that is what happened, as I have learned as a long time poster on this forum and on some others even, that if you come on these forums with your feelings on the tip of your fingers, you willnot last long. One needs to count to 10 if possable and if that doesn'thappen, just back off for a few days. These are good forums normally but every once in awhile a real troll appears and wants to stir sh-t. you jsut gotta look past that person and hope the forum MODS are watching and doing their job.
he may be back someday, one never knows. Life does go on to. I was a 5000+ poster on the kt forum and when I left it, I think they missed me "maybe" ONE DAY..

I for one still miss him, be that as it may and I certainly wouldn't use the word troll and ryoung in the same sentence.
Thru a series of circumstances he decided to move on, I say we just let it lie, hope he comes back one day with some fresh funnies and we all move on.
Don't want this to ferment and start to boil over and instigate discord and stuff.

not sure I even referred to ryoung as a troll even, as that was not my point. I nver had one issue with him and we PM-ed a few times . I probably would not have known he was even gone had threads not popped up about him missing in action.

He posted a very sincere goodbye, and of course some folks had to throw some crap at him for leaving, so the moderator closed that thread. I respected his opinions and am sorry he is gone.

Jocko, you are correct, but sometimes you just have to step away. I don't know any facts of this particular riff, but I was on a forum concerning Harleys a couple of yrs ago. It was great at first, but then certain " new to the forum" members started laying in wait for post they didn't like and would jump in and mercilessly attack whoever posted. Sometimes it was a new member who didn't know that his question had been asked many times before.
Instead of helping him, he was just attacked. I finally got tired of it, and just left. I think others did too.

Typical AR15.com... If you don't have a zillion posts and a join date older than three years? Expect to be called a noob/troll.
Yeah, riiiiiight... Someone is SO much cooler because they've wasted that much more of their lives on some stupid internet forum and have garnered quite a superiority complex about it...

As long as I have the slightest influence in matters around here (and I have very little) you can be assured no new guys will be mercilessly attacked or put down.
We have to realize that part of a growing forum is new members all the time. Many of the things we've talked about have been talked about a 100 times already. How much is there to talk about when you get down to it.
To me thats why we have to step outside the box now and then and chat about other stuff while still helping new gun people and people new to Kahr, and Auto Ordnance, Thompson and now MRI.
Nobody here has all the answers but as a group I'd bet we're a force to be reckoned with.
In my experience we have more trouble with new guys coming on board and whining because we get off topic or don't stay totally serious like some of the other forums. Some I understand are frustrated, they have a gun issue so they come here for answers and maybe get joked with or don't get a quick response. Once they get an answer they just drift. That's ok too. I don't visit other forums unless I'm sent there via a link for info or whatever. Don't belong to any others, nor do I feel the need to join any others, although there are a few that sound interesting.
I feel very fortunate that JohnH and JustinN give us a certain amount of free reign and allow us to operate outside the box if you will.
All in all we're a pretty civil and friendly bunch. Things rarely get out of hand or downright ugly and hopefully we can keep it that way.
We were all new guys once and even the guys that have been here since inception learn from new guys. About the time you think you have all the answers, they change the dang questions anyhow. Keeps us guessing.
I like to think we're a step above just any ordinary "stupid internet forum", I know we're several step above many others, people have told me so.
Like momma says stupid is as stupid does, or some such thing.

it is also part of all internet forums. You have some who because of high post counts think they own it and some who just come to stir things to. I have seen um both, I can't explain why some people do what they do but we are all different in our thoughts and the way we transfer our thoughts in writing. I have always hated it to when a new guiy comes on and ask a question and is told, "do the search fella this post has been discussed a hundred times". Personaly I have never used the "search", maybe I should but I bet 90% of members don't use the "search" and I do feel it is perfectly ok to re ask a question, as who knows we might get a new different answer than was given a month or so ago.
Some people wear their feelings on the tip of their fingers to and get set off very easily. I really don't think any forum person intends that to happen but once the fuse is lite, then it seems the MODS have to solve it.
It is just gonna happen, we can't get away from some of this either. I have learned over the years "from posting alot and getting hammered also," that if you aren't prepared to take some heat, then don't get close to the oven..
It is far easier for me now to just read a post and if it pissies me off, I just ignore it and that poster for ever. If we all did this to, normally that person either settles down or just moves on. But as we know and read, we all react differetnly to an "incorrect" post.
I have been on the AR15 site in the kahr section and those guys for me were good guys to, I just went with forum from the git go and for me it is the best. We do seem to try to amuse each other along with trying to help a person to. I thought I knew quite abit about kahrs but this forum has shown me that I still have alot to learn.
I really do feel we have some brilliant guys here. I have pm-ed ryoung a few times and we chatted and he seemed like an ok guy to me. I must have missed where he got alittle bent out of shape and decided to move on. I thought also his leaving was dignified and the mods replys were also that way. Who knows maybe he will come back, as I have a feeling he is reading this forum yet and knows that no one meant any real harm either.
Probalby 35+ years ago, I might have been called a Ryoung to, as I back then worn my feelings on the tips of my fingers, today though my fingertips are very calised from all that crap and I tend to let some things just pass---especially on the internet.
Now though, please don't make fun of my Harley's or Harley Davidsons, as that has been known to rip the calises right off my fingers .!!!!

