A few days early, don't want to forget. Once again a place for everything that don't belong anywhere else.

Hmm, this is apparently why I live pretty close to this thread. I really just want to belong and fit in.

Only 331 more shopping days till Christmas!

OK bye.

Breaking NASCAR News

Jeff Gordon announced today that he was firing his entire pit crew:

This announcement followed Gordon's decision to take advantage of President Obama's scheme to employ Detroit youngsters.

The decision to hire them was brought about by a recent documentary on how unemployed youths from Detroit were able to remove a set of wheels in less than 6 seconds without proper equipment, whereas Gordon's existing crew could only do it in 8 seconds with thousands of dollars worth of high tech equipment.

It was thought to be an excellent and bold move by Gordon's management team, as most races are won or lost in the pits. However, Gordon got more than he bargained for.

At the crew's first practice session, not only was the inexperienced crew able to change all 4 wheels in under 6 seconds, but within 12 seconds they had changed the paint scheme, altered the VIN number, and traded the car to Dale Earnhardt Jr. for 10 cases of Budweiser, a bag of weed, and some photos of Jeff Gordon's wife in the shower.

Feb. 10 for ol jocko. Please send gifts to Bawanna first and he will forward them on to me. He wants to inspect everything, so at my age I won't get hurt..

His logic is , if a fella can't ride his motorcycle to get a milk shake without dumping it on the highway, then this fella needs so censoring for other things, so he doesnt harm himself.

If you just address the package to BAWANNA out West, it will get there.

Happy February:D

I have a good friend (former State Trooper) that carries a NAA Mini-Mag in his pocket 24/7 ... actually the only gun he usually carries. He swears he is deadly accurate with it, and it's a perfect pocket companion. Seems it sees way too much pocket time and not enough TLC time. At our last dove cooking he got it out to let one of the guys pop a round or two, and it wouldn't even pop a cap. After he finally got a round or two to launch into the woods after repeated attempts I asked him when the last time he gave it a cleaning.... several months:rolleyes:. After he took it home and dug out several months worth of dust bunnies, all was well.

I still would love to have the Mini-Mag with 1-5/8" barrel, but there are just so many others in line first.

I looked @ the Black Widow by NAA today @ the LGS. Seemed like a nice gun, but the trigger was very hard to pull. NAA is making a Ranger that is a top break that looks interesting. They only made 500 for a trial run, haven't found one yet.

I have a mini made by Freedom Arms that is similar to NAA small .22's. It is a little more finished & refined. I have killed a ton of rattlesnakes with it using bird shot.

Curtis & Leroy saw an ad in the Starkville Daily News Newspaper in Starkville, MS. and bought a mule for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the mule the next day.

The next morning the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry, fellows, I have some bad news, the mule died last night."

Curtis &Leroy replied, "Well, then just give us our money back."

The farmer said, "Can't do that. I went and spent it already."

They said, "OK then, just bring us the dead mule."

The farmer asked, "What in the world ya'll gonna do with a dead mule?"

Curtis said, "We gonna raffle him off."

The farmer said, "You can't raffle off a dead mule!"

Leroy said, "We shore can! Heck, we don't hafta tell nobody he's dead!"

A couple of weeks later, the farmer ran into Curtis & Leroy at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store and asked, "What'd you fellers ever do with that dead mule?"

They said, "We raffled him off like we said we wuz gonna do.."

Leroy said, "Shucks, we sold 500 tickets fer two dollars apiece and made a profit of $898."

The farmer said, "My Lord, didn't anyone complain?"

Curtis said, "Well, the feller who won got upset. So we gave him his two dollars back."

Curtis and Leroy now work for the government.

They're overseeing the Bailout Program.

we have so much ice around my area here in Indiana, north of Terre Haute, that one could ice skate allthe way into town with ease. Been living here 67 years and never seen ice such as this. It is so thick my car runs over it and it doesn't even crack...

Jocko

That's exactly the type of ice storms we have here in NE Texas every few years. It's kinda funny how when folks from "up there" move "down here" and mock us for closing schools when there's just a tiny bit of snow beginning to accumulate....until they experience their first real ice storm that will often accompany the "little bit" of snow. We've had several true ice storms in my 57 and a half years that resulted in as much as 1 to 2 inches of solid ice on the roads alone. And, there are always a lot of trees (mostly the pines) that either get bent beyond future sawlog use, or just flat snap off due to the weight of the ice. In 1990 and 1991 my fishing buddy and I had such a bad case of cabin fever we hooked his boat to my Nissan 4x4 and made the 20 mile trip to the nearest power plant lake (semi warm water) to fish. Took an hour and forty five minutes both ways, and had to really struggle on the boat ramp, and, we weren't the only ones on the lake. Caught a LOT of catfish on one of those trips, and lived to tell about it. Would I do it today??? To put it politely, uuhhhh.....no. From what I hear, we have about a 50/50 chance of one of those events in the forcast for tonight or tomorrow.

