View Full Version : WWB OK For PM9 Break-in?

Hope to later this week put a second hundred rounds through my new PM9. For 9mm factory ammo I've got WWB 115 grain FMJ and RWS 124 grain FMJ. I'm wondering if the PM9 tends to have problems cycling WWB? Reason I ask is that I know certain other guns, the PF9 for example, will at times have issues with WWB more so than other inexpensive break-in ammo like Remington UMC and American Eagle. Should I shoot the WWB for save it for some other usage?
Thanks,
Bill K.

I'm no authority on 9mm but lots of guys here use the WWB. I'd shoot it. Heck you gotta know if it works anyhow. I'd be truely suprised if it didn't work just fine and dandy.

Probalby shot 30,000 rounds of wwb out of my 2 kahrs great ammoo. Wal mart has or had the best price. I bought it by the 1000 rounds as my wife gets a 10% employee discount. It is range fodder for my guns and it goes bang every time, it is clean ammo, it is american made and don't get raped in buying it at Gander mt either..

I typically use WWB for range fodder, usually don't have a problem with it, though the few "malf's" I had with my PM45 during it's first time out were with it...
This was within in the first 200rds, so it won't stop me from using it again, and I've had issues with various ammo in different firearms over the years, including Remington (green box*), Blazer Aluminum*, American Eagle and a couple of Steel cased brands (can't remember which ones though)
edit to add: Should'a mentioned MrsFlyrs PM9 has (so far) eaten everything it's been fed without issue.
We'll begin testing various SD ammo very soon.
*in this case, had 1 gun each that would never feed either of these.
Back in the mid 80's, the FIRST WWB ammo was literally military .45acp rejects! They were headstamped W-W and 79 or 80 or 81... and the year was about 85ish. The lot that I curry-combed boiled down to the primer crimp being off center. Thats as bad as we could find. Shortly thereafter, the consumer request for inexpensive ammo got them to release what seemed like first run military contract stuff, at good prices. Back then, you could only get military cartridges - 38sp, 357m, 9mm, and 45acp - that was it. You could get 223/5.56 and 308/7.62 as well, but no 30-06 or anything else for that matter.
Then... the started offering .223/5.56 with alternate tips, and pretty much after that the floodgate opened at WWB became the bargain basement ammo that it is today.
After all that - hell yes, I use it! And if my pistols function on it (dirty and slightly under powered that it is) they're gonna function on just about anything else I'm able to stuff in the chamber.

My PM9 eats WWB for breakfast! So far, I've tried Speer Lawman, WWB, Federal Champion, and Fiocchi...all 115gr. It had some hiccups with Speer Lawman but that was in the first 50 rounds through the gun.

I certainly hope so. Any gun with a stock MSRP of $786 dollars outta eat just about anything, especially standard Winchester ammunition. I'll be feeding mine a good barrage of different ammo when I get it later this week. I'll be sure to post my range report and plenty of PM9 porn along with it.
Good luck.

Sadly, that isn't always the case and all makes/price ranges of guns (including high dollar customs) can be ammo finicky.

I verified function on my PM9 by firing 1000 rounds of WWB, then various defensive rounds. No issues whatsoever.

Hi,
Would you recommend more than a 200 round break-in even if the 200 rounds were without issue? How about SD ammo, how many without issue before you're ready to carry?
Thanks,
Bill K.
Bill K,
I would be inclined to think that 200 rounds should be adequate for initial breakin. Now as for the second half of your question regarding your personal carry self defensive ammo, I would shoot several boxes and do a gut check...if you feel comfortable I would say go with it if not and shooting a few more boxes makes you feel totally confident do it. You have to have not only complete confidence in yourself but in your weapon and its associated carry ammo.
Keep your weapon clean and oiled. A well maintained pistol and ammo along with your confidence, formiarity with your weapon, and good practical training will serve you well.

I have a stockpile of 12,000 rounds of WWB 9mm in my closet. That's enough to break in 60 new Kahr's. Time to go shopping. Point being it works well. And that I like to shoot stuff. A lot.

I`ve shot more types of ammunition through my PM9 than I can remember and I have yet to have any type of problem. At all.Zero,zilch,nada.As long as you take care of that PM9,it will take care of you. There probably is some type of ammo that it won`t like but I believe as long as you use good, brand name cartridges you won`t have any problems.

Today I fired the 100 rounds of WWB. Encountered no issues related to the use of WWB. On cleaning the gun it seems that the WWB was maybe a tad more dirty than the Remington UMC I shot last week but not 100% sure.
