View Full Version : trade question..
This the Kahr forum but I know you guys will be honest.
I've been thinking of down sizing my .45 form the Sig P220. The P220 is a great shooter and incredibly reliable. The bad(imo) is that the 220 is very big and heavy for its capacity(8rounds), I like a .45 when I'm hiking but the 220 is a load to carry and won't fit my gunny sack, its not really usable for CC and having a DA/SA trigger bugs me, especially after experiencing the consistency and smoothness of the K9 trigger.
I have an opportunity too even trade the P220 for a same condition Kahr P45 two-tone with 2 mags. The P45 would definitely fill the short comings of the 220...BUT how do they shoot and what is the general consensus on P45 reliability?
I have a .22lr conversion for the 220 also and extra mags. I could sell these off and get a decent .22 pistol for cheap practice and plinking.
I'm open to hearing any onions this trade.....

can you take the P45 out for a test run to see how u like it. ??? That would tell u alot and if it is used and yours is used, let the other fella try your sig while your trying his P45. I would have no issues in saying the P45 should be fool proof . Not sure you wil lshoot it as good as the sig as the trigger systems are different, but you certainly going to a much lighter gun with the kahr.
The trade sounds reasonable if both parties are happy...

Warning- Opinion forthcoming.
The 220's are sweet sweet guns but the P45 is too for all the reasons you already stated.
In your boots I'd seek a way to add to not swap. Especially since you got the 22 conversion for it. You'd still be able to enjoy it even if only with 22's. I'd dig owning that setup myself but don't offer it to me, I can't have it.
I don't own a P45 but do have a PM45 so direct first hand experience with one isn't available to me.

I love my P45 to death, it will not leave my battery. Mine is an older version with pins in the side plates and such, but the only issues I've had with it are from my own dumba$$. it shoots well, is light and handy, and is very accurate. I haven't shot a P220, but have handled a Sig P226 in 357sig, and it was a nice gun for the four rounds I put through it (long story that). I'm with Bawanna, find a way to add instead of trade, that P220 is a nice weapon to keep for say a night stand gun, or a truck gun, or something like that.
I'd have no problem keeping the Sig P220.....but I do really want a compact(er) .45 and have no need for two(remember I have strict gun ownership rules......)..Even more importantly, I plan to break my rules to get a CM9 and can't swing it and a P45.

There ya go, rules are meant to be flexed to the limit.
What roll is the CM9 gonna play. Each has their own area. The sig would be a nice range gun, night stand gun. The P45 could fill the daily go where you go roll. And the CM as a backup, or wearing shorts summer time go to gun?
My people back from SHOT said the Kahr people said the CM would retail for about 550 about in line with many of the assumptions mentioned here.
I expect 450 to 5 street price, not a bad deal.

I am entertaining the thought of a similar trade... in my case I have a very nice, lightly used, Sig P239 in 40S&W (about 6 years old) that I rarely carry. Very accurate handgun, but just a little wide in the gills for comfortable IWB carry most of the time. The DA/SA trigger system is fine, if that's what you stay accustomed to...which I don't. So, since the Sig sits in the dark recesses of my small pistol safe all but the one or two yearly range trips it sees, I am "considering" a trade for a future CM9. But, it's really tough to think about giving up a Sig..... especially for me considering my love for metal.

I forgot to add....
The Kahr is in TX and the Sig and I are in CT, so no chance of trying before buying.

I just asked him and he was stumped. Thought genes was something you get from your momma and poppa or Levi Strauss but wasn't sure of that either. As for solutions I'm good at those since I'm usually at the root of the problem so I got lots of experience.
Man your thick/thin, Esteemed but thick/thin.

Is there a range around you that rents guns? If they rent a P45, shoot it, then see what you think. I'm kinda partial to my P45, but I would not feel a bit bad about that 220 either, then again I am known to carry large, and heavy guns too. My P45 has a role, and it serves it well, I can put it in some pockets but for the most part, it is a belt gun like all the others for me. When out in the bush I carry very little extra, but there is whichever pistol I have on me. Some days its a full sized 1911, or my GP-100 with a 4" bbl, or any of my full to midsized pistols. The P45 and my Taurus 605 are the smallest ones that I have in my battery. And personally, I say that there is always room in the battery for more.

Hey PaiN. Here's the choices you've given us:
Sig P220 .45 (w/ .22 kit) + Kahr K9 (keep the Sig)
Kahr P45 + Kahr K9 (trade for the P45)
Knowing your "Philosophy" and minimalist approach, may I suggest another for consideration?
Sig P220 .45 (w/ .22 kit) + Kahr P45?
Here's my thought. If you really want to keep things neat and tidy, get yourself into one caliber. The Sig sounds like it's been a winner for you and I don't want you to have withdrawals like you did after the P9 fiasco. I know jlottmc and Bawanna's advice would be to keep them all but knowing your "Philosophy" that won't do, right? I know the K9 has been great for you and yes, I'm a PM9 guy. But maybe for your situation another option would be a good consideration? Just a thought.