I hate winter... but at least it's not 2010 anymore:)

Yea, I'm just waiting for the next big ice storm. Last one through here, pine trees snapping like tooth picks, no power for 3 or 4 days. Not as bad as Ike though, no power for 35 days here. SWMBO, demanded (and got) a natural gas powered generator. Can sort of live without the electricty but have a well and got to have electricty for the water!

It's not any better in Atlanta. It was 44 and starting to sleet when I put the car in the garage a few minutes ago. BTW Wynn, where did you find that degree mark - I don't have one on my keyboard.

BTW again Wynn, I went ahead and sent a check to Mark at Summit Gun Broker for $295 + $20 shipping to buy one of his ex-police S&W 4043's. It's a CHP's gun since they went to the 4043 TSW. He said he had some very clean ones, and he would pick out the best. He also had some 4006 TSW, but I went for the lighter weight in case I want to carry it. I really didn't want to start up another caliber, but I can't find a good 3rd gen 45 at a decent price. I miss that 4586 that was stolen even though it was big and heavy and I wasn't crazy about the DAO trigger.

key stroke: Fn+Alt+ku8 = °

the k = "2"
the u = "4"

ascii for the degree symbol is 248

°°°°

186 works in some cases

...plus I can shoot better than their gunsmiths ;)

Definitely truth to that statement. They may be able to assemble some sweet (and yes, pricey) guns - but their shooting could use more than a bit of help!! Maybe it was because they knew they were on camera? Or maybe they had to make the daughter look good? The shotgun doesn't count in my book anyway, but I would have chosen a 22 for dead-center work anyway. As for 35 days without power, God bless you for getting through the aftermaths of Ike like that. That gas powered generator's one thing we need to invest in one of these days.

Yup I am tinking about hookingup a power generator in my Harley garage. I have a propane 250 gallon furnave int he garage that requires power to turn it on and the fan etc, very small gnerator would do well for my 25 by 40 garge, but it would keep my 3 bikes and Porsche nice and warm.

A guy has to have some priorties u know!!! Have a TV there and a small vbeer box that naturaly wold ahve to be powered up also. Again a guy has to have his priorites u know...

MikeyKhar - Thanks and Yes, it was not a fun time here after Ike. Big problem if you had a generator run off of gasoline. Most of the gas stations did not have any power where I live and you had to go somewhere where they did have power.

jocko - Depending on the size (hp) and starting amps for the fan in the furnace and how many other things you want to power up (beer box for sure) the propane powered generator is the way to go especially since you have the tank already. Just have to make sure that it is near full. Those little things can suck down some fuel but you can ration it!

O'Dell, turn the numeric keypad on and then hold down ALT while pressing 2 4 8 on the keypad= °.

On the Check Mate magazine test today I had no good results. I wound up with three of the regular 8-round SS CM magazines that didn't malfunction... out of 8!! I need to send some emails to Check-Mate and check on some things. I wound up with 4 or 5 of them with the spring popping out in front of the follower... a show stopper, especially when those are welded-base mags. I have pictures and all, but need to get some stuff done around here for SWMBO. I'm sure disappointed, though. I did confirm the front post was too tall. Aiming by putting the base of the front sight where it contacts the slide over the post worked... not too bad for 7 yards but not fine enough for 15 yards.

I googled ascii several times in the past and printed the tables. I have several at hand and I've gotten real familiar with a few... the degree and é, as in my wife's name Désirée... "desired one" in Français. I always forget ¢, which is 155. Foreign languages require a lot, as do the sciences. :) my biggest problem is forgetting to turn off the numeric keypad because I'm used to it as my cursor control.

Most people probably use the four arrows for that, but I've always used the ones on the numeric pad and I can't change, so I have the numeric keypad turned off at boot up.
I use the other keys Home, Ins, and Del, and so forth, too.

Hey, I used the base of the front sight on top of the rear post of my sights with the Champion today and that really works. It would be better if that useless post wasn't in the way. I couldn't shoot worth a darn at 15 yards, but was okay at 7. I have pictures and a report to do, but it's too late now and my computer is still halting for 2 to 4 minutes or so and uploading pictures is a real PITA... takes forever.

