So I had a gunbroker account in my wife's name since I wanted an Elite and she had an extra permit. Got it. Loved it. Ordered another. Forgot to change her name to mine on gunbroker so now FFL is doing unspeakable acts with my new toy while I sit in agony. Can seller or gunbroker fax changed name to FFL to fix this or do I have to wait like 3 weeks for my wife to apply for a new permit anyone have any experience with dumb mistakes like this one?

Wish I could help but we don't do no permit thing either. Around here your FFL is just the transfer point. He don't care who he transfers it too as long as the seller is paid. He's just doing the transfer paperwork.
I sure don't see why the seller couldn't call or fax your FFL and let him know your the true future owner, especially since your wife is the new owner in error so to speak.

If I'm not mistaken, you send a copy of your FFL's license and that's all they need. When your gun is delivered to your FFL, you go and pick it up. They should do all the paperwork pertinent to the person buying the gun. At least that's how it works in PA. If I wanted to buy a gun for a friend by using Gunbroker ( because he doesn't have an account) I just win the bid, send them the local FFL, and they ship the gun to our local FFL. Then my friend goes in and does the paperwork and he goes home with the gun.

I guess it's different here in NC once it gets to FFL it already has a buyers name attached to it and that person has to be the purchaser with a valid permit. Takes a couple weeks to get one here and I was at the store to get my new friend when the traumatic blow was struck.

I don't understand, you have to have a permit to buy a handgun? If I don't carry it, I still need a permit to have it at my home? That's ridiculous.

You have to have a permit to purchase, but not own. If I wanted to go to the local gunshop and buy a pistol, I would have to show give them a paper permit that I paid $5 (from the local sherrif) for and hand it over. You can get a maximum of 5 at one time (visit to the office, I think you can go an unlimited amount of times). If you have your CHP, then you do not need the permit; your CHP is used in lieu of a paper permit.
My Dad can give me one of his old guns and I do not need a permit or license as long as you are twenty one or older (for pistol); or you could move to the state with weapons already in your aresenal. But in order to purchase from a NC store or NC resident, you must have a valid permit or CHP.
OP, what city are you in? I would assume that as long as you have a valid permit or CHP, there wouldn't be an issue with picking up the weapon. It isn't like it is a straw purchase...

In Wilmington. It's not the end of the world I can have my wife get in in her name I guess in a few weeks but I was hoping someone had this same issue and gunbroker or the seller was able to fix quickly. The FFL has refused the transfer despite the fact that I have 3 valid permits because it's in my wifes name. Just really really dumb since all our financial info on account is the same. I have an entire weekend now free while it collects dust in the store.

I'm surprised you can't just go in with your wife and together tell the store owner that you want to buy the gun with your permit in your name. Wish I could help but I've never run into something like this before. When I've bought guns online (vendor, gunbroker, private party, etc) all I've ever had to supply to the seller was money and the FFL info for the local dealer the gun was to be shipped to. Once the gun is at the local dealer I just went in and bought the gun with the appropriate documentation. I'm failing to see why I couldn't buy the gun online, and once it arrives, have my wife buy it with her paperwork. I was under the impression the seller was officially selling it to the local dealer and I was effectively buying if from them... sorry you'll lose a perfect weekend of shooting that new gun due to this red tape!

Wow, a permit to purchase the gun? I thought that was what the background check was for. Do they still do a background check with the paperwork at the time of purchase or does the sheriff's office do that then give you the permit to purchase?
Permit thingy is something I'd expect from a place like New Jersey.
The 'pistol purchase permit' thing is kind of a drag, but it's really not as restricting as it sounds. For one thing, it's shall issue, and it takes the place of the normal background check. The time it takes to process must depend on the sheriff's dept., because I got mine back in a couple of days. The one upside is that once you get a permit (or a couple), then you can walk into a gun store and buy without having to wait for a background check to go through or be delayed. I've definitely heard of people having to wait a while due to confusion over similar/same names.
Also, if you're an individual selling a handgun to another individual, by requiring a copy of their PPP (you're required to by law, but I think a huge number of people don't) then you largely absolve yourself from the liability of selling a handgun to someone prohibited from owning one.

indigo??? are you in the printing business by any chance? hp indigo press? i too live in nc(durham) and we can only get 2 permits per application and they make you wait the full 30 days to get them. thats why i went ahead and got my chp. and that took the full 90 days and 90$ plus 30$ i think it was to release any medical info from the local hospitals. i told them i had no med records but they still made me pay 10-15$ per hospital (duke and unc) just to check. pain in the ass if you ask me. add that with the 75$ i paid for the concealed carry course and it cost a pretty penny to carry a concealed weapon, but all the guns i go through, its still easier than goin through that purchase permit crap every other week for 2 permits at a time and at 5$ a permit, it adds up too. so no more of that for me.-bggs

I'm from Ohio Deuce but spent the last 9 years in NC. I finally got my new Elite 9 and broke it in last week which is how I started this thread it sat at the store for about a week with people fondling it and doing god knows what to it. I'm going to get a ccw at some point just to eliminate the permit hassle so that I can fill my closet with a small arsenal. Not for scary reasons but they are just too shiny to ignore. So it takes 3 months to get that one?

They limit you to two in Durham? We can do 5 in Raleigh, and no extra charge for medical.
It's all a racket...
