Might be a mea culpa if I missed it while searching for similar issues, but I was cleaning today and just noticed this. I don't remember ever seeing this before, but who knows. It is a little tougher to see in the pics, but the plastic "molding" per se doesn't completely cover all the metal that is part of the rails. It is completely encased on the right side looking from rear to front sights, but exposed in a few areas on the left, and alot so near the end of the barrel. There is a section a little further back in the second photo that you can of see it missing as well about 2-3 mm chip.
Is this normal?
Thanks!

I wouldn't call it normal but I don't see it as catastrophic either. Viewing that blow up thread awhile back the steel rails are actually one piece, all sealed up in that polymer, so even though a few spots are missing it's still one unit and should function perfectly.
I would send those pictures to Kahr and see what they say about it. I would think it would be easy to repair but probably should be them doing it, not yourself. If it was mine I'd probably fill the voids with acraglas or something just for the cosmetics but I'd let Kahr make the decision on if they need to see it.
Until then I'd have no reservations shooting it.
I'd call Kahr out on that one - thats just sloppy QC

bawanna is right. It won't cause any issues, but that being said, it was poor quality contol on the part of kahr to. Send the photos to kahr attn: eoin or jay and get their feed back. If they say send it back, then u ask them to send a prepaid pickup on the gun to. u should not be out any money for their fokk up. What u need to think about is this: If the gun is running perfect now, do u want to chance getting a new lower frame and maybe having issues? next a new frame will require new serial numbers which will then have to be sent to a registered ffl dealer who will have to reregister it as a new gun. This will probalby cost u a few bucks that kahr will not take care of either. If u bought the gun from a local dealer then he can send it back and he should do a reregister job for you no charge also. Not sure what I would do in ur shoes. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, goes a long way with me. It is cosmetic and in a area that only you the owner will ever see. It will cause no issues. The one peace metal plate is inbedded solidily and where ur areas are showing through was more of a cosmetic cover up than strength build up area.
See what kahrs tells u then go from there..
