Whataya think? Which pistol ouside of the Kahr line would you guess is the PM9's closest competitore? I'd guess Kel-Tec's PF9 but maybe that's because my choice for a "tweener" quickly came down to these two pistols.
There are now so many subcompact single stack 9mm available on the market how does a person decide which will be best for their purposes?

Kimber Solo, Ruger LC9 would be the first 2 that come to my mind.
Also Rohrbaugh R9, possibly the Walther PPS.
Of all of them though, I still think the Kahr is the best of the bunch.
............. Width Weight Height Length Capacity .............
Ruger LC9 - .9" - 17.1oz - 4.5" - 6.0" - 7+1
Kahr PM9 - .9" - 15.9oz - 4.0" - 5.3" - 6+1 (7+1 w/ grip extension, add to height and weight)
Kimb Solo - 1.2" - 17oz - 3.9" - 5.5" - 6+1

Interesting, I kind of exclude pistols that might be close in size and weight if they have a different action or feel the need for a thumb safety as being competitors. Understand though that folks might pass on the PM9 for the very features I prefer on a SD pistol.

ki,mber solo is single action. U must have the safety on. I don't want that in my pocket. no doubt it is a dandy gun, yet unproven to the public
The Kel-Tec and Ruger LC9 are so similar... just like the P38T and the LCP are. I think both will appeal to different markets than the PM9.
You got Glock 26, Sig P250sub.
The part I didn't see in the thread was - the REAL serious competition, namely the Kahr CM9

I agree with CJB. I think it's closest competition is the LC9 I think it looks best out of all the rest except the PM9 its the absolute best. The LC9 probably has the smoothest trigger next to the PM9 but then again the LC9 is hammer fired so it's supposed to be smooth. I wonder how they get a striker fired gun to have such a smooth trigger???

I agree Jocko... totally, but they're not all that dis-similar, just one made a whole lot better.

The only other single stack 9mm I've had is Walther PPS and it's not really a pocket pistol. Good quality, but I sold it.
I like the looks of the Kimber Solo, but don't want a 1911 in my pocket or anything with a thumb safety.
Really, I think the PM9 is the best of the lot.

read in the NRA magazine that the kimber solo os 90% precocked. U damn well better have it on safety if ur gonna carry it in any position.

Yes, see that in the "Top Guns In 2011" article on pg. 52. Kahr CM9093 gets mention right above the Kimber stuff.

i have both pm9 and ruger lc9, the pm9 seems like more quality but with 400 rounds through both the lc9 has yet to have a problem pm9 still has ftf enough not to be trusted in my opinion. i hope it breaks in as others have mentioned.

Although it's got some different features I think eventually the closest competitor will be the Solo. It is supposedly 90% pre cocked but it is still striker fired. There are lots of 1911 fans out there that really like that idea. SIG sold a bunch of the 238s, mostly to those people. I've read lots of comments that have said that the Kimber trigger is better than the Kahr. (Funny, the Kahr is always picked as the one to beat.) The prices are going to be competitive and note that the Solo is all metal (albeit alum frame) There are still gobs of people out there that don't like tupperware. I'll have to see it to believe it's better than the Kahr but I think it's going to be a hot item. The marketing concept is good by sending it out to their special dealers instead of the gun rags. This lets people fondle them in person instead of drooling all over a magazine. The pre-orders are really piling up.