I find communication via these "flat screens" is more difficult that face to face conversation. There is no tone of voice or facial expression to help you discern meaning of words written. That is the primary reason I make use of the smiley's to help with my intent when I post. :D
I am not familiar with the thread that got to ry but I thought his exit from kahrtalk was well written. I also thought some of the reply posts were pretty classless but again, it is hard to discern sarcasim on a flat screen.
I say he'll be back to show off his next Kahr purchase. I certainly hope so anyway. Dusty

If the day ever comes when attacking a new member for asking a redundant question is tolerated it will be time for me to say adios.I feel that our main objective here is to pass on solid information concerning firearms,Kahrs in particular. Back before I ever purchased a Glock,I researched them extensively.I kept coming across the "Glock Kaboom" issue and went on their forum to ask about it.I was immediately attacked by a couple of their sphincter police and I responded in kind. Finally, one of their more sensible members chastised them for their actions and welcomed me to the forum and answered my question.I like my Glock handguns but I still don`t care for their forum. What we have here is a much more helpful and friendly atmosphere.I hope we never lose it.

Well I'm a new guy and I can't tell you how much I value this site and all of your advice and comments. I've only been serious about shooting for about nine months. My first pistol was a used MK9 which will always be my "first love". You all know what it means to be a "Kahr nut" and sometimes it's just hard to go slow and easy when you know nothing:target:
Years age I was invited to go on an annual fishing trip with a bunch of guys and the first thing they said to me was, "if you can't take it don't come" we all took it and fished together for about 25 years.
I can get nuts when I don't even know the right questions to ask!
Now that I've got a P380 and my new PM45 I've tripled my unknown questions
Thanks to all of you, it's been a good year.
Merry Christmas!

I am in total agreement with Bawanna and Jocko. Although I still think the major focus should be the operation of Kahr pistols, I also enjoy it when we get off point, and just have a good time. I hope that never goes away. I still consider KahrTalk the most entertaining of all the firearms forums.
BTW Jocko, even though I ride a CBR, I'll never say anything bad about your Harley.:D

This is a very good assesment of how I feel as well. I have been a member of a couple motorcycle sites and am a moderator on the one I continue to belong to. the others all get so pissy and remind me of virtual High school....DRAMA. The one I belong to is not large but the guys and gals there all know eachothers ways and are very happy to have the site to go to. this is one of the 2 best gun sites on the web if you ask me.

I think this site is tops. Great info, entertainment, and yes a little controversy now and then. Anything I've ever written was never meant to offend anyone. I am just giving my opinion or experience on given topics. I don't think anything should be changed on this forum. If we get off topic, that's the way an in person conversation could turn and it's normal. There are some very talented writers on this site and I appreciate their talent, intellect, (that's smarts Bawanna), and sense of humor (Wynn). Thanks guys and gals for making this the best gun site, bar none.

Dang! Now you done it! It's the other way around... er, okay, maybe a little of both.:p
Hopefully, after the holidays, I can get more active here again. I need to go shoot my Kahrs, too... and my S&W .45. Wifey's off tomorrow evening and she'll be shopping early. I need to clean up the "dining room" where the tree is and get ready for opening presents. There's a love seat in there and I've been throwing stuff on it when I have to clear my hobby table/dining table for meals. The "stuff" has overflowed and it's starting to look like one of those hoarders' rooms... <sigh>. I don't know where I'm going to put all of that stuff, but I need to get after it. If I have to leave while Wifey's off, she might clean it herself!

