Does the magazine spring have a preferred orientation (either up/down or forward backwards)?
Reason I ask is that as I have been cleaning my CW9 and its magazines, I initially tried to be very careful & keep all of the springs in the magazine placed in the same orientation they were in when I originally bought the gun (used). Alas eventually they got bumped off of the table one day and now I can’t recall how they all faced. (I used to have two 7 rounders and one extended 8 rounder – I just bought a third 7 rounder – see below.)
I put them in the way it “felt right” and moved on. However on one of my magazines I was having trouble getting the final bullet to fit into the mag without excessive force. (This was before I bought my Uplula.) I flipped it around and it seemed to work better. In another incident I had a FTF and blamed the magazine spring orientation, but now I’m thinking perhaps it was the problem described by Wynn here: http://kahrtalk.com/showpost.php?p=51662&postcount=7 (http://kahrtalk.com/showpost.php?p=51662&postcount=7) Although he was discussing the PM, I’m wondering if a similar problem didn’t affect my CW as well?
I hopped online hoping the manual would show the spring orientation, which it did here: http://www.kahr.com/PDF/kahrmanual.pdf (http://www.kahr.com/PDF/kahrmanual.pdf) It shows the “open” part of the spring forward. Dunno if that is critical (like it is on the recoil spring) or not, but regardless I viewed that as a Kahr Official Position and once again moved on.
Last weekend, I bought a new Kahr magazine from a gun show. (I wanted a third 7 round mag as I’d like to get into IDPA this summer & was told I needed 3 magazines of identical capacity.) When I opened up the magazine, darned if the “open end” of the spring wasn’t facing backwards!
So I’m totally confused now. I’m also wondering if there is a discernable top or bottom too, but first I’d like to know which side needs to face forward, or whether or not it even matters.
Thoughts? Thanks.
