Jocko, Let me help you with a poll feature on this, see if it meets your approval and we'll edit this as needed.

Jocko,

Wouldn't you have to eliminate from your survey those who found their way to Kahrtalk because of issues with their P380?

Bill K.

Define perfect out of the box for me please. Mine had a few ftf's, 1 light strike and a few slide lock issues, but the more I put through it the better has gotten. I voted perfect out of the box only because I do not feel like it has to take a vacation. I'm loving mine at 500 rounds. Haven't tested SD ammo yet.

I guess I am asking for the way you now feel about your gun. A few FTF's mean nothing ijhn this survey,if u feel it is now perfect.. I don't want to say break ih rounds don't count for they do, but I guess I am saying that durinbg the break inb time a few of this and that is OK but now how do you feel about it..

I can't vote in this poll in it's current state, but if I were to vote my vote would be "I don't own a P380 and am hesitant to buy one after hearing of all of the problems as of late."

guess that is one reason why I am trying this poll out. to see if we have as many issues as we seem to think there are. I don't know myself that answer:israel:.

I think you somehow figured out how to create a poll and your just showing off.

I read up to see how to do it myself but now I gotta think of something I want to know the answer too so I can dazzle myself and create a poll maybe.

I have a P380 and it has been perfect out of the box: yes

I have a P380 and it has been back to Kahr: no

I've only had a few hiccups here and there like failures to lock slide back and failures to return fully to battery. I blame the failure to lock back on my thumb..the P380 is tiny! It's my daily pocket carry companion. It looks like a thick wallet when carried in my front pocket in a Desantis Superfly holster. I haven't had a problem at all with fitting it in my jeans or work pants pockets. I've fed it Corbon DPX and Hornady Critical Defense rounds and didn't have any issues. I guess I'm out of the group of people that has never had any major problems with a P380. I've added a CT Lasergaurd for added enjoyment :D

nice report Mits***** there are lots of good working P380 out there, were hearing mostly from the ones that don't work, which is quite natural to see. U outta like that little gun with the ct laser on it..

Thanks jocko. I do love the CT laser and my P380. I have one on both of my Kahrs(P380 and PM40). It really helps with training(trigger pull) and is easier to get back on target than using the iron sights during rapid fire. Hopefully I'll never have to use it in a defense situation but we all hope the same(I think...haha).

From my earlier posts everyone knows mine is one of the bad ones. I got it strictly as a backup piece and I'm anxious to see what it looks like on the return. My Kahr K9 is still perfect and the round count is piling up. That is what I am accustomed to and I will continue to hold Kahrs to the quality level of my SIGs, S&Ws and Rugers. Maybe my expectations are too high but a self defense gun should be perfect - completely perfect. With my other brands I have only had one hiccup in the last 9 years (and I shoot a lot!) That is what I expect from Kahr. I don't think an occasional FTF/FTE/LPS comes close to perfect. As I said above, My K9 is hanging in there and my last two PM9s functioned perfectly so I still have hopes for the P380. I sorta like the looks of the PM45 but will not even consider one until the saga of the P380 is over.

So at what point do I get to say no about perfect out of the box. I would not say my P380 was "perfect out of the box" nor do I have any plan to ship it back at this point. I needed to follow all of the prep(except I probably only cycled the slide 50-80 times prior to shooting). I have 300+ rounds down range and have experienced more than a few FTF and light strikes(these have gotten fewer lately), and a couple stove pipes. I haven't tested a bunch of brands, and realize much of it is probably due to force feeding hundreds of S&B rounds. I would rather shoot a lot of an inferior round than a lesser amount of a superior yet more expensive round(at the time, $13 when the next cheapest, available round was $18). I figure if it will digest these rounds relatively well, it will function flawlessly with higher quality ammo. I've shot 2 boxes(50 rounds) of Hornady CD with no failures and 70+ rounds of Winchester Ranger which didn't like to load the first round from a full(6rnd) mag but otherwise functioned flawlessly. So my practice ammo continues to be S&B (helps me practice dealing with unexpected failures). And my carry ammo is an alternating of CD and Ranger in the mags with no mag topped with a Ranger. Yes, I love this firearm and carry it often, confident that if I need it, it will perform.

Mine's been fine (once I figured out that I couldn't put my thumb on the slide stop). About 400 rounds so far of various brands and still good.

My P380 has never failed in any way. I have a few hundred through it. It is very accurate too.

I have one... waited 11 months to get it (N/S) and sent it back the next day unfired... front N/S D.O.A. A month or two later gave up trying to stop random slide lock backs and returned it again. It's fine now... I love it... wouldn't leave home without it... except on the rare occasions I carry one of its larger siblings.

Did Kahr indicate what they had done to the pistol to make that stop? Mine is there as we speak, and it might be interesting to compare Kahr responses for us with the less than perfect P380s.

I've had two -

First one would not go into battery reliably - returned after 400 rounds (kept waiting for it to "break in") (October 2010)

They called and said it was fixed but not a CA Gun - so it had to go back to the distributor. I think they did fix it - but they put it back on the cracked frame to return so I'll never know for sure. There was an issue with CA approval and some P380s were shipped to CA for 3 weeks - I was lucky enough to get one (ha) - and it was not working well @ constant 25 % failure rate. Assume cracked frame but don't really know why.

After a while (March 2011) I got the replacement which is the CA model P380. Has a mag disconnect and a little chamber loaded indicator. This one malfunctioned by stovepiping at 20% and then by 210 rounds it was down to 12% and I sent it back because I felt that there was a problem beyond break in. They really have some sort of problem with these - I hope they can fix it - They have always been good on the phone at the service dept.

It has been very expensive so far:

1st gun
$649 cost
$ 60.03 Tax
$25 documents
$136 test ammo at $ .34 / round
$ 61 Send back UPS 1 day saver
$ 24 half the cost of 3 range sessions (had another pistol so half cost)

$955.03 Cost for first p380

Second p380:
$71.40 210 rounds at $.34 / round
$61 Send back UPS 1 day saver
$16 (half the cost of 2 range sessions (had another pistol so half cost)

$148.4 Additional cost so far for second pistol

$1103.43 Cost to date and the second pistol is still at the factory. I realize that my problem would have been fixed by $955 and the first gun going to CA is not Kahrs fault. But it still didn't work. If my wife finds out I spent $1103.43 on a little pocket gun and it still doesn't work - infact I don't even have it - I'm gonna be in big trouble! Ha Ha

I hope this is the last of the problems - I notice from the survey responses that a little less than half of the owners have had to send them back, exactly half if both of mine are counted - I wonder what has gone wrong?

tominca.l nice report. something thatmaybe kahr should see to, so they can see that people are putting out alot of unnecessary dollars to get a gun reliable that is not reliable and willnot be reliable unless sent back.

so far IMO this survey shows what I thought it would. A very high percentage of not happy camnpers.