I chuckle thinking about the questions I've asked, and some of the dumb things I've said. My son and his family consider me "interesting" sometimes but know my heart is full of love although sometimes my brain is full of stinky poo. Anyway, my friends here were very patient with me and we got through it. Now you have me starting the reloading thing and a whole new set of questions.
I have been on boards since before color monitors and have seen the dangest wars imaginable. This before forum monitors who lock threads so they simply ran their course - so much for self-regulation (messy, very messy). I haven't seen anything close around here but am familiar with being an outsider on an insider run forum. This ain't it!
The only thing missing here are more women regulars. I visit GlockTalk which has several women regulars. The tone is different there like comparing sitting around a kitchen table to sitting around a work shop or man cave. But then I really don't care to know about "Dating hints Needed" (a current topic) or such.
Nope this is home, keep the fire going, it's cold out there.

Truth be told I was engaged to all of em. Miss Zena, Miss MX5Fan, and not to brag but I've proposed to RD2K and she accepted as well. I'd let em off the hook if they would come back. Maybe they got cold feet.

Yeah, I really liked that one and the one about the two wolves and the lamb discussing lunch. :D
Wifey just left for work and now I can goof off a bit, though the laundry pile is getting too big... might have to tackle that.
My best score for Christmas... well, besides my wife getting Christmas Eve off, was getting a good deal at Lowe's on one of those Keurig single-cup coffee makers. With 20% off and then my 10% military discount, I got the Elite model... just above the "personal" one that has no reservoir, using the money from my In-Laws... under $84 out the door and I had enough left over for one of the use-your-own-coffee filters at Wally World. I really "needed" one of these. I just ordered a bunch of coffee and included some De-Caf as well, 'cause I'll be "playing" with it a lot... and at night... handy for a quick cup.

I never tried any eggshells... I use a pinch of salt which seems to soften the taste a bit, but I/WE like strong coffee. We use four 1/4 cup scoops for a 12(x5 oz.) cup pot of coffee... with cone filter. The finer ground coffee causes overflows on those "flat" filters.
The scoops aren't smoothed flat and my wife STILL complains it's too weak! I hate to let HER make the coffee. Nobody will ever drink our coffee. They know it's stout. We don't like "tea"... the weak stuff you can see through.:D
I think the first time I heard about using eggshells was on the Gunsmoke TV show... when Fester(?) was making the coffee. I think it was TV... I listened to it on radio before it hit TV.

just hrown the coffee grounds in a pot boil the pi-s out of it drink it like there was no tomorrow with a shot of whatever bends your crank in it. Went hunting with the natives when I was stationed in Arkansas - great folks back there. We went to a huntin cabin with an old oil drum type stove in the middle of the room and a flat plate welded on top for cookin.
On the only shelf was a 5 gal square tin of molasses that was hard as a brick. They put it on the flat plate to make it liquid again then boiled up a big pot of coffee (I think that's what it was). Whatever it was with a healthy shot of molasses turned into a decent cup a joe. Found out that tin has been there at least 6 or 7 years. Good stuff that molasses.

I tasted starbucks once at the hospital.... what was it.... $3.00 for a cup of that stuff??? I made my way back to the waiting room in the surgical wing and made a pot of real coffee for free.
Actually, my favorite coffe was my grandparents style made in a little aluminum 4 cup drip pot.... as soon as the first pot was served, another would be started immediately....only real coffee drinkers would ask for seconds. You could stand a spoon up in that lovely aroma elixer. I have the pot, but no way I can make it taste the same without the water they had.
Dang.... you people just keep sucking the memories of happier times outa those dark crevices in my head

oh my surveyor, my parents used that type of "dripolater" for years. It made the best coffee IMO.
How about you guys can u remember the ol percolater with the glass knob in the top while the coffee was "perking" it will jump up in that glass know and when it finally didn't do that anymore, the coffee was done.
And they say we weren't modern back 50 years ago. Foke um!!
course Bawanna still makes coffee that way!!!! I bet you guys did not know that Bawanna for years was a lonesome sheepherfer in the hills of Idaho , who carved on his boring times with the "sheep" airplanes on aspen trees. My son brought me back a pound of that coffee from Hiwaryer a few years ago...it's o.k., but just not right for coffee. There's just been nothing like the old Maryland Club or Folgers that came in the old steel cans with the "key" opener, and throw in a handful of the Community House (the original "real" stuff with chikory), drip it and let it steep for a few minutes after it's done dripping..... depending on your water chemistry, either a dash of salt, or the crushed egg shells to make the water "just right".
Yep, we still use the 12 cup percolator at Mom's house when there's more than two of us drinking coffee.... all metal construction, including the basket, and NO paper filters. I do still have a 40 cup percolator, all metal, but rarely have occassion to use it. Nowdays, seems like the coffee makers all have plastic baskets, paper filters, plastic everything just about. Sure makes coffee taste nasty. Hell.... I'm gonna go get PaPaw's coffee pot out of his old home made china cabinet in my kitchen and drip some coffe the right way tomorrow. Cajun style:D

