Just finished sending my PM9 matte stainless slide to Kahr--here's what happened. I just got the gun yesterday and went by the range and ran 100 American Eagle thru it. no problems whatsoever, and this in the break in!
Upon cleaning that evening, the slide was somewhat dirty on the outside, so I used Hoppe's as I generally do. The residue would not come off the slide and appeared to be bonded into the metal. I tried CLP and Flitz as well. No effect at all! The stuff on the inside of the slide came right off. I spoke to Kahr this am and they said to. Send it in and they'd fix it. He said they have never heard of a complaint like this before.
Anyone experienced the same problem? BTW, the range was the S & W indoor range and clean as a whistle.

The slide was fine before my target session. Sorry about the lack of pics, your point is well taken!

Rhloew: you mentioned break-in, I assume the gun was purchased new? Please be sure to let us know what you learn from Kahr as I can't imagine what did this to your gun. Thanks for posting this.

Have a CW9 and the slide was stained, went through a house fire. Tried Clorox, which got some off but was still bad looking. A guy recommended muriatic acid which I tried with a Q-tip. Much better results, but still shows some. It's OK and I don't notice it much and live with it. Satin finish SS is more pourus than the shiny finish and it will stain. Could try acetone or brake cleaner, too. CLP and Hoppes has oil in it.
If you only have to send in the slide, may be worth it. But sending a whole gun with any carrier is expensive and painful. Send Kahr a pic and they may pay freight both ways.

Ive had a number of stainless guns, Tom and I've never seen this before. I can only assume that it was something in Kahr's mfg process, at least until they tell me otherwise. So, youre saying that I should regularly use brake cleaner instead of Hoppe's on this particular gun?

i doubt if brake cleaner, gun scrubber will help even. Unless it is crude itself, most cleaners won't help the stain. Not to sure any more if one can find any of these spray cleaners that are not non chlorinated.
No cleaners should ever be put on wood grips, no matter who makes it. Now i have to disagree that you can spray gun scrubber or non clholorinated brake cleaner on polymer and it wont harm it. At lease on my two polymer kahrs I spray the lower part of thegun with 3M non chlorinated brake cleaner and it does nothing excpet clean those ares totally of evertyhing and the will include any olils or grease that you put on moving parts, so relubing is a must...

Anything I recommended was for the slide only, applied with a Q-tip sparingly - not a complete bath to the entire gun.
You don't have a clue where this came from? Something in your holster, carry bag, set it down on something while it was hot?

Aside from that issue, the chemical make up of non chlorinated brake cleaner is a potential health hazard... QUOTE;
as is gun scrubber, hoppes, one has to use some common sense with any cleaner. have no idea what the make up is on sig grips but probably best to keep if off of any plastic grip. As far as kahrs polymer grip I can say I have spray cleaned my PM9 probably well over 100 times with gun scrubber at first but it was just to expensive and have since used the 3m brand of brake cleaner and my grips looks the same in the end as they did before I spray cleaned them. I can't attest to what other guns have in them but I can say that it is safe to use on kahrs polymer grips... Although I clean my G 19 the same way and it looks the same, other than totally clean after doing it.
I did ruin my nice Herretts stocks off of my Model 60 due to using a cleaning solvent and Bawanna saved them for me with his excellent refinish work....It was my fault and I dripped some Hoppes #9 on the grips and that was it for the finish.
There has been many kahr owners on this forum who have used the 3M brand that I recommended and to my knowledge not one has ever reported back of the polymer being ruined and I would be very sure that if that indeed happend they would have and should have reported it back to this forum also. I personally would never had mentioned it either had I not used it on my Glock and Smith M & P and my 3 kahrs many many times before ever joining this forum. I had no perosnal gain in it. My point was that is was less than $2 a can and the ingredients was damn near the same as gun scrubber and many other spray gun cleaners. certainly don't drink it, certainly and I have stated also to wear rubber gloves or be very careful when spraying as those spray cleaners (including gun scrubber) will take the oils out of your skin fast and dried skin is never a good thing. again some common sense has to be used in any cleaner be it a spray or some of these paste bore cleaners, some are meant not to sit in the bore a long time etc. So if u have any doubts about 3M, certainly don't use it, go to gander mt and buy their gun spray cleaners, they are great cleaners indeed. I think the results are the same, only the price is different. In no way do I want anyone to mess up their guns over my recommendation.... I was only trying to help, not hinder..

I use the non chlorinated brake cleaner and then use hoppe's gun oil all over the polymer frame and it looks great. Rub the oil off with a cleaning patch and the gun looks nice, better than when I bought it.

Rhloew,
Please let us know what the cause of this problem turns out to be....if you ever find out. Thanks.

what is strange that the discoloring occured after a shoot, as it was not there prior to that. One would have thought if it was stained or discolored, it would have come that way. Very strange. I would think the Muratic acid would be a good thing to try, . certanly ur not gonna hurt it any more than it is.
course if kahr is gonna tale a look at it, just send it back and get their opinion. I hate to venture any opinion either...

try some mothers mag and aluminum polish from wally world. Scrub the hell out of it. I put a mirror finish on my revolver with this stuff.

Just got a brand new slide back from Kahr. Break in, here we go again!!
No word from Kahr on why staining may have happened.

What kind of staining was it? A darker shade stain or a lighter shade stain? Was it splotchy, speckled, etc.? Did you take any pictures?

Wow, a new slide... congrats (assuming your happy about it).
GunScrubber/Brake Cleaner - I've only had one mishap with this stuff... the very first time I cleaned my brand spankin' new XDm40 I sprayed this on the slide and the white dot on my front sight ran off... I didn't soak it or spray it directly on the sight, but it ran down the slide and immediately removed the (obviously) painted on sight... hurt at first, but a pin and some tester touch up paint and lesson learned... I still use it, but with caution...
