I am looking for a small gun safe like the gun vault that you can put one or two guns in and set it beside your bed. Basically I don't want anyone just picking up the two guns.. It is less for keeping them from getting stolen than keeping them out of hands of children or anyone else. The gun vaults look nice and exactly like what I want, but they don't get the best reviews. Something that you can get into quickly, but if you don't know the code then it is much harder. I also don't want to have to push buttons in the dark on a regular keypad. I like the idea of the hand shape or atleast the keypad lighting up. Suggestions?

I use 3 Gun vault Nano200's in our vehicles and another between the RV and bedside. Simple key. To be honest, they are there if I need it but rarely used. I have them cabled to the bed and the car seat. You can simply purchase longer cable for the bed. I would not spend the money on a more expensive device for this preventative purpose. They are not true gun vaults. They are a deterent, because someone can steal the entire vehicle. Beside the bed is used only when grandkids visit. Otherwise, just in the drawer of my night stand, ready to go. If the grand kids are here visiting, I lock the PM40 up. They work just fine. To get the smell out of the foam padding there is a thread somewhere you can search, that I posted a while back. Can't remember where it is. The most I've used the Nanno 200 is when on vacation in the RV, under the seat cabled. Otherwise, it is in the cars, just in case. They can be moved around too. The finger sensor or combo units were not rated well. Sometimes fail to open. A key is simple and works. Just leave the key on your vehicle key chain for bed side use. A simple turn of the key at night and you won't forget your car keys or gun the next morning. If kids are around, simply remove the key.
$16each on Amazon. Cheap, functional deterants. Why spend more, unless you want a real vault for better protection. Think about it. Maybe not for everyone but just my opinion.

I have a gunvault 2000 deluxe. Quick access, runs on batteries. The deluxe model has a small little LED light inside that turns on for 5 seconds when opened, and comes with an AC adapter to keep it plugged in. Got mine on ebay for $129 shipped to my door. I'm pleased with it, not going to keep someone from stealing the guns, but thats not its intended use.

I have one of those like garyb is talking about, it works ok when I have to disarm, but then again, I have to remember to bring it. Sometimes I keep it in my back pack and just conceal my pistol that way. Only have one gun it doesn't like and that being my GP100. My 1911, and CZ-52 fit just fine, and I can put the reloads in there too. It's just enough to slow some one down until they get a screwdriver.
I use a sentinal safe bought at Menards 70.00 on sale. It has 4-6 digit code and is biomteric, will take up to 21 finger prints to open. Looked at gunvaults at Cabelas.Wife will be impressed when she finds out I bolted it not only to wall but the dresser it sits on!

The mechanical simplex type system is probably the most reliable, and with a little practice doesn't really take much time to open*.
Take a look at this site and see which type you think would work best for you:
Pistol Safes (http://www.safetysafeguards.com/)
The shop around for the best price on the model you like.
*note: I don't have one on a pistol safe, but have used that style lock elsewhere with work.

How do you attach it so they don't run off with your safe? I don't see any cable. Tx.
