Hi all,Just got a new CW45 ( already owned a cw9 that was flawless)and took it to the range today,(did the Jocko prep first)first shot the front sight comes off:( this isnt good.http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll27/funkdrawer4/cwsight.jpg

But i wanted to break it in so I decided to just point and shoot.Easy to hit a 2'x3' target at 21 ft.But it doesnt like TULAMMO steel case ammo at all,I guess you get what you pay for.14.50 box of 50 .it wouldnt even go into battery with it.I took the barrel out and tried to just drop them in,they would not go in,(My glock 36 eats this stuff up)thats a tight breach! So I went and got a box of federal from the range. This will work right?About 3 out of each mag I ran through it would not go into full battery.http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll27/funkdrawer4/cw45ftrtb.jpg.It took a rap of my hand to get it to go forward.I shot that box of 50,then all I had left was my winchester 230jhp's so I shot them ,as I neared the end of my ammo It seemed to clear up.I emailed Kahr about the sight but not about the other issue as I know they need a break in .Was emailing the way to do it or should I call too?I know the guys at the range would put a new sight on for free if I had it.Thanks for listening. Recoolyer,

My advice is to spend the extra cash for a metal sight. I've removed two of the OEM sights to install night sights and in both cases the plastic sight came off so easily that I'm surprised their failure rate isn't pandemic.

Kahr and Dawson Precision offer several sight options for the CW series pistols. FWIW, the Trijicon sights from Kahr are only offered as a set on their website, but I was able to order just the front sight by contacting a sales rep.

As you say your failure to go into battery issue seemed to clear up towards the end of your range session, it's quite possible that a little break in was/is needed. Early on, my CW45 was sluggish when chambering a particular brand of ammo, but with use that is no longer an issue.

Regards,
Greg

Sorry to hear about the issues with your CW45. I picked one up a few weeks ago and other then a bad primer (good strike but no boom) and one fail to eject it's cycled everything I've fed it. The recoil spring was very stiff through the first hundred rounds making running the slide difficult but by the end of the 2nd hundred rounds it's very smooth.

I'm still not sure on whether I'll change the sights. Let us know how the installation goes. I've heard from some it's so simple a caveman could do but if it's possible to screw it up I'd find a way to do it.

Greg, can you give the details of exactly who you contacted, and how much did it cost total for the Trijicon front sight only? Thanks!

The plastic front sight on my CW9 bothers me, and from the sound of it for good reason. I am gone to send XS an email to ask if they have any plans to make a big dot sight set for the CW/CM line of pistols also.

Right guys! Right! Make sure to have duct tape, electricians tape, hot glue (with gun). Elmers. Hammer (large) kitchen knife, and some pine sap.

We can fix anything.

I've never installed the plastic sight, but I do know you will need to melt the posts to hold the sight in place. Kel-Tec uses the same system on their PF9 and P-11 pistols; so here's some info from the KTOG forum:
http://www.ktog.org/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1287183163
"REPLACING SIGHTS

INSTRUCTION FOR REPLACING PF-9 FRONT SIGHT:

The PF-9/P11 front sight has two little plastic legs under it. The sight is attached by putting the legs through the two holes in the top of the slide and peening over (melting) the plastic legs on the inside of the slide.

TO REMOVE SIGHT:

With a soldering iron or woodburner iron, (or something that you heated in the gas stove burner) gently heat the two prongs until they soften enough to pull the sight out with pliers. Now clean all residual plastic out of the slide.

TO INSTALL SIGHT:

Place new sight into holes. (make sure dot is facing rear.) With aforesaid melting tool, gently peen over the ends of the legs while holding pressure down on the sight to assure a tight fit. Make sure that no plastic hangs down to interfere with barrel."

I'd apply a little red Loctite as well.

Greg

Well my sight still had one of the two legs still on it although it wasnt very long I was able to melt it back on for now.Kahr is sending me a new one.I took it to the range and shot 50 more rounds through it putting it about 175,
I had no issues with the FTRTB ! This was a good trip to the range.A few more through and I will run my PP rounds.

Forget the plastic Kahr sight and order a good metal one from Dawson Precision. You'll be a lot happier in the long run. The flip side is it came off on it's own and you didn't have to break it off to install the new one. The Dawson sights are great and they send you all the stuff to install it with, including directions. All you supply is a small hammer.

Wow, that's crazy. I'll know what happened if I see something black flip off my CW45.

Though, I'm probably going to replace the sights with some night sights, perhaps like the XS Big Dot sights or Meprolights.

Recycooler, I also bought a CW45 about 4 or 5 weeks ago and have put some 200 rds through it so far and had not a single problem. I did read all the info. on the FAQ of the Kahr's site and the owner's manual and it was very helpful.

I guess that my next upgrade will be that Dawson front sight that jefrey and jocko mentioned.

It is really more of an inconvenience,I love the gun ,I had a Glock 36 that I sold and bought this one.I looked on the Dawson sight .I wonder if big dot sells just a front?

As far as the Tulammo or any other steel cased European stuff - they have an additional lacquer coating on them to inhibit rust. This coating willl also be problematic when run through a very hot gun - temperature hot, that is.

Have a P380 that balked like crazy with Herters when it was new. My Kel-Tec 380 ate it up. New Kahr, well worn Kel-Tec. So new, tight guns can be fussy with this stuff. Only 380 ammo available at the time.

Shoot that stuff exclusively in my AK and it shoots like a dream. But the AK is 40 years old and nice and loose...

I just set the Tulammo aside for future use.I will stick to the brass as it is only a few bucks more and I'm saving it for reloading.
