View Full Version : Need a New Gun

I have a bad itch to buy a new weapon. I've been looking at some Colt Pythons. Never been much of a wheel gun guy, but I must say those are some sharp looking guns. Bit on the pricey side given their reputation and the fact that they're no longer manufactured. One of these days I'm going to sneak out of the house on an errand and be gone a little longer than my little woman expects. :p

Yes, the gun bug has a strong hold on me at the moment. Not sure I can resist much longer.

Yeah, I'm with ya Cruizer. Been wanting a 1911 for quite a while now. Unfortunately, everytime I mention it around the house, I get that look from my wife. You know, THE LOOK!!!!!:(

I did not/have not told my wife about the purchase of a PM9 last week. I had not purchased a new gun for years and would not have purchased the PM9 if it was not going to fill a specific purpose.

I too am living with the sickness right now. The wife just got a job, so month after next I'm going to resume playing. I'm in the market for a commander length 1911, a Taurus 740 slim, a CETME, SKS, and perhaps an AK, just to start. If I find a K40, or a single action 44 mag with a 5 1/2" bbl, well they may follow me home at some point too. I'm just plotting right now. My wife green lighted me to have a little slush fund that I can use for things like this, but I don't get to keep it while she was out of work. I still say she owes me one. Maybe a Ruger SR-40, as I just got a Smith SD-40. Hmmm, time will tell, we're all in this together, and I'm real sure that the bug has more than just us bitten.

I married my wife for her looks, just not the looks she gives me when I bring home a new gun. :(

Dude, you don't ASK your woman what you can do. You TELL her what you are doing or have already done. Scheeech.

I'll give you an example. Just this morning my wife told me that I needed to vaccuum the living room. I set her straight right then and there. I told her that when I finished dusting the hallway and doing the dishes I would vacuum but not a second before. I think she respects my assertiveness because she backed off and said "Ok, sweetie". ...... dam straight... I run this shizzz.

I really like trying to buy guns that are a lot of gun for the money. For wheel guns, I'm really fond of the Rugers. I've got 2 (had 3) GP100's that I love.

I'm not a fan of the high dollar 1911's. I've got an STI Spartan ($600-630) that looks good, works great, is a high quality gun and more accurate than my .22's. For us Kahr guys who don't mind paying a bit more and truly appreciate accuracy, the STI Spartan is a really good match-up.

You got that right....we have been together for 32 years and I still have no clue  from day to day what a look is to mean, it tends to change just as I think I have it figured out.

Like the look below......I think it meant how do you like my new bracelot?

I have nothing to add regarding "The Look" but I may be able to add something to the "What she says vs What she means" confusion.

You want = You want
We need = I want
It's your decision = The correct decision should be obvious by now.
Do what you want = You'll pay for this later.
We need to talk = I need to complain
Sure... go ahead = I don't want you to.
I'm not upset = Of course I'm upset, you moron!
You're ... so manly = You need a shave and you sweat a lot.
You're certainly attentive tonight. = Is sex all you ever think about?
I'm not emotional! And I'm not overreacting! = I'm on my period.
Be romantic, turn out the lights. = I have flabby thighs.
This kitchen is so inconvenient = I want a new house. .I want new curtains = and carpeting, and furniture, and wallpaper.....
I need wedding shoes = the other 40 pairs are the wrong shade of white.
Hang the picture there = NO, I mean hang it there!
I heard a noise = I noticed you were almost asleep.
Do you love me? = I'm going to ask for something expensive.
How much do you love me? = I did something today you're really not going to like.
I'll be ready in a minute. = Kick off your shoes and find a good game on T.V.
Is my butt fat? = Tell me I'm beautiful.
You have to learn to communicate. = Just agree with me.
Are you listening to me!? = [Too late, you're dead.]
I'm sorry. = You'll be sorry.
Do you like this recipe? = It's easy to fix, so you'd better get used to it.
Was that the baby? = Why don't you get out of bed and walk him until he goes to sleep.
I'm not yelling! = Yes I am yelling because I think this is important.
All we're going to buy is a soap dish = It goes without saying that we're stopping at the cosmetics department, the shoe department, I need to look at a few new pocket books, and OMIGOD those pink sheets would look great in the bedroom and did you bring your checkbook?

I am kind of fortunate in that my wife doesn't keep an inventory. So, when I pull out a new gun, she can't really remember if it's new or old. However, that didn't work too well when I brought my Bushmaster AR-15 home. It was way too different to be one of the plethora of handguns already in the gun safe. Darn the luck!