I'm going to try to get a quick nap before Wifey gets home. She'll want me to stay awake and operate the DVR. It aggravates her to have to wake me every time the commercials start. It aggravates me too... wakes me up!:D

Later, guys.

in MS Word you can set up the degree symbol as a "macro" which only requires holding down the ctrl key (or another function control key) and a single letter. I have it set up as CTRL+d, but in my business we use the degree symbol a lot. I also have my name, surveyor registration information, and a few often used words and paragraphs set up as macros that only require the ctrl+ (a single letter or a coupld of letters) to drop it into the document.

My instructions from above were for my laptop... I think the standard keyboards still allow you a bit more flexability. In the dos days, ascii codes were simple to use, but Winders fixed that.

Long ago I used to use command line or DOS a lot... programmed a lot in BASIC for simple stuff and to cheat on the OLD games... TRS-80... Model III, Commodore 64, and then on PC's.
Windows is just too big and complicated and shaky... house of cards... and now with major DRM... digital rights management in Windows 7... crimps my "style". I'll stick with XP... Media Edition or Professional, as long as it will work, then I'll switch to Ubuntu. I'm sick of the Windows rat race and the constant updates that never seem to end the problems or crashes.
G'night!

Never been a big fan of Windows but gotta use it.

Well the "big ice storm of 2011" has messed up Houston and I'm sure up around the Dallas area too. So far no rolling blackouts here at the house. No pine trees snapping branches off ontot the power lines. Keeping my fingers crossed. Idiots are piling up on the freeways. Glad I get to work out of my house.

Subject: 110203 An Experienced Hand

He held me firmly but gently just above my elbow and guided me into a room. I had never been there but I knew this was his room. I knew what he was going to do to me, and I knew I was going to let him. The door closed quietly and we were alone.

He approached silently from behind and spoke in a low, reassuring voice close to my ear. "Just relax."

Without warning, he reached down and I felt his strong, calloused hands start at my ankles, gently probing, and caressing upward along my tender calves slowly and steadily. My breath caught in my throat. I knew I should be afraid, but somehow I didn't care. His touch was so experienced, so sure.

When his hands moved under my skirt to my thighs I gave a slight shudder and partly closed my eyes. My pulse was pounding. His knowing fingers continued upward across my abdomen, my ribcage. And then, as he cupped my firm, full breasts in his hands, I inhaled sharply. Probing, searching, knowing what he wanted, his teasing hands quickly moved to my shoulders and slid down my tingling spine. My entire body was throbbing when he discovered my pink, lace thong.

Although I knew nothing about this man, I felt oddly trusting and expectant. "This is a man," I thought. A man used to taking charge. A man not used to taking "No" for an answer. A man who would tell me what he wanted. A man who would look into my soul and say...

"Okay all done. Here's your purse, ma'am. Have a nice flight."

Went shooting today. Shot my first 100 9mm reloads and all went well as did my shooting itself. The real highlight was my brass catcher was 100/100. It was quick and easy to set up and break down and all casings went into the collapsible basket or stuck between it and the side wall. One more tweak for looks and another project done.

I also got my first Midway Master Catalog today. My goodness I've never seen so much stuff for guns as in that book. I spent a couple hours just looking at the initial stuff I was interested in. Probably ought to just put it in the library where it'll get the most use.

So the weather here in Houston has improved since the last icing. Trying to get to the range but had to go out of town Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Work out of the "home office" on Wednesday. SWMBO decides that the TV room has to be redone, so hit Home Depot on Thursday to buy the wood, new blinds, etc. Can't have the stuff just sitting there, so install blinds on Thursday, cut and install all of the molding on Friday in between work at the home office.

Today, get up nice and early to put the range stuff together even though shooting at the range on Saturday is not what I like to do. Open the **** office email and find three of our biggest clients have problems that have to be taken care of right away. Probably will not get finished with them until this afternoon. :31:

That's all. Everyone have a good day.

i got one too and I have never bought one thing from Midway. that is one expensive catalog to be sending out IMO. I think the reason I got one is that they think I am friends of Bawanna. So thanks Bawanna for putting in the good word for me.

It replaces my sears and roebuck catalog out in the ol sh-t shanny. Someday I am going to get some of that real modern plumbing. Found two coons and 4 box turtles in the shanny yesterday. Something ust be warming them up??? course two of thebox turtles were dead.:banplease:

I was just wondering how old you were when you got your first handgun?
My parents gave me a .22 western style 6 shooter for Christmas when I was 16.
I think I was 14 or 15 when they gave me a Marlin .22 semi for Christmas.
Of course Dad made sure I was responsible, and knew when and where to practice safely and how to handle and clean guns. We were living on a farm and I shot the heck out of those guns. There were plenty of varmits that needed to be dealt with. A lot of skunks got their days ended by that Marlin, (from a safe distance). And that pistol rode on the tractor with me most the time and end plenty of rats day. That was back around 1970. The hardware store would even sell me ammo back then.
I think nowadays it's against Federal Law to even show a minor a handgun (joking)

I got my first handguns young, I was maybe 6 or 7. I also got my first rifle for my first birthday. Those are two stories for another time.

