I attempted to shoot my new CW40 today-didn't go well, but I hauled out my IWB holstered CW9 to vent my frustrations. Shot a box of Fiocchi 115 grain hollowpoints to make me relax.

Wow, do those suckers shoot some fireballs! I'm guessing that each round produced an 8 to 10 inch fireball every time I pulled the trigger. They cycled just fine and hit where I was aiming but I would bet that if I fired them at night--------I'd be totally blind!!!!!!

Cycled fine, shot to point of aim, pretty clean, BUT wow, what a fireball!!!

To be clear, these are the straight 115 grn JHP, NOT the XTP hollowpoint. I have a couple boxes of those but didn't shoot them this time.

I like Fiocchi. Carry the XTPs all the time. Never had a malfuntion in any caliber. And they also have a factory here in my home state. I doubt the bullet style has anything to do with the flash, though.

I'm also a big Fiocchi fan! I bought a few 1Krnd cases of 10 years ago in .45/9mm when it was cheaper. It has always performed excellent. Alot of people have told me they think its loaded "hotter" than most, but I've never chronoed it to check. Usually the type of powder they use relates to the flash.
Nowdays its a little more expensive, but I'd still buy it if it were only a cpl $ a box more.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the rounds functioning as it was 100% reliable. I've been reloading ammo for years so I know that powders have a huge effect on muzzle flash. My comment was only referring to the almost volleyball sized fireball that blasted out of my pistol when I fired them.

I'm guessing that a night time firing would instantly eliminate any and all night vision adaptation!!!!!! No problem in daylight,,,,,big problem at night!!!!!!!!!

Didn't try any of the XTP loaded rounds so don't know if they use different powder in those cartridges.
