he guys. i shot a pm40 at the range a yr or so ago and thought it was too jumpy. it was the first sub comp i fired. i have been using/carrying my g27 for about a yr now and would like a smaller daily ccw. the g27 is just too big for my clothing choice/body frame to conceal comfortably.

question: since im used to firing a smaller pistol now, dop you think i should try the pm40 again or go w/ the pm9?

is there that much recoil difference between the .40 and 9mm pm series pistols?

I would go with the PM9 just for the more affordable ammo difference. I don't find the .40's recoil to be that bad, but like the 9 better. I have the g26 & find it too big for CC carry.

Personally, I prefer the PM45 over both. I like making bigger holes, but it's slightly harder than the other PM's to pocket carry. If I wasn't totally committed to the 45 ACP, except for a gift LCP and a 9mm car gun, I might consider a PM40, and just shoot it until I got used to it.

My advice to you is, not to worry about what everyone else carries. It's your life on the line. Carry the one that you have the utmost confidence with, period. Jot down the pros/cons of each candidate and go from there. If cost of ammo is going to keep you from the range due to caliber, then get a caliber that will keep you at the range practicing. You and your ccw must spend a lot of range time together. Good luck.

I agree with everything that GOOFA said. I also feel that sticking with one caliber is a consideration. If you are going to shoot alot, it is worth reloading. I only makes sense that reloading one caliber will reduce hassles. 9's are cheaper to shoot, but if you are already reloading 40's or plan to do so, why switch to a 9????? If you are already used to the 40 in a small 27 Glock, you will feel very little difference between it and a PM40. I already did a side by side comparison with a friend and found them (G27 and PM40) to shoot with a very close feeling other than the trigger diffference. The Glock trigger is short and crisp compared to the LONNNNG but smooth trigger on the Kahr. Both my friend and I did the comparison and we both shot the PM40 with better accuracy and did this consistently. The difference in accuracy was clearly apparent. My PM40 has a CTL, so this may have made the difference. We both agreed that the PM40's compact size, made it much more "carryable". The PM40 was clearly more pocket carryable. When you compare the two guns side by side, you will appreciate the PM40's compact size. When you shoot the PM40, you will quickly develop a fondness for it.

I am divided on what to advise you on this. If you thought the 40 was too snappy, it probably still will feel that way. Mind you recoil is a matter of perception. When I was much younger, I wanted to like a 45, but could not handle the recoil having learned to shoot with a 9mm. One day I decided to get a 1911, and shoot 45 only until I had it mastered. It took a while as I was not rich enough to afford enough ammo for regular practice. At some point along the way, I discovered that the 45 did not seem to have much recoil and I was shooting well with my 1911. I had gotten used to it, and 9mm seemed very mild after that.

Since then I have been shooting a lot of 10mm as well as 45. Of course the 45 now seems quite mild. :)

So I would say do the PM9 if you want to stay with your current level of comfort. If you want to do the 40, spend some time getting used to it and the recoil should not bother you.

Hope that helps!

I'm not recoil sensitive, I'll shoot anything, but I really like my PM9 and that said-the more I shoot my CW9 the more I think I could sell the PM9 and be very happy with the CW9 for almost everything. In cold weather and more layers of clothing I would sometimes carry a G23 (.40cal) or a 1911 .45 but I'm getting used the the comfort of a single stack 9mm.
.40cal is fine but 9mm ain't no spitball either.

I agree 100% with GOOFA get what you feel good with not what you wish felt good too you. I carry the gun I have the most confidence in that I can still conceal adequately. I am most confident in my ability with my CZ SP-01 but I can't hide it and it weighs way too much to carry all day.

My CW9 is a very nice shooter accurate reliable hides easy and is built for my hand. I really like it,

I'd recommend you shoot the 9 and 40 side by side, especially since its been a year since you shot the 40. I love my PM9 and have total confidence it will do the job if I do mine. But I already had 9s so that is what I was comfortable with.
