View Full Version : It Finally Happened...Failure to Feed

While taking a self defense class with my CW9, I achieved my first failure to feed. Technically, I've had a few FTF before, but they were due to me riding the slide forward when loading a new magazine. This was the first that was the total fault of the gun.
I've put 300-350 rounds through it, so I guess I can't complain about a single FTF. It just sucks that my little CW9's perfect record is now tarnished.
Anyway, a tap and half-rack allowed it to load properly. I didn't bother with a full rack because, since the ejector wasn't engaged, I knew a full rack wouldn't do anything a half rack would do.

I blame it on the ammo. Stupid bullets dont know when to act right. :P

First round or another? I had one on my P9 during my last range visit. They happen. My record is 1 in 2334 rounds. Irritates me, and I do think about it, but that's not a bad record.

it could be a number of reasons why that happened. so just forget about it and shoot it like you stole it.

It was the third or fourth round in the magazine, and I have been using cheap Russian ammo, so who knows...

Well obviously cheap ammo is a suspect... After 300+ rounds of it, however, I would have thought a lack of quality would have presented itself already. If the only liability of cheap ammo is a 1/350 failure rate, either Kahr's are REALLY great at feeding everything, or cheap ammo isn't nearly the leper that everyone claims it is.

Or maybe some of both. That is a pretty good track record if your feeding a steady diet of that same ammo. 1/350 ain't real bad.

All of that Russian steel cased stuff is "coated"... lately with a polymer. I can't help but think that that stuff comes off in the chamber and accumulates a bit.
I stick to brass cased ammo... mostly U.S., like Federal and the WWB... all at Walmart. The steel stuff has to be harder on your chamber, feed ramp, and possibly even the magazine(??) I bought some Wolf .45 a long time ago and used the last of it with my PM45 last year. I couldn't wait to be done with the stinky, smokey stuff. I can get good U.S. stuff cheaper these days.

Until the gun blows up in your hand.

Deal! When the gun literally blows up in my hand, then I will come on here and -- typing with one hand of course --declare that Kahr's suck...err..no wait, what am I supposed to say? Oh right, that cheap ammo is a leper. Got it.

Hopefully you'll be useing a Kahr if that unlucky day ever comes and you'll probably still have both hands.
I've seen cheep ammo blow up more than one gun.
I don't even like to be standing next to someone shooting cheep "40 cal." ammo.
