I've been looking forward to a trip to the range with my new PM45 for the past couple of weeks and finally had the time to make the journey.

I'll preface this report by saying I hadn't had a chance to go shoot since sometime around the end of Nov last year and I strictly took the PM to the range with the intent of running break-in/function checks and had no intention of shooting for accuracy.

I packed up a total of 200rds of 230 grain ball ammo, 100 Winchester White Box, and 100 Blazer Brass, and when I got to the range I picked up another box of 50rds of 230gr Independence brand ammo.

The range is indoors, with a max distance of 25 yards (75feet) the majority of what I shot today was done at 10 yards.

I decided to bring the target in to 7 yards for the final 100 rounds of ammo.

This is another 25 rounds of Blazer shot at 7 yards

Up to this point, all shots were fired 2 handed, standing.

Here I decided to put 2 mags of 5 rounds on the target 1 handed

Weak hand

Yes there are only 4 holes on the weak hand target shot, cause I missed one!

In the 250 rounds fired I had 3 issues:

On round 45 I had a failure to return to battery (with the Winchester ammo)

On round 176 I had a stove pipe (also with the Winchester ammo)

And on round 178 the slide locked back* as the slide lock/release and worked out some causing the slide to jam (this also would have been with Winchester)

The striker hit's on the primers look just as I expected them to

(orientation of this pic is off, hit's are about center with a little "streak" towards the bottom of the case)

*I believe the slide locking up was my fault as around 150 rounds I thought I'd take the slide off and inspect the internals. I started to push the slide release out and then changed my mind, and may not have seated it fully before shooting again.

What sight picture are you holding? 6:00 or covering target? Unless it is you getting used to the gun, you may have to file a little off of your front sight to bring your groups up a little.

For the first time ever I'm considering putting a "grip cover" (ie:bicycle tube) on a gun as I found the back strap rougher then I would have expected and I'm not brave enough to try and file it down any, especially since it's a new gun (might just be the fact that I haven't shot in a while though so we'll see)

I also will have to get used to the sights, as most of the guns I shoot on a regular basis have 3 dot sights, and not "dot the i" type.

Overall I'm quite pleased with how things went, and will put a few more "function" rounds thru it before working on/testing accuracy.

I'm also going to try and pick up some 185gr ammo for range use, as my typical carry choice in short barrel .45's is (usually) something in a 185gr bullet.

With all that said, I'm very much looking forward to the next outing with it! :yo:

edit to add: I'll also mention that while the owners manual basically say's the "slingshot method" shouldn't be used to release the slide, I used it the majority of the time I was shooting today, and had no problems in doing so.

Wasn't shooting for accuracy in any fashion, and as stated (you snuck your post in before I was done...lol) I'm used to shooting 3 dot sights, so I'm guessing it's more me then the gun.

I also have zero intention of filing anything off the sights, will make adjustments to sight picture as needed and may put on night sights or fiber optics (such as Williams Fire Sights) at some point.

Those are very typical of people shooting a new kahr or who haven't shot one in awhile. Mine were very similar and your already getting used to the trigger. That's whats throwing you low left.
It will get better and better and it already is. You can see that in your later targets.
Very similar trip as I had with my PM45.

Yeah the trigger is certainly different then other guns (not in a bad way) and I doubt it will take all that long to really get used to, besides it gives me an "excuse" to go to the range more often...:D

I have found that my PM45 likes a "hard" hold and a healthy "push/pull" presentation.

I'm hoping to get off to the range tomorrow for round 2 of my break in.

I want to put another 50-100rds thru it strictly for break in purposes, then I'll start shooting it for accuracy and testing a couple types of sd ammo for function.

If I can't/don't make it out tomorrow, it'll be at least another week before I get to hit the range again...:(

Your early shots are what I experienced with my PM9, my first polymer DAO pistol.

It's very hard to just pull the trigger and not cause other movements to the gun. I have to really concentrate and still start jerking or squeezing.

Same for me especially if I don`t shoot for a while.Bad habits have a way of finding their way back to me.

And now I have that nice 1911 with decent sights... single action. I do the same thing with it. I have to concentrate on not jerking... I get in a hurry and sprinkle the target.
I sure like the Champion but it's too big to carry CCW. I tried that yesterday with several holsters and it really shows. I didn't have my loosest shirts on, but It's a load, especially in summer wear and shorts.

Oh, now I tend to shoot high with sights on the 1911. So I get the sights lined up and then point. I hate to look at the sights very long... all fuzzy and all.
