Guys, I've never ordered a pistol from a supplier like Bud's and had it shipped to a local shop. Can someone tell me how the sales tax is handled in these cases. I live in Texas and specifically wonder if I would have to pay Texas sales taxes. Help anybody?
Thanks,

I bought one from Bud's and paid no tax, just a $20 fee from local dealer for transfer. You pay Bud's direct for purchase and they ship to your dealer.

although "technically" you are supposed to pay state sales tax, verey few people even consider it on internet or "out of state" purchases. You WILL be required to pay sales tax on either the purchase price or estimated value if you bring things like motor vehicles into the state from across the borders (you know, the borders of Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico). Try to register them for license tags and you will find out real quick. Also, business purchases that "go on the record" best have the sales tax value submitted to the state comptroller's office. The average person, doing mundane shopping via internet normally wouldn't even think about how, if required, to pay sales tax.
I wouldn't worry about it:D

Wow, making a purchase from Bud's sounds great. Sales taxes on $8-900 are significant. Thanks guys.

oh...and just to make it clear... I am NOT recommending tax evasion or tax fraud, just stating the facts as I "understand" them.

What gun are you looking at?
I ordered a gun from Bud's two Fridays ago. They billed my card that day and put it in "processing" status. It stayed in that status until last Friday when it changed to "shipping" status. It shipped Tuesday and changed to "shipped" status. I am expecting to get it tomorrow after a $15 transfer. It's not fast. I now think I should have gone to Impact which is here in Utah and asked if they would match Bud's price. Oh well.

Christ said "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar`s" but He might have had a change of heart if He had seen how the states and federal government waste money.Don`t worry about it.Whatchathinkinboutbuyin ?

I'm not sure I will buy but I've been ogling the STI Shadow. It's a 1911 format pistol. Over the years I've had a Government model, Commander, both Colts and a Star PD. At present I don't have a 1911. Although I haven't talked to my wife about buying another gun, I'm sure she'd want me to be happy.

willieboy.... nevermind my suggestions... they were specifically concerning "the real" Texas.... I just re-read that your location is NOT actually in Texas. Best check your own state law for yourself. I was thinking if you were actually in South Texas, why do a deal for an STI via internet anyway...then noticed the "NJ" in your loaction.

Actually, I am in Texas, but I was conceived at Fort Dix in NJ.

You should check with your lgs to see if they collect state taxes on internet purchases. My local shop does, but my range buddy says he knew an individual ffl holder that did not.

In Washington the law says that Wa Sales tax needs to be collected on out of state purchases. My FFL heard of another dealer getting audited and supposedly got in trouble for not collecting the tax. So now he's adamant that he collect the tax. He told me a few days ago (been awhile since I used him) that many dealers are now not accepting out of state transfers since they don't want to deal with the tax hassle.
I told him he is a firearms dealer, not a tax collector for the governor. He's the only dealer I've encountered who does collect tax. The guy I use now says he figures it's my responsiblilty to pay the taxes with my income tax and not his job.
I think most states have similar rules but really no good way of enforcing them. I try to buy local as we all mostly do but if theres a real deal that can't be matched I'm going for it.
My contact with my old tax collecting FFL was for the purchase of a shotgun for a retiring officer. I was deeply dissapointed when his first comment was make sure there was an invoice so he could figure the taxes.
I now saw in the paper yesterday Washington wants to tax people who drive electric cars 100 bucks a year to pay for roads they drive on. Tax, Tax, Tax. Probably still way cheaper than gas but that's a whole nuther ponzy scheme in itself.
I better check, they might want some loot for my electic wheelchair. Sidewalks don't cha know?

Christine just can't keep her hand out of our pockets.
(for those who don't live here, she's the governator of Wa, ...and it's anything but fun, having her hand there)

AMEN. I voted for Dino 3 times, he lost the first time after 3 recounts.
Just can't seem to beat the gruesome threesome of girls we have around here. I like to give everyone a fair chance but I also believe in brutal honesty.
Ok, OK, I hate me all ok. Murray, Cantwell, and Jigwire, pack your bags......
Enough on the local news, now back to our regularly programmed Kahrtalk mid day ramblings and tribulations.
Back to you Jim.

amish here in Indiana have to pay a vehicle $25 with those slow moving signs on them their horse buggies. I am sure a wheel chair (motorized) tax has not be brought up yet in ur state but thanks for letting me know that, for I have now sent to your state senators and house people to consider taxing motorized wheel chairs. I advised them they also need to mandate that you have a slow moving vehicle sign on the back of your chair also. Hoefully my friend I know ur thinking ol jocko is just trying to help.
I just seen on TV where we gave libia this year (first 3 months 900K) in aid for their "security" and now we are bombing the piss out of them.
Tell me please that this country is not fokked up big time..

I may be slow but I can run circles around them amish horse and buggy's. We had Menonites in Missouri, probably a slightly different flavor of Amish I reckon. Knew quite a few of them. Good folks and all. A little different. Won't own a car but happy to ride in yours. Won't use a tractor but got no problem with you using yours in their field.
Lot of people didn't care for em much but I got along fine with em.
Guess I'm different too.
Thanks for your help with my state bureaucrats, they sure need the help.

A Baptist minister was walking through the fellowship hall one afternoon when he heard a commotion behind some folding chairs. When he went to investigate he found a teenage boy and girl from the youth program looking guiltily up at him."What are you two doing back there?",he asked. The boy mumbled "We were having sex Reverend." The preacher then replied "Oh,thank goodness. For a moment I thought you were dancing."

I don't think I've ever gotten less than 500 back, usually alot more.:31:
Will have to figure this out.
