I traveled 175 miles [one way] today to attend the Dixie Gun and Knife Show in Raleigh.Since Obama was elected, the crowds at gun shows have grown dramatically but I have never seen it as bad as it was today.I got there 2 hours after the doors opened and the line still snaked all the way around the building and back.Fortunately,a good friend had called me while I was in transit and had bought a ticket for me so I didn`t have to wait.Inside, the place was so packed you couldn`t get to the tables to look at anything and you were constantly being bumped or elbowed by someone. In the midst of this chaos,of course, there were a few people with babies in strollers trying to get God knows where. My buddy and I stayed for about two and a half hours before giving up.When we got outside the line of people waiting to buy tickets was as long as it was when I got there. Still is probably.

Those crowded gun shows can be very frustrating, trying to look at stuff and getting pushed down the aisle. Usually by lookers who have no money (most likely due to our current administration) or intention to buy stuff.

It's even more frustrating for me since I need a bit wider path to get down an aisle. Usually people are accomodating but frequently I encounter those who are like drivers with the phone in their ear, they are clueless to whos around them or whats going on.

Our local show is this weekend, I never go on saturdays since it is a mob scene. I go tomorrow morning shortly after they open, no line to get in since I'm a member, just fight the traffic inside.

What a crowded world we live in.

i too was there. and the shi**y part is. i went for a glock 34. a pretty common gun right?? nope. there was only one in the show and they knew they had it.. wanted over 6 for it. i talked em down to 580 plus tax and still spend 620 out the door. but like you said. after waiting in line for hour and half then paying 8 to get in and 10 for a burger and fries for lunch. i basically HAD to buy it just so i didnt feel like i wasted my money and a whole day.. oh well im happy with it now.. its just money right? until i try to sell/trade it i guess. the shows have gotten crazy, the attendance had to be at an all time record, and people are so rude its hard to keep your composure at times. i used to love going there when i was a kid with my dad. now he wont even go and i go alone with my ipod in and just expect to wait in alot of lines. i had to go to a show in fayetville to get a replacement for my k40, it was my first time there. surprisingly, it wasn't as big as raleigh, but had most of the good dealers there, and the crowd was very minimal. you could walk right up and look without getting elbowed by someone or waiting for 10 mins just to pick something up. very nice, i will go back to fayetville again. i think it was the c&e show. two thumbs up.-bggs

I just got back from our local show here. There was a good amount of vendors as usual but the crowd wasn't too bad. I've been going long enough, it's once a month that I know alot of people there.
Today everyone wanted to talk, my kid said hes gonna start taking 2 cars so he doesn't have to spend the whole day there but that won't work cause most people have to talk to me thru him since I'm near deaf as a stump.

I scored a couple Mag Pul 30 rd mags for an officer that wanted some, got a 1000 ea large and small winchester primers, finally had some, been rare lately.

Guy came up to me and wanted me to refinish a stock he had, his grandfathers old custom mauser and another fella wanted me to make grips out of some stabilized wood. He makes knife handles and wants to offer a pistol grip and a pen out of the same wood.

So I got some projects to add below my kahrtalk list of grips and some other needed supplies. Guess it was a good show.

You`re right about the C&E shows. They don`t advertise as much and are less attended. The one they have in the spring is usually in the new Expo center and it`s too cramped but the others are in the Jim Graham Bldg. Those are the ones I`m going to attend from now on.The Dixie shows have just gotten too out of hand.

Yep, same here....I was on my way to the Raleigh show and called a buddy of mine while driving over. He told me he was at the show but was leaving. Told me parking was a mile away and the line was unbelievable. I turned around and headed back home.

As for the Fayetteville show, I grew up in Fayetteville and you are right that the Fayetteville show is much less crowded. I will be headed down to meet a few of my buddies for the next show down there.

Guess I will be holding on to the 1911 for awhile longer. :D

Just tell your wife that Jocko said it was ok and best to keep it being it's so nice, and collectable and a series 70 and just the sweetest thing.
It's at a point that it will probably never go down in value so consider it a 401k.
Be sure and use the name Jocko alot. You can tell her Indianna which is a far piece from Washington so thats another big plus to using his name.
Does she happen to like chocolate milkshakes by any chance? That might be a good connection right there.

