Did Obama put forth any calls for new gun control legislation in the speech? I missed it due to taking my mother in law to the ER last night.[She`s OK]I haven`t heard anything about it on the news this morning but I`ve just been able to catch bits and pieces. The talking heads seem to want to say more about the show of congressional unity than anything else.I remember the "unity' display after September 11th.How long did that last?

I watched the first 10 minutes and went to bed. I dunno. I figured I'd read about it today if there was anything.

A footnote.I just read on Glocktalk that, according to Chris Mathews, there will be a seperate speech from Obama dealing with gun control issues.Stay tuned.

If that speech is as much retoric and lacks substance the way his Sputnik moment speech did it will be a good thing.
That was a terrible address and there was nothing in it that would get our economy excited.
He did not mention gun control that I heard but I was loading bullets while watching.

Gun control wasn't mentioned.

Correct...NO mention of gun control...not that it makes any real difference.
What they say does not matter...we can not believe anything. Whether it was a good speach or NOT...it's all talk and without RESULTS. It's what they don't say that we need to worry about!
My wife and I talk about our budget and we MUST live within our means. Our government needs to do the same. In my work, I MUST get RESULTS or I lose my job and do not receive benefits for the rest of my life. Our government needs to do the same.
I love our country and God Bless those who serve in our government, but our government officials need to change and become more RESULTS oriented or they should lose their job and not receive on going benefits for life, paid for by the citizens. The governent officials need to start behaving like the rest of Americans.

All you needed to know about this State of the Union is that Obama proposed a spending freeze. Apparently, in his mind, the US will be able to borrow trillions every year until the 2nd coming of Christ and this won't be problematic at all. It was an unserious speech given by an unserious man.

Unserious is what I do best! Heres a post I found appropriate.
Dear Abby:
My husband has a long record of money problems. He runs up huge credit-card bills and at the end of the month, if I try to pay them off, he shouts at me, saying I am stealing his money.
He says pay the minimum and let our kids worry about the rest, but already we can hardly keep up with the interest.
Also he has been so arrogant and abusive toward our neighbors that most of them no longer speak to us. The few that do are an odd bunch, to whom he has been giving a lot of expensive gifts, running up our bills even more.
Also, he has gotten religious. One week he hangs out with Catholics and the next with people who say the Pope is the Anti-Christ, and the next he's with Muslims.
Finally, the last straw. He's demanding that before anyone can be in the same room with him, they must sign a loyalty oath.
It's just so horribly creepy! Can you help?
Signed, Lost in DC
Dear Lost:
Stop whining, Michelle. You can divorce the jerk any time you want.
The rest of us are stuck with him for two more years!

Obama has me at the same point Bush did toward the end of his presidency. I'm just dreadfully tired of the man. The only diffrence is that Bush fatigue took 6 years to develop where Obama fatigue only took 2.

I got you beat there; I've had obama fatigue since he was campaigning for the Presidency.

Amen brother, Amen.
I was euphoric when I found out McCain was running against Hillary and him. Thought why bother with an election, it will be a landslide victory for a genuine war hero. WRONG.
Gotta hand it to him being able to buffalo enough of the huddled masses to get elected, he has to have something going for him. I have no idea what it might be and little hope that I'll ever discover it but somebody bought it.
I console myself by trying to find the birth certificate or lack thereof.

I was very pleased when I found out Fred Thompson was running; he's the only candidate that I really liked. I couldn't figure out his campaign strategy; it was like he really didn't want to win. For me, McCain was too wishy-washy, reach-across-the-aisle, pro-amnesty RINO, but for damn sure he'd have been much better than zero.

I was actually rooting for Mitt Romney and thought he did the man thing to drop out and not risk splitting the vote. It obviously worked, although it does make the american IQ look pretty pathetic which is probably true.
At this point and I swear I'd never of ever said something like this Hillary would have been better. Course now we have both so it's a Lose/Lose for America.

Romney was a no-go in my mind for 2 reasons - Romneycare, and his statements on so-called assault weapons:
“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts,” Romney said, at a bill signing ceremony with legislators, sportsmen’s groups and gun safety advocates. “These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”

Soap box time.....Ladies and Gentlemen I offer you the Getsome State of the Union....Currently we are in a leaky old row boat in the middle of the ocean with only a dixie cup to try and bail water with but currently the water is coming in faster than we can bail and even if we can slow the leak enough so we can keep up with it we are still in deep doo doo....An analogy to our current economy is the Jones family, Jack and Jill and their three children Joe, Sam and Mary...Now they had been living a good prosperous life style until Jack lost his job 2 years ago and hasn't found anything to match his old salary and he is unwilling to take on a laborer job down at the plant because he is over qualified for that kind of thing so he is sitting home collecting unemployment While Jill is working part time to bring in some money...They have gone through all their savings and now are living on credit cards to maintain their standard of living, 5 bedroom 4 bath house with a pool and 2 nice leased luxury cars along with a new car for Mary who turned 16 last month and new I-phones for everyone... The kids all want to go to Hawaii this year for vacation so Joe is cashing in all his flyer miles and took on a personal loan to make it happen and on and on and on....How long do you think they can keep up this kind of charade before the house of cards falls flat?....This is exactly what the United States Government is doing...Even if they limit spending to current levels how is that going to help anything with a 1.4 trillion dollar deficit....Wrap your head around this, If you took $100.00 bills and stacked them one on top of the other the pile to reach 1 trillion would be 63 miles high!!!...We are in a world of hurt folks and it's going to take MAJOR cutbacks and sacrifices on everyones part to even make a dent in this debacle....Just like the Jones family we want to keep up status quo but it's too late for that....We currently owe China 40 cents on every dollar and thats just interest!!! Last year GM sold more vehicles in China than in the U.S....China just unveiled their new J-20 stealth fighter which they can build hundreds of for every one F-22 Raptor we have....I really hope this doesn't happen but I can foresee it in the future....China's growth will make them even more oil hungry than we are and is a major reason for the high price of fuel in this country now...When China gets to the point that there isn't enough oil to go around I firmly believe they will invade the middle east and take over the worlds oil supply and at the same time they will invade both Tiawan, Japan and S. Korea and we will be helpless to do anything to stop it....This will be the SHTF moment for our country and I pray to God I'm wrong but it's all starting to look too real.....

Yeah, at least Hillary wouldn't be bowing to every dictator and royal that she met. Obama susposedly taught Constitutional law, yet he appears wholly unaware of the Constitution's prohibition against noble titles. They did that for a reason, Barack. :32:

Was that S.O.U. speech last night ?....Dang, I'm sorry I missed it, I was so looking forward to it,...but I had much more important task's to complete. I was involved in something much more worthwhile. ...I had to rearrange all the gear in my range bag,......those things can get away from you pretty quickly, you know...

It wasn't a S.O.U. speach, it was his kick-off to his relection run.
Does anyone ever actually listen to the state of the union address anymore? Or even TV evening "news"?

Darn, I missed it too. I had to reoil the slide on my 1911 and change the recoil spring on my CW9. You know those chores can last for hours if not addressed properly.
Having been raised around cattle all my life, I've stepped in enough of it without watching it on TV.