Glad I live in Texas!

That would be a FOID and that would be Illinois. I always wondered why they called it FOID and not FOIP as technically it's "Firearm Owner's Identification Program".

When the "Grand" ( trapshooter's national championship) was moved to Ill. from Ohio, the state waived the FOID requirement to buy ammo so the out of state shooter could buy ammo there. Chicago & those crooks run the rest of that state. Where is the president from? Oh, Hawaii isn't it alledged? LOL

Not worth a new thread but worth sharing.

My son is a boat mechanic and was sent to Evinrude school this week in a town south of us well known for high crime and less than nice neighborhoods. One of the instructors asked if he was prone to carrying a firearm. I blew up and thought you anti gun miserable a hole. I blew too soon. He was letting him know that it wasn't a good part of town and he encouraged him to bring at least one.

He took his XD45 full size and as he was heading for the door I unstrapped my PM45 ankle rig and handed him it and an extra mag as well.
Told him to recon and report. When he got to his motel he requested more ammo! and my AR!! They booked him a room in the hood.
Ground floor with his pickup right outside the door. Said he didnt expect to get much sleep this week.

Dont anyone tell GaryB but I had to strap on the K40 in my other ankle rig. Figure while the bullets ain't as wide it'll get the job done if I survive the horrendous recoil. Maybe I should wear gloves this week just in case.

since your son is going to Evinrude school (I assume OMC), see if he can find out about a little "issue" the OMC factories may have had in the very early to mid 70's. Just see if he can find out if there was a rash of "foreign objects" discovered inside the reed chambers...particularly the 50 hp and 65 hp models. I personally know of 4 out of 6 in my old fishing group (including my own motor) that had either foreign screws bouncing around inside (one friend's motor was nearly totalled when the screw made it into the chamber) or steel wool and rags. We were wondering if their was some type of internal sabatoge going on and OMC never did a recall to check things out. None of us still have the motors now, but we've all been curious about the unlikely coincidences involved.

If he's attending Evinrude Hair Care Procucts School rather than the outboard motor school...never mind:D

I'll send him your question. I heard of a similar scenario at BMW or Mercedes where workers were putting stuff in the door panels etc that would create obnoxious rattles and stuff.

He's definitely at outboard school. I learned last week that I have a nephew who might be doing the hair product thing, apparently his genes are messed up. I knew his dad was a strange dude but little excuse for this. He seemed so normal thru school.

nope.... Evinrude and Johnson = OMC (or did)

All the motors we had problems with were Evinrude and Johnson... parts, cowlings and all would interchange between like year models.

Ok, I need a little help here. I have been trying to cut a key, and the last pin keeps getting cut a couple of thousandths to deep. The keys that I cut are IDENTICAL to each other, and except for the last pin to the original that I cut from. My questions is this: What the hell am I doing to cause this last pin to be cut too deeply? Thanks guys.

jlottmc
02-16-2011, 06:18 AM
That's what I thought too, but I tried everything I could to make sure that key bow was square. I thought there might be a piece of debris under some of it, no luck there either. I got them where they work if you put a little weight on the back, boss said that was good enough. Thing that really annoys me though is that I have that cutter dialed in on any other series of key, and am used to working with extremely tight tolerances, having grown up in a machine shop, and then doing tool and die making. This thing just aggravates me to no end is all.

Yeah, people just don't realize how much technical stuff actually goes into construction, and working with one's hands.
I was at a gas pump once in an industrial area (anther story about that place later), gassing up a van that belonged to the company I was the maintenance mechanic for, and this chump in a sliver Mercedes convertible pull in and after a minute or so tells me that he hates seeing blue collar types when he's getting gas. First time I heard that one. I even tried to do the sincere and articulate, but no this guy was a butt hole, and left in a huff. Before he did, I asked if he knew how to calculate the slope of a roof. This was after I realized I was getting no where with him, so I went back to smart of ass. His response was that he has a Visa card for things like that.

Classic Cleese at his best.

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance."

The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada. The Scots have raised their threat level from "Pissed Off" to "Let's get the Bastards." They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years. The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Collaborate" and "Surrender." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France 's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability.

Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides." The Germans have increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbor" and "Lose." Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels . The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy. Australia , meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No worries" to "She'll be alright, Mate." Two more escalation levels remain: "Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!" and "The barbie is canceled." So far no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation level.
