View Full Version : An Airsoft stage to Zootshooting?
Story

Over on the Fedoralounge (a forum some of you are familiar with, and others who wish to expand their wardrobe should register on), a fellow planned to buy one of the airsoft Thompsons (with drum) and try to talk a wwII reenactor to organize an aerosoft shoot out, only instead of it being line a wwIi reenactment, it will be a public enemy style with shotguns, tommy guns and postols, and of course, true, vintage clothing.
In PA, there was a recent three gun shoot in late October billed as a "Zombie Shoot". One stage of the shoot was room-clearing, done with Airsoft weapons.

I saw one of those airsoft Thompsons at the 2009 SHOT Show. It was cool. I was going to put a link on the website to it but I couldn't remember the name of the company that made it. I tried searching a little and only found dealers. I'll try to track it down at the SHOT Show in January and get some pics and video (you could shoot it in their booth).

There's several levels of Airsoft Thompsons

Note that there's also a sawed-off Airsoft double barrel.

Do all the airsoft guns need to be cocked every time to fire a single shot? No full auto or semis that only need to be cocked once?

The airsoft Tommy I saw at SHOT was full-auto. Battery operated? I'll look for it in January.

There are motor-driven full-auto (AEG?) airsoft guns.

The wife wanted to know what I wanted for Xmas. Well after reading this thread and doing some homework there could only be one answer: an AEG 1928 Thompson Chicago Typewriter full auto airsoft gun. It should be here in about a week. The agony is that she's going to make me wait until Xmas to open the box!

I participated in an indoor airsoft "game" a while back at the invite of a good friend who is into that and paintball. There happened to be a fellow present using a gas powered Thompson. It was pretty nice. It had a unique sound that was more like a real firearm, although not nearly as loud. I enjoyed having him do room clearing with me as it was just neat to see someone using a classic gun as their main equipment. I cannot say that the airsoft guns providing any realistic shooting experience, but it was an interesting opportunity to work on some room clearing techniques. The airsoft guns (at least the good ones) did have realistic sights and controls, so there was an opportunity to work on sight picture and manipulation of the various weapon controls (selector, mag release, etc.) while under pressure.

I went back to the booth where I saw the airsoft Thompson at the SHOT Show last year. Palco Sports makes them and they are nice. The Undertaker, John Dillinger, Dame West and myself all want one. I took some videos of us shooting it and will post soon. Here's the link to the one we shot on Palco Sports' website...

Caveat : I am not an airsofter, not have I ever airsofted. This link was found while looking for something else, posted pro bono publica.
How some airsofters did a 24 hour QCB scenario (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b295/Takfire/OPFEARpromo-1.jpg)
So why post here? You know those "live action" Film Noire mystery theaters that involve all the audience? Or the ones designed to be played in someone's home or hotel?
eg See this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_mystery_game) and this (http://www.murder-mystery-game.com/)
Supposing an AZA group had a Saturday live fire shoot scheduled, why not carry it over into a Saturday night airsoft QCB/mystery theater event? Good for something near-to-Halloween and also good for the significant others (who aren't particularly *into* the live fire portion) to organize and staff.
Jus' throwin' that out there.
For those contemplating tackling something like this, here's 10 pages of backchatter on that event (http://metroatlantaairsoft.darkbb.com/t2625-sneak-peekop-fear-24-hour-cqb-airsoft-scenario)

@Story, Adams Mystery Playhouse in Denver ran a 1920s gangster themed murder mystery party (http://www.adamsmysteryplayhouse.com/cal_jan.htm). We thought about doing it one night during the weekend of the World Championship in September but it happens to be their "Murder at the Luau" at that time. I think you can book private parties but that may have to wait until next year.
