Hi all,
I've been a shooter for over 25 years, but just went Kahr a week ago. My Dads PM9 was the first Kahr I ever fired, what a sweet gun!
I ended up buying the P380 for ultra concealment over the Keltech and Ruger for several obvious advantages such as the trigger pull, slide lock and slide serrations, sight and IMHO its just a better looking gun! Dont get me wrong. I've shot the other two and seriously considered them, but liked the above features better.
I got out and shot it last weekend, however, and was impressed on all but function, the most important part! I only had 2 partial boxes of .380 ammo to try. Out of 36 rnds, I had 5 failures to feed. The rounds were stuck in the chamber 45 degrees halfway up the feed ramp. Interestingly the rounds that gave me problems were FMJ round nosed American Eagle.
The other partial box was Winchester white box FMJ in a tructuated cone style bullet. These all functioned flawlessly. I would have expected the oppisite to be true due to bullet shape.
Accuracy was excellent!
My other Question is...
I noticed while cleaning the gun that... with the gun empty, and the hammer down, when I retract the slide the firing pin is protruding all the way untill the last 1/2" until it goes into battery! :2eek:
It doesnt do this if you retract the slide when the gun has already been cocked. Can this cause an AD? Does everybody elses gun do this? Could this be causing some of the failures to feed?
Thanks,
DL

u jus tneed more rounds down range to get this gun broken in correctly. If AE ammo is the culprit, just go to another of the many other good brands out there. My p380 hates 102 grain golden sabre, eats everthing else i have tried OK. I think your gun is OK.
No hammer on the gun,, striker fired. with the trigger ulled (hammer down) the firing pin will stick out as the striker has come forward until the slide is moved about 1/4" and then it partially recocks it out of the way. again ur ok, just shoot it like you stole it and this gun will smooth out even more.
You mght want to go to the kahr tech section and hit on two fine threads. Both are sticky's. #1. kahr lube chart, it is simply the best. #2 propper prepping of your new kahr. It will help you alot also.
welcome aboard..

Welcome, I would agree to stay away from AE until the gun is broken in. As you know most of the pocket 380s can be finicky. Keep us posted on your progress.:)

Thanks all for the warm welcome!
I went out today and run another box through her in the cold today (it was 5 degrees here!). Winchester white box went fifty for fifty and ran perfectly.
Shot it weak and strong hand, kept chucking shells like clockwork.
I figured I might have a problem before I reached the break in period but really wasnt expecting it with a $600 gun. To be fair I didnt break it down and clean it for the first 36rnds. since it came nice and oily (over oiled) right out of the box.
I use CLP and expect I'll have no more issues.
As for AE ammo, I just had it laying around and am glad to have it gone. Throught the years I've always had problems with squib loads the 3 times I've bought this ammo for .45, .357 and .44 mag guns that digest everything else just fine. I dont like AE neither does my guns!:D
Thanks for the heads up on the 102gr. sabers! Good to save my $$$ on hard to find/expensive .380 ammo!!!;)
What are your prefered carry rounds? I'm leaning towards Magtech or any other 85-95gr. +P for summer carry. Any body try powerball?
As for the firing pin protrudance, I still dont like it, but will simply rack it before chambering a round and stuffing it in the pocket.;)
Thanks again. I'll keep you all posted!

When I used to carry a .380,I kept it loaded with Corbon DPX.I had no issues with it and from everything I read,it had decent penetration and great expansion when fired into different types of media.I took a roast out of the refrigerator and fired a few of the Corbons into it.They penetrated about 7 inches or so and looked like copper boat propellers when I dug them out.My wife should be ashamed of herself for the way she talked to me when she found out her roast was gone and why.Women.

I did that once with a 45 and a shot gun. The wife has never been good at fixing a roast, and this one was horrible. I took it out tested my stuff, and she gave me some stank eye, but didn't say much else.

Wow, you guys are brave. Mrs. Deuce would be a little more upset than that and frankly I've spent too much time with her on the range to try something like that.

At least in my case, the thing was horrible (too much salt, my silly wife apparently doesn't read too well or something), I was actually doing us all a favor. Rather than let that thing fester in the ice box for a month or so with nobody eating it, I put it to use, and made a point in the process.

I think that sometimes folks forget that these teeny-tiny pistols don't have alot of "slop" factor. Things have to fit and work perfectly for them to function. Shoot it at least 200 times before making any judgement calls on these little pistols.
Make sure the feed ramp and chamber are polished to a high shine. I also polish the face of the extractor to insure that it slides easily over the rim of the cartridge when the gun goes into battery. My P380 will "slow cycle" a round into the chamber with no problem.
It's really easy to do, just give it a try. Yeah, Kahr could do some of this stuff but the pistols would cost even more than they do now!!!!

Like Jocko advised check out the (2) stickys in the KahrTech section and run 200 more rounds thru it and should be okay.

Speaking of "slow cycle", the first shot out of my P380 was on video at thirty frames a second. It took 18 frames to go back into battery for the second shot! It seemed like longer while I pointed the gun at the target. Since then, I've had just the slightest hesitation a time or two.
