Hey FWIW, as part of my pre-range "quality time" with my new PM45, I've been racking, dry firing. Oh probably well past 500 times by now.

I did field strip and clean, lube, and reassemble as part of pre-break in. Thing I did today was to take apart the top end and see what was going on in there, as the trigger was getting a little gritty feeling.

Holy crap what a load of sludge for a gun thats only be fired by the factory. Not powder sludge but some sort of thick, dried, black grease. I cleaned it out, cleaned out the slide completely and relubed it.

Totally different trigger feel. Back to light and smooth. Lube of choice was very light coating of CLP on the striker, except its cocking nose, which I dabbed a bit of my sticky grease on.

I'm beginning to think I'll never make it to the range.... jeeze. One night this week for sure, I'm beginning to really chomp at the bit to shoot this puppy.

Was supposed to go to Okeechobee today - but it didn't quite turn out due to honeydo's

u did the right thing by giving it a good cleaning and lubing. from now on use that clean out hole on the bottom of the slide and u should never had to take the slide down again.

If I were you, I would degrease the striker and striker channel. Lube in that area can promote the buildup of burnt powder & debris, and potentially limit the striker's travel.

I really like my K9 Elite and PM9. However, the various tuneups remind me of my days dealing with 1960 British sports cars.

Just the nose gets grease. Just a dab, that is probably the 3rd highest stress point on the pistol, with the upper and lower barrel locking parts being #1 and #2. The spot the disconnector rides on the slide is next... etc.

So far so good on crap building up there - but I'll keep your words of wisdom and warning in mind at cleaning time.

Its hard for me as I'm an oiler. I want to put oil on everything. I do indeed leave that area dry but it isn't easy for me.

I too took mine apart completely prior to any shooting and mine was clean as could be with a very fine coating of oil over the striker, and ejector chain.

Haven't been inside since as I use the clean out hole so Jocko don't get ticked at me. I'm replacing a striker spring soon and I'm kind of anxious to see what it looks like in there. I'm thinking it's gonna be clean.

Not only British but Italian sports cars as well on the tune ups! I got so good that I could jump out of the car, have the distributer out, points cleaned, re-gapped, back in and running better in less than 5 minutes!

Hang in there Bawanna, be back in Houston on Saturday evening and will mail the spring Sunday. Let us know what the actual difference in the pull weight is. (Course I'll have my spring in Saturday night, LOL.)

Reminds me I gotta get the trigger gauge brought back. I got time. No rush MW, you'll be having jet lag and getting over that funny water down there and lots of stuff to do including linking up with Willie so when ever you get round to it.
Wish I lived in Texas we could link up and have a threesome. That would be a kick.

My CW45 was surprisingly clean when I took it apart for the initial prep and lube. It had a LOT of lubricant on it, I suppose for those that take them out and shoot em right off the bat without having a look inside. I'm loving the trigger on it while dry firing. Smooth as silk.
Walmart didn't have any Federal Personal Defense, so guess I'll try these Winchester PDX1 Supreme Elite. Winchester says the FBI chose it for their service round, so I imagine it must be pretty decent.

Tom - I've never seen any defense rounds at the Walmarts near me.

Mr. B - Talk about the water, just about didn't make it to the throne about an hour ago. Could have been bad, real bad. No problem on the jet lag as they are now on the same time zone as Houston. I promise it'll be in the mail and you'll have it next week. There is some talk right now about cutting this part of the job short, so if that happens, you may even receive it on Monday.

MW - The Walmarts here in Kansas usually have a couple or more selections of HP ammo, and quite a bit of FMJ practice ammo. I thought they carried Federal Personal Defense, but it looks like they only carry Federal FMJ. They usually have quite a few boxes of the WWB 100 FMJ round value packs in 9mm, .40, and .45. Sometimes they have .380 Remington/UMC value packs of 100, in either FMJ or HP. The self defense cartridges for .45 were either the Winchester PDX1's or they had place for Remington/UMC 100 round HP but didn't have any in stock today. I think it was around $40-$50. Probably would have grabbed the PDX1's anyway. You get what you pay for. I don't know if those 100 round value packs of UMC are a Walmart only thing or not, but haven't seen them on any of the ammo sites I've looked at. Many of the Walmarts in rural areas still carry shotguns and rifles, I just noticed today that "my" Walmart carried guns. It's kind of in between suburbs and a rural town. I'm not sure if the ones in Wichita carry guns or not, they used too a few years ago, but they do have ammo. It's nice to have at least the Winchester PDX1's available, so I don't have to go down to Gander Mountain and get victimized. If those PDX1's prove accurate and reliable in my CW45 I'll probably use those for my carry ammo, so I have convenient access to more boxes of it. I kind of want to stick with one type of SD ammo once I find one that works well, just to be consistent. They claim 920 FPS and 432 pounds of energy at the muzzle. 25 yard numbers are 900/414, 50 yard is 882/397. That's probably from a 5" in barrel, so I can expect a little less velocity and energy, but shouldn't make a huge difference.

Tom - the UMC stuff I've seen in various stores, Walmart, Gander Mountain, a few of my local gun stores, etc. The last 250 round value pack I bought was over in Houma, LA. during the "great ammo shortage". Have only seen the HPs at a few places. Since I'm now reloading for the 9mm, don't really look at what's available at my local Walmarts (except to make sure that I'm still saving some money reloading).

With few exceptions, the numbers that are listed for performance are generally for a "test barrel". Most of the test barrels are pretty long.

Back in the days when dash mounted oil pressure gages really had oil running to them...

Not sure if anyone remembers this joke.

"Do you know why the British can't build a good computer?"

Answer - They can't figure out a way to get it to leak oil.
