View Full Version : my CW9 has a new role...

My primary concealed carry piece has become the PM9 with CT laser. I had the PM9 for awhile before I bought a CW9 just because the price was right and I dunno, I just thought I would find some need for it. I like the CW OK but it offers nothing but one more shot and a slightly more comfortable grip over the PM9. I really don't need both and I considered selling one or the other.
But I have recently had some sort of epiphany and have suddenly hit upon its new starring role.
The CW9 is going to be (legally) transfered to our daughter who lives 2000 miles away. We like to visit her and her family and my CCW permit is honored in her state of Washington, but it is a hassle to travel with gun and ammo unless we are driving the whole distance and we usually fly or go by train. Soon, there will be a reliable gun at that end ready to go when I get there. I'll just "borrow it back" while there and she can have use of it the rest of the time. It will come with a locking security storage box to keep it away from little untrained hands, a holster, and defense ammo.
What do y'all think?

Sounds like a great idea, just make sure you can carry a gun in state that is not registered to you.

Good idea, thanks Mich.
My home state has no registration of guns, I'll have to find out about Washington.

Theres no registration of guns in Washington either. When we purchase a gun at a dealer it is registered to the buyer and recorded but you don't have to register if you buy from a private party, no paperwork or requirements at all.
Your good to go. Good plan.

is that actually a state "registration" if purchased from a ffl, or is it the standard 4473, which (technically) isn't registration?

Your right, not a state registration but the 4473. Which (technically) isn't registration, I hope.

I'm looking at adding a sub compact for CC and see you owned both guns I'm looking at and still considering. I find it interesting you bought the CW9 after owning the PM9 but elected to keep the PM9. One of the issues I have with my SR9c is concealment while dressed light. So the footprint of the gun is a big issue which I guess gives the upper hand to the PM9. But...that said, could you explain why you like the PM better, and maybe give some insight on why it's near double the price? Given your explaination, 1 more round, better grip, and far less $$ it's making me wonder.

Verndog,
I like the PM9 w CT laser and I shoot it well, it conceals very well with any clothing. I carry it in a CrossBreed MiniTuck. I have a pocket Desantis holster for it but I have decided against pocket carry.
As near as I can figure, the CW9 is priced lower because it has a few manufacturing shortcuts and cost-saving measures but it is still high-quality and reliable. If I were doing it over? I would buy one or the other, but probably not both. If, or more likely when I buy another Kahr, it will probably be a K series.
The CW is ALMOST as easy to conceal as the PM and that difference is slight.