Bawanna.... I was trying to divert the conversation back to coffee and away from the livestock thing... just trying to cover your six;)

Thanks for your efforts, I can never have enough guys covering my six. I never thought of them as livestock but now that you mention it and looking back I guess the description does fit.

I get Starbucks coffee when on the road, but it's their inexpensive regular brewed stuff. Keeps you awake but not because of the price. Around here I buy the Costco Kirkland brand of "Roasted by Starbucks" Colombian coffee, 3lbs for $8 and it's good.

Starbucks is okay for regular coffee and you can add all the sugar and half and half that you want, including my favorite... Raw Sugar. McDonald's coffee isn't bad and cost about the same, but they tightly control the condiments. When I get a 16 ounce cup and the cashier asks what I want put in it or how much of those things do I want, it sucks. I ask for 8 sugars and a shot of milk or whatever white liquid they're using. Then I get handed 8 tiny bags of white sugar which seem to hold half a teaspoon each and I have to keep asking for more... standing there at the counter in the way of other customers.
At home I can put 3 heaping teaspoons of Raw Sugar and a teaspoon of CoffeeMate into my 11-ounce mug and it's just right. It's a lot of trouble at McDonald's to get it close enough for me. Last trip, we had our own condiments and I just used them in the van... much better, and we had a real f***ing spoon to stir it with... or with which to stir it. :D
Don't you just love trying to stir your hot beverage with a tiny plastic semi-straw thingy that gets soft and swishes without moving much liquid.
It's good that we don't travel that much.
When we do travel, we take a 12-cup cone-filter drip coffee maker and everything else to make our stout coffee, including distilled water... never have to descale the coffeemaker and we don't get all the chemicals and crap allowed in the local water. My tolerance for harmful toxins and crap is ZERO.
End of rant.

Then why not simply ask for a spoon? They serve hot fudge sundaes and such, ya know, so they have them... ;)

You seriously didn't realize McD's has plastic spoons? :19:

I know they have them, but they don't offer them for coffee stirrers. They tightly control all of the condiments and utensils... cuts down costs. :)

They do??? I have never been turned down for a single thing for which I asked. I keep several of their plastic wrapped utensil sets that come with a napkin and salt/pepper packets in my car for traveling. Come in really handy when camping, too. I also have a ton of their hot salsa packets and I'll usually ask for a couple, regardless of what I order. :target:
I'm still here, Bawanna hasn't runnoft ALL the wimmen folk yet.
and as for my coffee, I prefer "Duck Coffee". What is "Duck Coffee"? Glad you asked.
"Stick a grain of coffee in a duck's a$$ and send it across the pond".
A phrase coined by my uncle, who likes his coffee a little stronger than I.

Gosh! I surely don't want a rep for running people off. Have I run anybody off? I try to add too not take away.
I like to think if I ever run anybody off they'd sorely deserve to be run off and everyone would agree with me but since I ain't never done it I got nothing to go on. Yet.

We gotta think up a good name for RD2K, TD2K I can never remember and it's disrespectful to mislabel.
Whats TD2K stand for, maybe we can go long hand.
Lets hear some ideas here, we'll run em by our resident finer side and see if we find a good fit.
Whats TD2K stand for, maybe we can go long hand.
It's a handle I use on a few Oklahoma Sooner message boards. I was the mascot when I was in school there, called "Top Daug". My first handle was "TopDaugIn2000" and they all shortened it to TD2K. It stuck. :D Kinda silly, but on an OU board, I'm instantly loved. :p

sadly, the athletic director did away with the most awesome Top Daug a few years ago, and brought in the much hated ridiculous looking "Horse Pigs". *Sigh*

Maybe that'll help, if I remember top dog, I won't always write RD2K instead of TD2k. Maybe I can make this work
I gotta get me a handle whereby I'm instantly loved.
