View Full Version : Mk9
Just bought used MK9 Elite 03 (my third Kahr) from the Cabela's.
I figured that there may be some problem with it, since it was not been used much.
At home I did full inspection. I loaded both mags and stripped rounds by hand. I noticed that one mag follower would hung up on locking notch sometimes.
I went to the shooting range today and mag that was OK had zero mulfanctions, the other one was cousing slide locking and one FTE in the middle of number of rounds in the mag. That's about where the follower would hung up.
It seams that pistol works perfect with exception of the bad mag.
One other issue- rear sight moved to the left from the recoil.
What would be best and / or easy way to fix that problem?

#1 buy a new magazine follower and u should be good to go there.
#2. A slight tap with a punch on one of the dovetails in the slide will tighten it up but still enable u to move it if necessary. Odd that that rear sight moves so easily, normally kahrs sights are damn near welded in place. Unless it has been replaced. Nice gun.
Now just shoot it like u stole it
Thanks, I will do that.

Looks like an aftermarket sight on that MK. Apparently they sized it a little under size. Do like Jocko said and smack the top of the dovetails a couple wacks and it should hold. If its too loose you can drive the sight back out, then peen the dovetails down a little and tap the sight back in.
Use red LOCTITE to secure the loose sight...just a drop on the dovetail and allow it to seep under the base.
Thanks, I will try that first.
I did use red locktite and actually had to use punch and small hammer to drive rear sight into the position and that with the locktite wet. Before I was able to use my hands to push it in. After locktite sets it should be much better.
I used small sharp blade from my pocket knive (SAK) to scrape sharp edges on plastic follower and initial test showed no hunging up problems.
I will test both fixes this Sunday in real test (shooting).
If problems were not fixed than it is time for plan B.
Shot MK9 today and no mulfanctions of any kind.
Rear sight did not moved neither :D.
Whould it be that all those malfunctions were coused by the mag or should I say follower?

check to see if that metal pin in the follower has not moved outward. Give it a push to see if it will move inward. I always toake my new followers and with some 600+ grip paper I just rub the followers on all sides against the grit paper and it will smooth hwat ever ruff edges are there..
The old gunsmiths trick for a loose dovetail is to remove the sight, then put the sight upside down in a padded (cardboard or leather) vice. Raise up some metal on the SIGHT with a center punch - even one of those automatic center punches does great. You want small punch marks, but a few of them, evenly spread out. Then re-install the sight.
Always alter the sight, not the dovetail.