Thems good thoughts, puts you into one caliber, and all. Then you can wait with us for the CM45 to come out. Life is good.

The one big thing thats just nawing at my gut is your gonna have sellers remorse parting with that Sig. I can feel it in me bones.
There are times you can walk proudly with that bad boy on your hip. For those other times you got the P45. Anything else is just frosting.
If we want to do minimalist when you get your CM9 you can off your K9 but I wouldn't do that either since I like steel guns. Maybe you could just go buy something you really don't like and then just sell it and that will make everything balance out for ya?
Somehow I think I'm not helping here. I feel so worthless sometimes it makes me want to go dump the dogs water dish.
I can't go to one cal....especially to .45 that would mean giving up the K9...and that's not happening.
Trust me Bawa, the Sig's main job will be SHTF use. Its awesome and intimidating as hell in a side holster...but I can help thinking something like a P45 might do the same and be more versatile for other uses...
I'll sleep on this....

I'm not a "one calber guy" either. For several years I had the intent to own a reliable handgun in every standard, readily available caliber that my short fingers could find to fit. That was before the "ammo shortage". Well, the shortages proved to me that it was a plausible idea. I have since gotten rid of the .25 and .380 cal stuff, and never did get around to filling the 9x18 niche (still have mrs surv's P32 though). I figure that having 9mm, .40 s&w, .45 acp, .38/.357 around for SD needs should be adequate as at least some variety of that ammo was always available during the "gun owners self induced, price gouging shortage".
That's my only reason to toy with the idea of trading my Sig for another Kahr. It's not only my only Sig, it's my only .40 S&W. Now, if I could trade even for a perfectly reliable PM40, or a yet to be announced NIB CM40, it would be a done deal.

If you can verify or can be certain that the P45 is not damaged, Go for it!!! I would also strongly suggest that you get a CTL for it also. I have stated on another thread that the P45 that I now have is THE best shooting 45ACP in my locker. That includes Colt's, Wilson,
Glock, Sig FN and a few put2gether parts 1911's

I bought a p220r not too long ago and I love it. If I could only have one gun, it would be the sig, if I could only have two, it'd be the sig and the pm9. So I vote for you to keep the sig. (But then again, I've never shot a kahr 45.)
If you do decide to do the trade, and you happen to have a nice owb leather holster for that p220 (r?) I'm probably interested in buying it from you. I'm ready to carry mine occasionally.

As far as I know there's no rule against having more than one 45 - I have eleven, including a P220. Yes, it is somewhat large, but it is also a fine shooter, and as mentioned, makes an excellent HD weapon. I do on occasion carry mine on the belt under a jacket, but I have better compact 45's for that.

yes there is ...."The Rule of PaiN" ... :)
Good morning everyone. Thanks for all the talk on this matter(gotta love this forum). My intent for the 220 when I purchased it was a SHTF sidearm...and that it is. I also thought about the $70+ it'll cost to do this trade($35 shipping + $35 FFL fee)...I guess I've decided I could spend $70 better than getting rid of a pistol I really like....Not only that but, I realized I don't know what I'm getting. This P220 is a rock, as good as Kahrs are I have no way of knowing if I'm getting someone's problem child or not......

Jacko I guess I'll have to dodge the flaming arrows :), BUT!!!!
I just got back from range, It must be me. Wilson came with factory target, shoot 60 rounds, 3 different manufacturers ammo, @ 50 Yards!!! 2" group, must have been from machine rest.
Anyway, today same results, P45 less than 2"@50foot, SQB greater than 2 ".
My fear is that if I get used to the Wilson it will harm my shooting of the Kahr that I CCW. O well!!! I might be selling the Wilson CQB!!

I didn't see this post. No reason for me to panic and start selling my wifes jewelry, nothing to see here.
Wilson, whos Wilson, Addidas, whos' Addidas. Basketball clothes. Why is there drool coming out the corner of my mouth?:blushing:
Why?? :53:
....Over the weekend I asked the owner of the P45 for specifics on the pistol....I got a reply this afternoon. It came to him basically new from an estate, he states, that he has test fired 20-30 rounds through the P45, it was flawless and accurate. Then cleaned and put away, because he liked the way other guns felt in his hand better. He also tells its condition is perfect....
I'm wavering something fierce.... :o

I'd not waver. I think you'll like the P45 real well. Sounds like it would get carried alot more than the SIG, I'm still thinking your gonna miss it but that could be just me. I've regretted selling everyone I've sold. Usually sold something to get something else and while I always liked what I got I still sorely missed what I parted with.
Perhaps your more stable and not as attached. I say go for the P45.

well, actually, I would have considered meeting him at a range for a test run - my Sig P239 for his P45. I sure won't drive to the San Francisco of Texas for a gun trade though, even if it were highly lopsided in my favor.
Thanks for the heads up though:)
