Hello, new member here. Just wanted to introduce myself and also confess to a mistake I knew better than to do in the first place. Went out with clients with my PM9 IWB appendix and my spare extended mag...in my front pocket. I was wearing silk blend casual pants (Miami) and of course, sometime during the evening, my magazine slid out of the pocket along with the seven rounds of high-end SD ammo. I even thought when I put the mag in my pocket, "these pants are really soft, I should have a mag carrier on my belt for this." I am officially a putz. Went on the Kahr website and they had 9M mags classified by capacity and not weapon. Which is the best choice to replace my lost mag?

Thanks to all, have enjoyed the forum very much.

While I prefer extended grip, higher capacity mags for reloads, I would advise against a 7-round extended grip because that one has given people more trouble with "diving" rounds and failures to chamber... usually sticking against the feed ramp.

The 9mm mags are very prone to lose rounds as the top round can wiggle and pop out. You should only carry a spare mag in a mag carrier that will prevent this... one with an appropriately angled base. Members have reported rounds migrating out of the loose magazines up to completely emptying the magazine.

After chambering a round from the magazine, drop the mag and make sure the top round is to the rear of the magazine. Most of us top off the mag and do this for defensive carry. You'll get AT LEAST two rounds off then. The top round also drags the next round forward and sometimes this results in the cartridge diving and jamming against the feed ramp.

You may not have these problems, but many have. I also bought some of the 8-round extended grip mags for my K9 and have not tested them to satisfaction, yet, with the PM9. I like extra capacity mags and the extended grip models are kinder to my ribs or lovehandles than the metal flush fit ones.

Oh, WELCOME to the forum, too, lot's of help and opinions here! :D

I think what Cartman is referring to is which model. Kahr magazines are pretty much universal and the PM9 is the shortest so all Kahr 9mm mags will fit and function just stick out to varying degrees.

The shortest mag is the 6 rounder, close to flush and may be marked MK or listed as such. Thats the one many prefer and if I was ordering thats the one I would get. Make the shipping pay and order 2 or 3, never have too many.

I had no clue they were universal. Makes perfect sense from a fabrication cost perspective. I have a K9 that never gets carried since the PM9 so I guess I have a back-up until I order the flush mags. I very much appreciate the swift responses!

Newer Kahr mags are stamped 9-6 or 9-7 (depending on the capacity of the mag) I think the older ones were MK9 as Bawanna eluded to.

I think your right, actually I know your right. I couldn't remember that new designation. Guess it was too simple for my simple mind to grasp. That might actually be a good way of numbering them if I can ever remember. Both will work.

If they fit all of the Kahr guns, it makes a ton of sense to number them the new way...

Welcome to the forum Cartman. Unlike some here, I have had no feeding issues with the 7rd. magazine for my PM9. I did have an issue with the rounds coming out of my spare mags. I fixed it by replacing the factory mag springs with 5% extra power magazine springs from Wolff (http://www.gunsprings.com/index.cfm?page=items&cID=1&mID=29#191)

Sorry for the delay, I was on the road. So I take the PM9 IWB, and this time I am in jeans the whole time, so I put the 7 rnd mag from my K9 in the small upper right pocket on my levis, thinking that it would hold the mag upright and it can't fall out. Several times during the day I heard a metallic "twang" but couldn't place it, until I got to my hotel at the end of the day and removed the mag to discover four rounds had popped out and were in the bottom of the pocket, just as had been described here. So this isn't an issue of getting the right mag carrier, it is an issue of getting the springs described above, is that correct?

The top round and subsequent rounds can still wiggle their way our. The top of the magazine needs to be encased and protected from jostling.

I replaced all of my Kahr 9mm springs with the stronger ones, but I still keep all of the mags I carry encased in Kydex holders with bottoms slanted properly to protect the top rounds.
