Hey guys. I've been lurking for a few days while I awaited my new PM9. Got it yesterday and prepped it last night. Took it to the range and broke it in. Worked flawlessly through a couple hundred Federal Champion and a box of Hornady Tap 124gr (which is what I plan to carry)
The only problem I see is one I first noticed last night. The mag release isn't very crisp and has to be pushed pretty hard to actuate. The 6 rounder is crisper but still not very good and drops free in it's on. The 7 is worse and has to be pulled out. I gather this is a problem that has been seen before as I saw some references to it but not the solution.
I think this is already my favorite carry and I've already learned a ton on the forum. Thanks for the info and any help you can offer on the mag release problem.

Hi SigEd, welcome and I'm glad to hear that you're happy with your PM9 and that it did so well. Thanks for letting us know, it's always good to hear good news. As for the mag release issue, I wish I could be of help to you but I'll leave it for some of the other more experienced to tackle. Keep shooting!

it soem time . break in is notjust shootign 200rounds. lots of little things have to mate up to get smoother. Your mag will smooth out some. concentrate more n the 5 roundsr it is yourflush fit magazine andif itis doing wthatyou want it to do. forget about the 7 rounder. I hated the looks ofmy 7 rounder and have used it maybe half dozen times in 4 years. I bought my PM9 for concealability and the exteneded magazine doesn't fit that bill for me.
Some people have had goodluck with actually waxing the outside of their magazines and they seem to think it helps ...

I agree with Jocko. Things will smooth out over time and concentrate on the mag you intend to carry. I did wax the inside and outside of my mags with a good paste wax and buffed it out. I have never had a single problem with my mags. However, the mags should drop freely once you get used to the mag release button. Make sure it's not you first. If the mag is not dropping freely after you have cleaned it up, waxed it, and buffed it...I would send it back for a replacement. I want all mags to work properly. I intend to shoot IDPA with my 6 round mags (PM40) this year. I want them to drop. I will be at a slight disadvantage with the PM40 anyway, so it needs to work flawlessly. If you are dead set (like I am) that the mags need to drop freely...I suggest you pursue getting results from Kahr. Just my opinion. Some guys have had this problem and decided to live with it. It is warranted, so execute the warranty you paid for when you purchased your gun. The warranty has monetary value. You want your gun to work the way you want it to work. Again, just my opinion, because some guys don't care about mags dropping freely...I do.
Good luck.

I cannot agree with the idea that a mag release needs "break in". They don't teach that at the Holiday Inn or any school of engineering.
Here's a suggestion:
Unload the pistol and strip the slide from the frame. Disassemble a magazine and load the outer shell into the frame. Look from the top and bottom to see anything that may interfere with the mag release. Look for burrs, binding and anything that is putting pressure on the magazine outer shell.
If you cannot do a simple fix by parts replacement or removing burrs than send it back. You have a warranty. Stick it back attem.

I'm going to have to investigate how the release works a little more. Not sure if the problem would be more with the mag or the gun itself. The 6 rounder drops free well enough but the main problem with both is the release itself. The button feels mushy and you have to mash it kinda deep to get it to release. Almost like a spring isn't strong enough or something. If I can't find an obvious cause I'll call Kahr on Monday. Any other thoughts are appreciated.
