depends on your percieved needs?????

If you bought the KT as a "fun gun", you have just that...and somewhat inexpensive to shoot. If you bought it for a shtf gun, preparing for certain type scenerios to possibly become reality, then it has either already proved it's worthyness in a situation or has yet to be tried under the conditions you bought it to prepare for. I see the PLR16 as very practical shtf tool to have around if one was subject to be trapped in the midst of a major urban disaster zone (or socio-political melt down). The S&W is designed for a totally different purpose. It could also be a "fun gun", although a bit more expensive to shoot...quite a bit, I believe. Although, this is where the percieved needs thing keep coming into play. If you hunt in, visit for nature walks or travel through remote areas often, where large predators are known to roam, and there is the possibility of being stranded for any length of time. the S&W would be my choice. Bigger targets almost always deserve bigger holes.

I may be looking at this from too practical a view point though

Thats a tough call ain't it. I've had a hankering for a 460 but not the snubbie like that. I prefer it to the 500 since you can shoot some of the lesser expensive ammo like the 45 Colt or 454 Casull.

Don't know much about the Kel Tec but I suspect between those two you'd probably shoot it more than the 460.

Still a tough choice.

here's practical..... get the 460, buy the reloading dies, cast your own bullets, roll yer own.......

I would trade:D

Sometimes it's no fun being practical. I already have a Desert Eagle .50.

I'd make the trade if they tossed in a box of ammo :)

The PLR doesn't make a lot of sense to me unless you plan on SBRing it - and with the money invested, I'd look at other platforms to SBR for long term durability if you go NFA.

Adding that to the equation I'd keep your Kel Tec.

If you ever get the 460 I'd get a longer barrel version. I was at a range one time and there was a guy shooting his, I think it was long, like 8" maybe. He was easily hitting at 100 yards and claimed it was so flat shooting with the460 ammo that he could hit at 200 when sighted at 100.
He did have to keep the wooden bench wet as it kept catching fire from his muzzle blast which was substantial.
It was very cool to watch and he claimed surprisingly not that uncomfortable to shoot. I didn't beg to shoot it but wish I had now.

jeep.....honestly, you have to think about this?
Ask yourself......."Do you get a DVD with the PLR"? ...duh!

What's SBR?
They will trade me 2 boxs of 460 ammo for my 10 boxs of .223 ammo. They don't have any long barrell versions to trade. Dollar for dollar they are about equal value.

SBR = Short Barreled Rifle

i.e., shoulder fired. If you were to affix a shoulder stock to the PLR, it would be creating a Short Barreled Rifle, which requires a special "tax stamp", Federal Registration, and other silly minutia.... or prison sentence - whichever you choose:eek:

Duh...now that you mention it, I remember that....short memory...lol

Well, how often do you go woods loafing? The plr would in my mind be better served by the SU-16, and yes I'm in the market for an SU-16. The 460 is a great trail gun, but then again, is a beast to feed. I'd just get a second mortgage and have both.

It comes down to needs and future needs. For me, I'd keep the PLR (and I agree with jlottmc, I think you'd be better served by the SU-16 but it's not in the running so that's a whole different discussion). I don't have much need for a gun like the 460 and since you already have the DE .50 I'd say you're good in that category. Has the PLR been shooting good for you?

One of our local stores has the 460 kit just like that. I drool over it every time I'm in there. :D :D :D

Do I NEED it? Heck no. But it sure would be fun.

Well....went to trade today and they all of a sudden thought they had GOLD, after telling me they would do even trade they now wanted $300 to boot. That sure helped me make up my mind; needless to say I kept the Kel Tec. Seems odd that gun has been on display for over 2 years and now they think it is in demand.

I'm not too surprised they wouldn't do an even trade. The few PLR's that show up un the used shelves around here are normally priced between $350 and $400 ... not a real big demand in my neck of the woods. But, by the same token, we don't see the big honkin' survival revolver around here either. I would have guessed the S&W was tagged at no less than $600???

Same price here with NO EXTRAS on it. With laser, scope, front grip guard, sling, shell deflector etc. they are $1200 here and on Gunbroker. The 460's are going for $900.

I've noticed that the used firearms dealers around here really don't put much value on scopes and other accessories. I've got a buddy that buys used, scoped rifles for the blue book price of the rifle alone, takes the scope off and either uses it himself on a "keeper", or sells it outright, then generally makes his money back on selling (or trading) the rifle. Sometimes it seems you're better off selling the accessories to someone wanting to mod their own gun, then trade/sell the gun in it's nekkid state.