Around here the look is when I say something that she doesn't like and then that invisible radiation comes from her eyes and it's so powerful it even makes you yell "OUCH. OK! OK!"

Frank - I can certainly relate to the "What she says, what she means"

Example -
"You know what I'd like for you to do is go ahead and get the new car. You've been talking about this for the last two years."

So I get the new car.:D

Her - Now it's - "I need a back up camera for my (her) car."
"I need a mat for the back of the car"
"We need to install a paved driveway"
"You know, we need a parking spot for the kids when they come to visit"
"We'll have to take out some trees for the parking spot"
And on and on and on and on.:32:

So, three pine trees were cut down yesterday. And the tree guys are cleaning up today. They are also cutting down an old oak tree that has been leaning over the driveway for the last 28 years. But it is dieing so, this is OK by me.

I also have the bug but with a different twist. Next Tuesday, I am picking up a new revolver for the wife! :D She is getting a Ruger SP101 with 2 inch barrel. I already have a Ruger SP101 (w/3 inch barrel) but she took it many years ago. It was the only gun she liked (for protection). I want it back! :32:

Soooo....., next Tuesday, she can have her choice of 2 or 3 inch barrel, I do not really care, I just want my revolver back. She does not mind the extra weight of the (built like a tank) SP101. It helps minimize recoil. Both guns are chambered in .357 mag but she shoots 38 plus P's. I use .357 mag.

You can shoot high test in the SP101 all day without fear of hurting the gun. Can't do that with other revolvers. I have seen frames stretch on S&W's.

She will shoot both guns and determine which one she likes best and I will take the other. Sounds like a fair deal doesn't it? ;)

MW surveyor

Definitely a fair deal as long as you get to have one of them!

You must know my wife huh?

I bought one of those really nice but expensive Exectutive Surefire flashlights at a gunshow a year ago or so. The guy offered me a really good LE discount. I brought it home so proud. She chewed me out big time for spending so much on a flashlight. Started playing with it and the next thing I know I haven't seen it since. She ask for batteries now and then so I know she still has it.
I had to buy a Fenix at half the price, darn good light but not as good as the Surefiire.

WMD your cleared to purchase, just don't let her hold both at the same time you could get the short straw. Ya know?

Nah but I know mine. If she sees something of mine she likes, it is pretty much gone.

jlottmc - However, sometimes I can get her the same and she'll be happy.

WMD - I'll bet that she just might want to have both. Hahaha

AFVet - Just to get this thread back on some sort of track. - Just go for it. We'll back you up all the way. (Snicker)

A quick update! I bought the new SP101 the other day. After a close examination, it seems to be in pefect order. Rather nice looking revolver I might add. Soooo...., ask the wife to go to the range today to shoot both SP's. She says "no not now, I have other things to do". I say "OK, I will take the little gun out and give it a go!" She says "OK, see you later".

Anyway, I am amazed at the Ruger. The new gun was made in Newport, NH. My other Ruger was made in Connecticut. It is incredible that they both look and perform exactly alike. Considering they were both made in two different locations, I am quite impressed. They each hit in the exact same spot Recoil difference is very slight. You can feel the slightly extra weight of the 3 inch barrel when you pull the gun up to sight it. The extra weight actually helps you hold it steady. That being said, the difference is so nominal that unless you were looking for it, you may not even notice.

Bottom line? I will be happy with whatever gun she does not want. I have decided, she cannot have them both. I have put my foot down!:D

They are supposed to look alike only one has a longer barrel. ;)

Had mine out on last Monday. Let the young RO run a few cylinders through it since he expressed interest. He couldn't believe how naturally the gun pointed, how smooth the DA was or its accuracy at 15 yards. All I could say was yes it does, it is smooth (after I don't know how many rounds and a slight trigger job) and yes it is extremely accurate.

Enjoy! And keep that foot down.

I wish you well with that foot thing. I know a guy who tried that, and now rolls around in pieces. He lost his right leg, and both shoulders are messed up bad. Guy is a trip too. Good Luck there.

WMD
02-26-2011, 08:30 PM
Actually, they do not quite look alike. The markings have been changed a bit over the years. Not a big deal though. In terms of the foot thing...? Well.....,
My foot is still down. It will continue to be down until I can remove the nail my wife used when she nailed it to the floor.

I will not be going out to be another gun too soon! :D

(well...., maybe in a week or two!)

In all seriousness, my older SP's trigger pull is much smoother then the new one. Course, I did some work on the trigger when I first got it. I will do the same to the new one as well.
