View Full Version : Gun Broker - Update

I just listed my first pistol on Gun Broker this afternoon and remember saying that I would give everybody an update after creating my first gun listing.

Setting up the Gun Broker account was easy and straight forward. I did have to submit either a credit card or bank account number to be able to sell items. I also created a GPal account which will allow me more options for collecting funds from the transactions.

GPal to Gun Broker is very much like PayPal is to Ebay and was also easy and straightforward to get setup.

For me the hard part was compiling the information that you need to know before buying , but now that I have a template made further auctions will be a piece of cake to create.

Hopefully my picture taking skills will improve as time goes along.

I will advise how the rest of the process goes as the auction progresses.

I would welcome any constructive criticism with my auction listing or picture taking skills in hopes of improving future listings but don’t want anyone thinking I am trying to sell this item here on this forum, as that is not my intent and I am not interested in violating any of the forums rules.

I tried to keep everything simple and easy on the eyes but am thinking a different background color might work better for the pictures or maybe a bit more lighting, but time will tell.

Here is the link if interested in critiquing - http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=210673940 (http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=210673940)

Thanks,
Steve

I've been on Gunbroker for about 2 years, and have seen hundreds of ads.....you did a nice job.

Nice gun. My 30 year old P225 was one of the five pistols stolen in August, and you've reminded me what a good, balanced shooter they are. Good luck with the sale.

Good luck on your sale. That's a nice looking Sig.

if interested in critiquing...

* IMHO 14 days is too long unless you are selling a really hard to find, much sought item. Waiting two weeks after placing a bid would drive me nuts. I suggest going to one week in the future.

* Photos are great... can't have too many.

* I'm turned off by guesses... "I believe it was manufactured around 1997 but am not 100% sure.. If you don't know, then don't say. Sig uses code dates, that would give the year.

* Emphasize FREE SHIPPING.

* Signing up for GPAL is a great move. I prefer to buy using a credit card and worry and fret when I mail off a money order. If two guns are in contention, I'll buy the one I can buy my way. Good move... even though it cost a bit.

That's it. Good ad. I'm more inclined to buy a used gun that is clearly described, warts and all, flaws disclosed, written description matches the photos, and at a fair and reasonable price.

Your points make very good sense looking at it from a buyers point of view which is what I am exactly looking for.

I have made the needed changes and thanks for the feedback.

I am going to go look for a different color background material for the pictures and see what I can come up with.

I'm with Ripley. You did have a buy now listed so thats the cure if you can't wait. I too look for short auctions so I don't have to wait.
The downfall to the buy now is it blows any chances of getting even more than you were trying for.
I've seen countless times where people have bid so close to the buy now that it went away and the bidding just kept going and going.
No way I would bid within 50 bucks of the buy now without just buying it.
Lots of people there, not as many as on like ebay that don't do their homework. They just bid away, that's awesome for sellers but not so hot for guys like me with just barely enough funds for that special toy.
It was a good listing, you did real good. Your a brave man, I've thought of doing that much as it pains me to sell any but I'm afraid.

I'd be cautious about GPAL... there has been a LOT of discussion on MANY gun forums about problems with GPAL completing transactions in a timely fashion.
