to bring it back within 30 days. The new mag did help with the fail to lock back issue.
I returned home and disassembled the gun and found that the slide lock lever spring was bent! I'm sure that I had accidentally bent it while doing the prep and lube. I bent it back to the correct shape and re-inserted it. I tried the original five rd mag and it locked back as it should. Great! I didn't think about the spring screwing up the lock back like that and neither did the people at the LGS. I then swapped out the follower with another mag that I do not use because the spring is weakened. Now all of my carry mags work like a charm. I'll be going back to the range in a couple or few weeks.
I'm glad that I troubleshooted and solved issues with my Kahrs again as sending them off to Kahr would mean separation from them for about a week or two :(
I was hoping that I would get the issues resolved as I plan to carry the PM. I'm glad I did. Now I feel confident enough to carry it in my IWB minituck. Desantis Superfly is on the way! Can't wait!

I wasn't going for all out accuracy, mainly fun and mating it to myself. It was fun aside from the malfunctions. I had one failure to fire in the 115 or so rounds used. Three or four stove pipes due to a broken mag follower. The six rd mag worked flawlessly. So far I love my PM40 and do agree that it isn't all that bad. Just make sure that you have a good grip on it. I forgot to try one handed firing this time. I'll try to remember next time. I had installed the CT lasergrip for the first range visit and the targets are in order from left to right. I alternated between the iron sights and laser. I was better with the laser in follow up shots since less focus is needed. I'll practice more with the iron sights. The Winchester PDX-1s feel like and probably are hotter rounds than the FMJ target ammo. They're both 165 grain. I'm not sure whether the PDX is +P or not. I chose 165 grain FMJ for lower recoil than 180 grain.
I also did the bicycle inner tube grip cover to the PM40. It helps me get a better grip and it isn't sharp like the factory stippling.

I found out at the range last night that they're willing to install sights on Kahrs for about fifteen dollars! I'll definitely get them to do it when the time comes. I'll be getting the big dots sometime early next year. Maybe I'll get money from Mr. Clause :D
