Over on GlockTalk, I think, I was perusing the 9mm forum and saw a picture of a 1911 style, 3" barrel 9mm single stack. I've always liked the 1911 so I was interested. Went out to STI International's stite and sure enough, they have 3 different 9mm 3" barrel 1911 pistols. Sadly, they are priced way beyond my means. Give the pride STI has in their pistols, I was wondering if any of you guys has had experience with these guns, For what STI charges, they must be great pistols.

Well, I'll tell you what. My STI Spartan 9 is the most accurate pistol I own, and that includes being more accurate than my Ruger Mark IIIs or my Browning Buckmark. I LOVE this STI, and at $630, I think it is a fantastic pistol for the money. They also announced a commander sized Spartan at SHOT.

Here't the photo of the one from SHOT. I'd guess you'll be able to pick it up for $630 as well.

Those prices aren't so bad. The ones I looked at on STI's site ranged from $1,100-$1,500. Have your pistols been reliable?

Most of their guns are much more. The Spartan is one of the few I could afford... and 9mm, I can actually afford to shoot it too. :)

I've had well over a thousand rounds through mine and have had 2 FTF's, but both were my reloads. I typically load to near max COAL, so I have to assume that I may have had one just a little to long for reliable operation. Never any problem w/ any factory ammo.

I was looking at my 2011 Buyers Annual of " Gun" magazine, and ther's two models, "Duty One"--$699 - $1944, and GP6 for $656 - $855 , not too bad, but if you got big bucks, then there's the Executive, $1649 - $3655.

STI makes great race guns as well as carry guns. I think that Dawson Precision (http://www.dawsonprecision.com/CategoryProductList.jsp?cat=FIREARMS:STI+Pistols) is their largest Dealer.

I posted this previously. These two entry level STI Spartans have really helped me take my IDPA shooting up a notch. The Spartan 9 had a bad extractor, but one call to STI had a replacement extractor at my door in a bit over a week and it did fix the problem.

I can highly recommend the Spartan. I'm seriously considering a Shadow for a EDC. STI makes some good stuff.

Boy, I just returned from the Dawson Precision site. What chance does a 66 year old child like myself have to hang on to his cash when there are so many beautiful guns to buy.

If you really want to start drooling, check out SVI. I'm not 100% clear on the relationship of STI and SVI other than the are related. SVI turns out the extreme race guns and also some carry pistols.

If I ever find myself with an extra $8k burning a hole in my pocket, I would love to get one of these. http://www.sviguns.com/1202.php

I really like the titanium pistol. If I carried it and had to use it, the police would probably shoot me when I refused to turn it over.
