Big plans for this Saturday, unless something comes up. I gotta make a combo pleasure / work-related trip to the National Air and Space Museum annex out near Dulles Airport in Northern Virginia. (This is not the main NASM complex on the Mall.)

Since this is a rare trip out of my home state of Maryland I get to CCW. (Whoot!) But while in VA, I’m also going to swing by NRA intergalactic HQS and check out the National Firearms Museum (http://www.nramuseum.com/) and after it closes check out the NRA range (http://www.nrahq.org/shootingrange/nrahqrange/ (http://www.nrahq.org/shootingrange/nrahqrange/)). Heard good things about both the NRA Museum and the range – first chance to see it for myself. You can bet I’ll have my CW9 with me and several hundred rounds of ammo. I’ll file a trip report if ya’ll are interested.

Sounds like a very full day. Traffic is horrible around Dulles. Both the Udvar-Hazy Center and the NRA museum/range are spectacular and worth the effort.

The space shuttle display had just opened last time I visited and wasn't even complete. Plan to spend about four hours looking at all the planes and displays. A very neat place. No admission charge but parking was $10 or $12, if I recall.

The NRA museum requires you to wear a bib and carry a "drool cloth"... it's that good! Plan on about a three hour museum visit.

Aray, being from Maryland, you may know about or have visited one of the neatest and maybe least known museums in the D.C.area, the Crytologic Museum, just a stones throw from the huge NSA complex on Fort Meade. Yes, the NSA has a public museum. No, they do not giveaway any secrets.

Hey, thanks for the comments about timing re: the two VA museums. That does help me to plan my day.

As for the NSA museum, as I sit here typing I'm about 1/4 mile away from the museum right now. Not only do I know about it, but I helped facilitate the acquistion of some of their artifacts. Indeed I provided the language which they later turned into a couple of their signs (the supercomputers).

I was reading a bit more on the NRA range web site and it sezs it can handle rounds up to the ".460 Weatherby Magnum". Not familiar with that before - did a bit of web reading on it. Sounds like that is one big honkin' gun/round!

It leaves a mark on both ends.
