Hello i am new to the forum. I have just purchased a cw40 and had it to the range twice now for the break in. My first trip i put 100 rounds through it and the only issues i had were the slide not going into full battery, gave it a slight shot with my hand and she was good for a few more rounds then the same thing. So I brought it home, dissassembled it and and cleaned and lubed it. I returned to the range last night hoping to put another 100 rounds through it, when i had the same issue again. I worked around that for a while and thats when i had the slide lock on me. It was in the forward position with a round chambered but the gun would not fire, so i tried to rack the slide and it was jammed, would not move a half inch! I had to pry between the barrel and slide slightly with a flat screwdriver while moving the slide back and forth (as much as it would move). So it let loose and i cleared the round which had a slight gauge on the casing, and reloaded the gun. It fired about 20 rounds fine the it jammed forward again, same thing as before gun wouldnt fire and slide wouldnt rack. I was shooting ulteramax crn lead ammo (due to indoor range restrictions on jacketed bullets) and was thinking maybe it was a product of this type of ammo that my kahr was not happy with? I have numerous pistols and think i am a competent guy but i have never had a gun lock forward like this.
Has anyone experienced this type of thing before?
Thanks, Chad

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your new pistol.
I sorry to hear you are having issue with it. My first suggestion would be to eliminate a variable by trying different ammo in it. When my Cw45 was new, I had some factory ammo on hand that it was loathe to feed (not going fully into battery, much as you describe). This ammo was also difficult to eject if unfired; the slide was very hard to rack, almost to the point of being stuck.
Another thought: if you are using oil to lubricate, I would change to grease for lube points/steps 1, 4, 5, and 10 of this diagram: http://media.photobucket.com/image/Kahr%20Lube%20Diagram/Michigun/Kahr/KahrLubePoints.jpg

Sure sounds like ammo to me. If it's stuck forward its almost gotta be too long and the bullets are getting stuck in the rifling. If the bullets were jacketed you'd probably not be able to get it open with the method you describe.
First time I've heard of a range not allowing jacketed bullets. Ours are all the opposite, don't allow lead.
Try one of your rounds with the barrel out. Just drop it in the barrel and push it down with your finger. Turn the barrel chamber end down and the cartridge should just fall out with ease. If it don't the bullets too long or the case is oversized or I doubt it but perhaps a tight chamber.
Let us know how this shakes out.

for sure try different FMJ ammo, I would tend to agree witht he above two comments. Different ammo will prove that theory out. Shoot good fmj ammo, not lead stuff for the break in procedure. Don't blame the gun yet when it could possable be the ammo..

I am currently using oil for lubricating, i will try grease as described. The range i belong to restricts jacketed ammo over 380. It is a member/law enforcement joint range and the cops go in and shoot .40 all day long, but members have the jacketed restrictions. I am going to a different range tomorrow with some fmj ammo to compare. I tried what bawanna recommended and the Ultramax ammo does extend out further when chambered than Wolf fmj or Hornaday jhp ammo. thanks for the advice.

I gota vote for the ammo. I have the same gun with 250 rounds through it and it has been perfect.
That reminds me. I haven't cleaned or re-lubed it since the 10 point pre-lube when it was new.. :D

referred to the kahr lube chrt and the propper prepping of your new kahr in the kahr tech section. Just might make that next trip a positive experience..

Just returned from a great range trip. I shot 200 rounds of wolf fmj and winchester jhp without one issue what so ever. The cw40 performed great but i still have not gotten used to the single dot rear sight. I am very happy with the gun.

Excellent. So it just didn't like that flavor of ammo and balked on ya. I'm not a big Wolf or Magtech fan but if it runs and it's cheap, let er buck.

gotta give some of these guys due credit for solving your issues. I think Bawanna hit the nail right on the ol head with the rounds being to long and therefore locking themselve sin the rifleing etc. Ol Bawanna is sharper than a dixie choper new in the box..:behindsofa:

A bit ironic that this exactly what I was doing do myself on my batch of Hornady XTP reloads. Just loading them a bit too long and tying up all my guns. I know better now than to have total faith in a manual, sometimes a bit of common sense still has to be factored in.
Sharper than a bowling pin might be more accurate but I'm glad the issues here were taken care of.
