View Full Version : +p+ 147 grain ammo in p9?
Hello everybody,
I recently purchased a P9, and made a successful break-in period trip to the range last weekend. I've combed through the manual a few times, and maybe I'm just too tired from work crap all day, but I can't seem to find anywhere in the manual where it states if +P+ ammo is OK or not. I'd like to run Buffalo Bore +P+ 147 Grain JHP for DC. Obviously other than the obligatory test rounds, this is not something I plan to cycle very often. I'm currently carrying 115 Grain Critical Defense. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
DB

Well,i am no expert on the subject, but from what i have been able to ascertain is that +p+ can be an unstable round since it is beyond factory specifications. regular ammo and +p are loaded to SAAMI specs whereas +P+ can refer to any charge above this specification. This means that while the bullet will be hot, +p+ is a designation that varies between manufacturers and will not all be loaded to the same specifications.
Kahr states within the manual that use of +p is fine to use; but there is no mention of +p+ (to my knowledge) due to to the lack of specific pressure measurements
Hotter rounds will probably make the gun more of a handful, but i wouldn't assume it to be much worse than a .40
If you are just planning to test the rounds for function and use them for carry while using regular rounds for practice, you should be fine. keep in mind prolonged use of hotter rounds will cause greater wear on a polymer gun than regular rounds would
this is just my .02 cents on the subject, and like i mentioned i am no expert, if you are skeptic ask around or just stick with +p...
maybe some other guys on here can shed more light onto the subject for you
congratulations on the purchase...hope you enjoy your kahr

no +P+ in kahrs. I question why anyone would even want to shoot it. If u desire more power go to the 40 cal.
There is very few +P+ 9mm rounds available and there is a reason for that...

If you do shoot the hottest rounds, you may want to install the heavier 22# recoil spring from Wolff to help handle the load.

I don't know anything about the 147gr +P+ but I have shot the Winchester Ranger 127gr +P+ thru a Kahr P9 Covert and didn't experience any problems, actually it was quite accurate if I remember correctly. It had a little more umph to it but that was expected. But like the others have advised the +P+ ammo can be loaded way past SAAMI specs.

no doubt one can shoot SOME +P+ through their kahrs, if the +P+ was so popular, (which it isn't) guns would be more apt to shootum with ease. really no need for that round in the 9mm family in my opinion but like some say, one sometimes hs to shoot the most powerful round money can buy, for what ever reasons.
Kahrs are beefy, I would think they cold handle +P+,but I understand why kahr asks not to do it..