I was gonna go this weekend too but heard it was a nightmare. Didn't have anything I was looking to buy, just a day out looking at metal beats a day stuck in the house... not this time apparently.

hey rev. man, i cant believe no one has grabbed that 70 off you yet, but like bawanna said, a little longer and you wont wanna sell it. just pay her off to let you keep it. that's what i do. sux, i know, but at least i get to keep the guns i want. u know those situations where u cant make up your mind so you get both and say I'll sell the one i like the least later on. then the time comes to actually sell one and you just cant do it. so take her to her favorite restaurant, buy her a rose, and when she's so happy she cant see straight, say..."honey, im keeping the damn colt!" lol. seriously tho, try the dinner things. works for me. i have at least 15 handguns that i acquired that way!

Yup good sound logic there.

I told mine I was selling my Match Target AR 15 (which I was) to buy my Cbob. Guy told me he had the loot, give him a couple days so I ordered the Cbob on gunbroker. That was 4 months ago and the dude still hasn't come up with the loot. Now I'm not sure I want to sell the AR anyhow. It's like brand new probably less than 50 rounds thru it in the 7 or 8 years I've owned it. Just not a black rifle fan. Give me an M1A or an M14 anyday. She seems to have forgotten, at least she hasn't said anything recently.

Maybe you could send me the 70 Colt for awhile till your wife forgets, tell her you had to have the transmission serviced on your car and thats where the money went. 6 months or years from now I'll send it back and nobody will be the wiser. ( sorry guys had to go for this before one of you beat me to it)

Fingers crossed going for submit.

mr. bggs, right now I am just going through the motions. Just had a guy offer to trade me two kayaks with paddles and vests for it????

She will forget about it soon and only bring it up when she wants something. :)

Bawanna, I can send it to you for awhile as long as it comes back tricked out with some nice goodies. That's fair, right?

Define tricked out and nice goodies?

I cannot tell a lie, my Missouri upbringing just don't allow it. Some of the most notorious criminals of all time came from Missouri but they all told the truth. You kill them people, yup I kilt em.
Anyhow that being said if you sent me that sweet thing, you'd never see it again. I know I'd be on the run the rest of my life looking over my shoulder just waiting for you to grab me but it would be worth it.
If you trade that beauty for a kayak you best be on the run cause I'll be looking for you.
What do I got you'd trade for it?????????

Stall the missus, I got me an idear! I wish I had this wood I'm waiting for. I'll make some handles for that sweet thing (the gun, not your missus) that will make her (the missus, not the gun) weep.
She'll be so bedazzled that theres no way she'll let ya part with it. Probably want to display as a center piece on the coffee table.
I think it'll work.
I'm killing myself with grip production here but we'll get r dun!

If I can stall long enough for her to forget I have it I would definitely take you up on the grips! I'll sell a dog, a child whatever it takes to pay for them.

Bawanna

Focus on stalling, the paying part won't be difficult. Your already bonding with that thing now if your willing to sell a dog for it.
Nothing much greater to give up for anything but a mans dog, lessen of course you hate your dog or it's one of them purse dogs that licks your money while your shopping at Wally World.

I'll be up at the crack o dawn tomorrow probably about 9:30 and making sawdust. Gonna start some Kyletex since I'm waiting for stuff for everyone else on the list and that lovely 70 might get a start too but I got this other wood in my head that I gotta wait for. I hate waiting, I really really do.

he's right. once you get rid of it, u will think of it everytime u see or hear about a colt. as time goes on it will only grow on you more. i have a 70 commander with $2000 in upgrades and i love it! cant think of selling it. when times get hard and i need money, i mean REALLY need money, it still never even crosses my mind to sell it bc i know that if i did... id never be able to replace it. I LOVE MY COLTS. oh and my kahrs too but that goes without saying on this site!-bggs

It's even more frustrating for me since I need a bit wider path to get down an aisle. Usually people are accomodating but frequently I encounter those who are like drivers with the phone in their ear, they are clueless to whos around them or whats going on.Would it help to put one of the rotating beacons in blue on a pole attached to your vehicle? A low wattage one mind you but I think folks would find a way to clear a path if they know you were there.

If that doesn't help, borrow a Fire Dept Honker!!!! Believe me they will be diving over tables to make way for that!
